Chapter 5 The Unfaithful Man

The man's resolute and disgusted gaze chilled Shu Hui to the bone.

Zhou Jian'an wasn't like this before he went to university. Back then, she worked in the fields to support him while he prepared for the exam. He understood her hardship and said that if he passed the exam, he would take her and their child to Beijing to live a good life after he returned from his studies.

They say her good fortune is yet to come.

Who would have thought that in just four short years, the man's heart would change so drastically. His once gentle eyes were now filled with disgust and impatience, as if even looking at him was an inconvenience.

She became like a mud splatter on his new leather shoes, causing him constant frustration.

But what exactly did she do wrong?

She was not as presentable as that woman, not as beautiful, and not as good at pleasing men, but Zhou Jian'an forgot what made her become like this.

He promised her a good life when they got married, and said he would come back to take her to the city to enjoy a better life when he left home.

She waited and waited, until wrinkles appeared at the corners of her eyes, until her skin lost its luster, until the heavy labor bent her straight back, but all she got in return were the heartless man's resolute words.

Tears blurred her vision, but Shu Hui gritted her teeth, refusing to let Zhou Jian'an and that woman see her in such a disheveled state.

Zhou Jian'an glanced at his watch, his face full of impatience:

"Why haven't you signed yet? Let me tell you the truth, Shu Hui, we're too different. We're not on the same path anymore. Dragging this out won't do either of us any good. Hurry up and sign and put your fingerprints on it. From now on, we'll go our separate ways and part ways amicably!"

Shu Hui knew there was no turning back, and she didn't want to make herself look too pathetic, or lose even more completely in front of that woman.

Her daughter was right; life is something you have to live, and she had to learn to be strong for her daughter's sake.

Shu Hui wiped away her tears and was about to sign the divorce agreement when a slender, fair hand snatched it away.

Chu Yu faced the sunlight, staring at the agreement written by the original owner's biological father, reading it word by word, and inexplicably wanted to laugh.

This week, Jian'an really shameless. He completely absolved himself of any responsibility in the agreement, and even subtly blamed Shu Hui for not being good enough for him, a college student, saying that he and Shu Hui had nothing in common!

Bah! Zhou Jian'an hasn't been home for five years, and he hasn't even spoken a single word to Shu Hui directly. How could they possibly have anything in common?

Isn't it just that once you've used them and feel they have no more value, you want to throw them away like trash?

He wants a divorce but doesn't want to bear the bad reputation. Even at this point, he's still pushing the blame onto Shu Hui. Isn't it because he thinks Shu Hui is honest and easy to bully?

Perhaps it was because this scene was too familiar that Chu Yu empathized with the original owner of the body.

When Chu Yu's mother divorced, she was too young to confront her father. Throughout her life, she pushed herself to improve, striving to become better, all to prove him wrong.

The daughter you look down on, although she is a girl, can be more outstanding than anyone else!

Chu Yu held the agreement and looked at Zhou Jian'an without any politeness:

"Dad, I've already told Grandma the conditions, and I'm sure she's relayed them to you. Seven hundred yuan in cash, to be split equally among the children! Only if these two conditions are met will Mom sign the papers."

The company's CEO, having gone through numerous negotiations in his previous life, naturally possessed a demeanor that Zhou Jian'an could not withstand.

Zhou Jian'an was surprised that his once timid daughter had become so difficult to deal with after only a few years. He said in a harsh voice:

"What's it to you!"

Chu Yu wasn't angry; getting angry wouldn't solve anything.

"Dad, whether this involves me or not is not for you to decide. Otherwise, I'll have your superiors at work judge this matter and see how they'll settle the score for you abandoning your wife and children and getting involved with Dai Qinxue before your divorce! Let's see if they'll want someone of questionable character!"

Chu Yu showed no mercy whatsoever.

The surrounding villagers were talking about it, all criticizing Zhou Jian'an behind his back.

See? What did they say? All unfaithful men are the same!

He climbed the social ladder by sucking his wife's blood, and after achieving success, he developed a taste for pretty young girls.

Zhou Jian'an panicked as soon as she mentioned Dai Qinxue.

His eyes darted away, never expecting to be outmaneuvered by his seemingly insignificant daughter. He had finally secured a decent job and was on the verge of promotion; if something went wrong now, it would be a huge loss!

Besides, these days, cheating is a serious crime.

But he had agreed with Qin Xue not to take care of the child. Dai Qin Xue's expenses were very high, and Xu Yiyi also loved to spend money on clothes. His income was already barely enough to support them.

With two more children, it would be impossible to support them.

He has no choice but to give up all his children, but if he doesn't, he can't sign the divorce papers.

"Okay! I'll take seven hundred yuan!"

Zhou Jian'an gritted his teeth, taking a step back to advance. Knowing that his eldest daughter was difficult to deal with, he spoke softly to Shu Hui:

“I’ll give you all the money, but how can you, as a mother, bear to separate your children? How can you abandon them? You keep saying you love your children, is this what you call maternal love? Shu Hui, how can you be so heartless!”

Chu Yu didn't know where Zhou Jian'an got the nerve to question Shu Hui. He had never taken care of a child before, so wasn't he ashamed to ask such a question?

Shu Hui's eyes reddened as he scolded her, "Of course I love the child!"

Zhou Jian'an breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. You've always been the one taking care of the children. Separating them won't be good for their development. Besides, you should be understanding. Qin Xue has a daughter. If I take two more children, how will I live? You can take the children with you, and I'll give you ten yuan a month for living expenses. How about that?"

Shu Hui wavered; she really couldn't bear to part with her children, not one of them.

Every child is a piece of her flesh!

Zhou Jian'an has never raised a child before, so he won't be genuinely good to the child, especially with Dai Qinxue as the stepmother.
