Chapter 89 First Day of School Parents' Meeting

In 1983, there were no titles like "exam god," "exam master," or "academic master," but Jiang Qilue was still a legend in the hearts of parents of senior high school students.

The tradition at German-Chinese schools is that the honors class is not divided into separate classes. Once you enter the honors class, you are automatically assigned to study science. Students who want to go to the humanities class have the opportunity to transfer out midway, but most people do not make that choice.

Jiang Qilue was the undisputed number one in the German High School from the moment he entered high school.

The others were self-aware; no matter how hard they tried, they only aimed for second place and never dared to hope to surpass Jiang Qilue.

The new student who just transferred here got first place in the exam.

Chinese 92, Math 110, English 85, Physics 80, Chemistry 80, Politics 45, Biology 50.

With a total score of 710 in the college entrance examination, last year's cutoff scores were 390 for junior college, 420 for undergraduate, and 450 for top-tier university. Chu Yu, however, scored a whopping 542!

She was 38 points below the Tsinghua and Peking University admission score of 580. However, she only scored 45 out of 100 in politics. If she had scored 30 or 40 points higher in politics and 10 or 8 points higher in Chinese, she would have far exceeded the Tsinghua and Peking University admission line!

Since the resumption of the college entrance examination, no student from Dezhong High School has been admitted to Tsinghua or Peking University. If Dezhong is in this situation, the situation in the subordinate counties and towns is even worse. If a promising student from Dezhong High School suddenly appears in a city with weak education, not to mention Zhang Zhihe, even the principal of Dezhong High School and the director of Deyang Education Bureau can't help but be excited!

On Sunday, the day the results were released, the senior high school group was in an uproar. The principal told Zhang Zhihe to bring the person to Dezhong High School. Zhang Zhihe was pushing his bicycle past Shujia Roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) shop when he was stopped by the hospitable Shu Hui. Only then did he realize that the popular Roujiamo shop at the school gate was actually owned by Chu Yu's family.

After waiting for several days without seeing anyone, Zhang Zhihe wasn't angry. He figured Chu Yu would come back eventually. The question was, did this kid even know how amazing his score was?

Zhang Zhihe stared intently at Chu Yu, waiting for her to give him a response.

Chu Yu didn't really have any surprises.

A score of 45 in Politics was expected. English is her strongest subject, so 85 is not particularly high. Her scores in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology were just passable. She didn't have time to focus on memorizing Chinese. If she had more time, she could have done better.

Mao Guangyu stood to one side, holding his speech, unsure whether to advance or retreat. His daughter had only scored 480, far exceeding the cutoff score for top-tier universities by 30 points. These days, there's a significant difference in scores among university students; some students at the same university scored 580, while others scored only 480.

With Mao Xia's score, getting into a prestigious university is a sure thing. But in front of so many parents, asking a parent of a student who scored 480 to spout a bunch of boastful talk is pointless. The student who scored 542 is right there in front of them.

Mao Guangyu tried to get close to Chu Yu, but Chu Yu avoided him.

"Teacher Zhang, I'd like to discuss something with you."

Zhang Zhihe adjusted his glasses and excitedly followed Chu Yu out, only to be speechless at her few words.

"What did you say? I might have to take leave frequently after enrolling? Zhou, can I ask for the reason?"

“This is my private matter, and I can’t explain it to you in just a few words. Please believe me, my request for leave is not to do anything wrong, nor will it damage the image of the school. I just can’t stay on campus all the time like other students. I probably can’t even do it for half the time. If you and the school can accept it, I will transfer to the school to study temporarily.”

Zhang Zhihe didn't expect her to make such a condition. Faced with such a promising student as Chu Yu, he and his co-teacher were eager to give Chu Yu extra tutoring every day, take her home for tutoring, and wish they could split her into five pieces to use!

Especially the politics teacher, because Chu Yu's politics grades were very poor, all the pressure was on the politics teacher. Last night, the politics teacher specially compiled a thick stack of notes on the key points and difficult points, and reviewed the content from the first year of high school to the third year of high school, just to help her catch up in politics.

Chu Yu, however, did not take his studies seriously at all, which made Zhang Zhihe feel quite heartbroken.

"You went to Wenzhou this time to buy goods, right?"

Chu Yu was slightly taken aback, but did not deny it:

“Teacher Zhang, I don’t mean to neglect my studies. I just prefer a more flexible learning style. I have a heavy family burden and will not give up being self-employed, but that doesn’t mean I will give up my studies. On the contrary, it makes me feel more pressured. I will make use of every spare moment to review my lessons.”

Teacher Zhang couldn't believe that an eighteen-year-old girl could have such self-control.

Going to other places to buy goods and running a small business is exhausting; how can it compare to the ease of getting into university and having a government job? Teacher Zhang is a government employee with conservative ideas. Even though the Education Bureau often delays paying his salary and he is always short of money, he still feels that being a teacher is more stable than running a small business.

He was really afraid that Chu Yu would ruin him, which would not only be her loss, but the loss of the entire Deyang!

This was a very important matter, and Teacher Zhang was unable to make a decision, so she hurriedly went to find the principal.

Twenty minutes later, Teacher Zhang returned in a hurry, and the old principal's meaning was very clear.

Chu Yu is the hope of Deyang. We can't let such a promising talent be held back by life. The school can apply for relief funds and scholarships for her, but this is just a drop in the bucket. Last year, Jiang Qilue achieved the best score in the second year of high school, but the prize was just a pen and two thin math notebooks.

This can't be blamed on the schools. They're short of funds, the education bureau is a cramped department, everyone from top to bottom is stingy, and schools are the poorest places. The principals are willing but unable to do anything about it.

Chu Yu indeed declined tactfully.

Teacher Zhang had no choice but to use the former principal's second method.

Keep her here first, then slowly work her out! Even an iron rod can be ground into a needle, let alone an 18-year-old girl! Since she's not coming to class, you and a few teachers should go to her house and wait outside until she gets her exam results back!
