Chapter 542 Why is life so difficult?

When Mao Xia got home, she lay on her bed and burst into tears. Xiao Yu exchanged a glance with her roommate and came over to ask, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Mao Xia told Xiao Yu what had happened, and Xiao Yu smiled and said, "So what Sister Hua said is right. Rather than doing laundry and cooking for a man, being his free nanny, sleeping with him for free, and still having to earn money to support the family and pay off the mortgage with him, it's better to sleep with countless men. That way, at least the money you earn is your own."

Mao Xia couldn't stand working at a convenience store, or serving dishes at a restaurant, but she encountered a lewd old man at a hair salon, and a landlord with ill intentions when looking for a place to live.

Mao Xia didn't know why her luck was always so bad. She just wanted to live an ordinary life and reform herself, but life didn't give her a chance and pushed her to the brink of despair.

"Xiaoyu, don't you want to live a normal life?"

Xiaoyu smiled, picked up a bottle of face cream, and applied it to her face. "A normal person? I'm uneducated. If I wanted to live a normal life, I'd have to work several jobs, braving wind and rain. How could I afford such high-end luxuries? My relatives all look down on me, thinking I could never do well in Hong Kong. But I'm making money here, sending it back home to my mom so she can build a house for my brother and help him get married. Maoxia, do you know? Even though my family knows I can't make a lot of money in Hong Kong, that to earn this much, I must have to sell some things, they don't care at all. They only care if I send money home on time, if I can give my brother a new house, and if I can get a dowry to get married."

Mao Xia had no siblings. No, she originally did, but she personally gave that child an ending. She took the child to the train station, where there were many human traffickers among the crowds. She watched the little boy being taken away by the traffickers, but remained unmoved.

If Mao Xia hadn't dealt with that little boy, she might have suffered the same pain as Xiao Yu.

"Then aren't you going home?"

“Why would I go home? The villagers have seen me sending a lot of money home and there are already rumors that I’m being kept by a rich man in the port city and that I’m selling my body. My mother actually thinks I’m shameful, but the money I send home every month is very appealing, so she tells me not to go home, but at the same time she makes me send money on time.”

Life is really realistic, isn't it?

Everyone in this line of work has their own hardships.

Xiaoyu didn't know what had happened to Maoxia, but it was probably one of those things: her family treated her badly, her husband treated her badly, she encountered problems at school, and rumors were spread about her.

That's all there is to it.

"So what do you plan to do in the future?" Mao Xia asked.

Xiaoyu shook her head. She didn't know either. She was getting old and would be thirty in a few years. She had spent some of the money she had earned over the years and sent the rest back home. She didn't know if her family would take her in if she couldn't earn money in the future.

She had no idea where the future lay.

"I might marry an honest man in the future, the kind of man who's poor and can't find a wife, and neither of us will look down on the other!" Xiaoyu said self-deprecatingly, blowing out her eyelids. Mao Xia didn't know what to say for a moment. She never thought she would fall to this point, nor did she expect to feel sorry for Xiaoyu. Maybe she just wouldn't admit it, but she and Xiaoyu were actually the same kind of people.

"What about you? What happened to you?" Xiaoyu asked.

Mao Xia then told Xiao Yu about how her uncle had hired men to act and swindled all her money.

Xiaoyu was stunned, then jumped up, "Are you out of your mind?! 37 million! You actually gave it all to a man! What kind of pig brain do you have? No wonder you got scammed by a man!"

Mao Xia was filled with regret. She had never been to society, had no sense of self-protection, and was not very knowledgeable. She was even less shrewd than Xiao Yu.

She had no idea that someone could set up such a huge scheme to defraud another person. At that time, Zhou Jian'an had investigated Xiang Yanlong's family background and said that the Xiang family's business was worth hundreds of billions. How could she know that Zhou Jian'an could deceive her, or that Xiang Yanlong was a fake tycoon?

Little did she know that behind the luxury car rides, yacht birthday parties, and lavish candlelight dinners lay a meticulously planned scheme.

Mao Xia was unaware that she had been deceived, and only then did she realize how foolish and ridiculous she had been.

She's not even as good as Xiaoyu, who's a prostitute. At least Xiaoyu has a clear head, but what about her?

She only squandered Zhou Fangchun's money, making her mother's hard work go to waste and turning her mother's efforts into a joke. Mao Xia has let Zhou Fangchun down.

"Alright, stop crying. Focus on making money and earning it back as soon as possible. If possible, take revenge on your uncle. You're still young, anything is possible."

Mao Xia had tried to comfort herself in this way, but she knew that Zhou Jian'an wouldn't fall for it. Even if Mao Xia used the same tricks to seduce Zhou Jian'an, he wouldn't be able to spend so much money on a woman. No one in the world was more shrewd than Zhou Jian'an.

No one is more foolish than Mao Xia.

"That man named Xiang Yanlong, has he not shown up at all?"

Mao Xia shook her head. "A liar like that, how could he possibly reappear? Xiaoyu, I really don't know what to do. Why is life so hard?"

If she could, Mao Xia would rather none of this had happened. She would still be studying at a vocational college in China. Although the school wasn't good, Zhou Fangchun could spend some money and use Mao Guangyu's old connections to find her a stable job.

After Mao Xia gets a job, she can find a good man to marry and live a stable life.

Before they knew it, the loan for the Nanhai Economic Development Zone was disbursed. Chu Yu was right; these days, local banks lack clients. Hua Chu Future was a major developer with a reputation in Shenzhen, so not only did the leaders support them, but the banks also gave them their full support.
