The uncle walked downstairs to Susen. Susen's building was only half-built. Chu Yu had someone decorate this part first to recruit employees. He couldn't let the employees see the company ruins when they came for an interview, could he?
This company is said to be the largest car company in terms of investment in mainland China.
Unfortunately, the company had its own hiring requirements and declined his interview request.
The man took a piece of flatbread out of his bag, took a bite, and out of the corner of his eye felt someone staring at him. He turned his head and saw an exceptionally beautiful girl.
The middle-aged man paused for a moment, feeling that Chu Yu looked familiar. Mainly, the girl was so beautiful that once seen her, it was hard to forget her. He looked her over and couldn't help but ask, "Miss, do we know each other?"
Chu Yu smiled and said, "Have you been to Yorkham? Do you remember? You ordered a set meal that included a plush toy, which we specially made for our first customer!"
The middle-aged man was taken aback, then exclaimed in surprise, "Yorkham in Beijing? That fast-food chain? I heard they're opening a branch in Shenzhen this year! You are...?"
“I am the daughter of the owner of the Yorkham restaurant, and my surname is Zhou.”
The uncle remembered and smiled so much that his wrinkles appeared. "The little girl is pretty, I do remember her! Your dolls are very cute and of good quality. I took the doll home for my daughter, and she loves it. She hugs it to bed every night."
Chu Yu smiled warmly, "That would be our honor."
The uncle was surprised that Chu Yu still remembered him. He found it strange, as he was just an ordinary guest in Yorkham. Even if he was the first guest, it was not surprising that Chu Yu would remember him so many years later.
Chu Yu explained, “We put up a photo of our first guest in Yorkham on the wall and printed many copies to keep. So, I often see your photo on the wall. To be honest, I’m really sorry for using your image without your permission.”
The uncle waved his hand dismissively, not caring about those things.
Actually, Chu Yu remembered him for another reason. That day, the uncle was holding many job postings from newspapers, writing and drawing on them, and constantly writing down phone numbers and notes in his notebook. When Chu Yu delivered the food, he glanced at the uncle and realized that he seemed to be trying to sell something.
The uncle seemed a little disappointed. Chu Yu saw many adult shadows in him and felt inexplicably bittersweet.
Plus, I often saw photos of the man, so I recognized him at a glance.
"What brings you to Susen?" Chu Yu asked.
The middle-aged man scratched his head sheepishly. "To be honest, I'm here to find a job, but unfortunately, although I have experience, I don't have enough education. They said that to hire employees in the battery department, you need a degree in chemistry."
Chu Yu's company was newly established, and most of the recruitment standards were set by the human resources department.
Furthermore, a company must have recruitment standards; otherwise, anyone could easily put their relatives in the company.
These standards, in a sense, imply relative fairness.
What do you do for a living?
The man was a little embarrassed. He used to be an employee of a state-owned enterprise, but he was fired because he was always messing around with the materials for the negative electrode of batteries and often caused explosions in the workplace.
Chu Yu was utterly incredulous when he heard him recount his experiences. "Explosions? You frequently cause explosions?"
The man looked embarrassed. "It wasn't always like that. The first generation of lithium batteries used titanium sulfide as the positive electrode material, which often caused explosions. Later, someone developed lithium cobalt oxide, which made the battery more stable. But what can be used to work with lithium cobalt oxide? To this day, no one has developed a negative electrode material that can work with lithium cobalt oxide. I'm quite curious, so I've always wanted to do experiments to see if I could develop one. But these kinds of experiments are prone to explosions. My colleagues at work all felt it wasn't safe to be around me, and the boss had no choice but to fire me."
Chu Yu could understand those leaders; being around such dangerous individuals could easily cause them anxiety.
But Chu Yu really admired the uncle's spirit.
She found the older man particularly interesting. "So, how did your research go? Was it successful?"
The uncle felt even more ashamed, because he couldn't get into Susen's battery department because he hadn't succeeded and didn't have the necessary qualifications.
When hiring, employers look at resumes. This guy used to work in a state-owned enterprise. Where did he get such a good resume? Everyone else is a returned overseas Chinese or a graduate of a prestigious university. Only this guy works in a factory.
How can you compare them?
After being fired from his state-owned enterprise job, the man contacted his former classmates, hoping to find a suitable job. However, none of them wanted him for various reasons. He went to Beijing for this reason, but after failing to find a job, he returned home.
Chu Yu smiled and asked slowly, "But why do you want to develop batteries? Is it simply because you're interested in this area, or is there another reason?"
The middle-aged man's answer was a bit whimsical: "I hate car exhaust! I want to make car exhaust disappear from this world!"
"ah?"
"Don't you think cars are too dangerous? Cars cause so many traffic accidents every day. Once cars become more common, the accident rate will increase significantly. My daughter was hit by a car and had her leg amputated. I hope cars will disappear, but I know that some things are unstoppable. Cars will not only not disappear, but will become more and more common. So, I changed my strategy. I hope that trolleybuses will become more common soon. Trolleybuses will drive automotive reform and make cars disappear even faster."
Chu Yu never expected that the uncle had such a story behind him.
"How is your daughter now?"
The man sighed and felt a little guilty when he mentioned his daughter. "I haven't had a proper job in the past few years. I've been making a living by odd jobs. I can't provide my daughter with good conditions. She lives in our hometown and is taken care of by her mother."
