Chu Yu's idea was simple: as a viewer, she didn't need any of that nonsense; she preferred to get straight to the point.
In fact, Chu Yu preferred movies from the 1990s. Movies from that period were always fast-paced and had simple, straightforward plots. As time went on, later movies tended to focus on creating atmosphere, but the pacing was poor, which Chu Yu disliked very much.
Chu Yu's words made Zhong Buyi fall into deep thought. As a director, he considered the integrity of the plot, but the audience preferred simpler stories and liked to get straight to the point.
"Okay, I'll delete it. What about the rest?"
The two continued watching. Zhong Buyi's movie was really well made, no less than Hollywood movies. Because it respected the original work and used Hollywood actors, you would never know it was a Chinese movie if you didn't see the director's name.
Chung Buyi has directed many Hong Kong films, which are characterized by their fast pace. The 1990s were the golden age of Hong Kong films, which meant that the directors who made it big were also able to grasp the market. Dinosaur films may seem to be detached from the Hong Kong market, but the pace is consistent.
A movie with good pacing can be a great popcorn movie.
You say you want to be remembered in history? Can't popcorn movies be remembered in history?
Many directors, in pursuit of artistry, make their films overly melancholic and tragic. Fortunately, Zhong Buyi is still young and doesn't have this bad habit.
Chu Yu pointed to the TV screen again, "Here, where the male lead and the adopted daughter from China are arguing."
"You think it's okay to delete it?"
Chu Yu shook her head. "I think it's worth keeping. It highlights the characters' personalities and makes it very reasonable for the adopted daughter to leave in anger. After leaving, the adopted daughter encounters dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures that she can't control. Her thought is to come back and tell her adoptive parents. This kind of family relationship is very compelling."
Zhong Buyi listened to her advice, and Chu Yu finally edited and cut the film down to a runtime of 135 minutes.
"I think this version is perfect. It's not too long, the pace is fast, and with the special effects, audiences can't possibly not buy it!"
