Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Shu Wanxiu didn't know how she fell asleep. When she woke up the next day, it was already bright outside.

She sat up, supporting her aching back, but did not see Xun Yi in the room.

What happened last night was truly shameful, infuriating, and frightening. With him gone, Shu Wanxiu felt a great sense of relief.

However, after the initial relief came doubt.

Why didn't he wake himself up when he got up?

At this hour, most families in the village should have already eaten breakfast and gone to the fields. If she doesn't get up, who will make breakfast?

After that thought flashed through her mind, she started thinking about Shu Shouyi again.

I wonder if Shouyi has woken up yet. They only arrived at this new place yesterday. If he wakes up and doesn't see me, he might feel uncomfortable.

Thoughts came one after another. Shu Wanxiu rested for a while, enduring the discomfort in her body, and slipped on her shoes to open the door.

The person standing in the courtyard immediately noticed and straightened up.

"Awake?" Xun Yi asked.

His features were relaxed and his gaze gentle. His upright posture was like a straight pine tree as he walked towards her step by step with light steps.

Shu Wanxiu watched him approach, her eyes filled with confusion.

Was Xun Yi's possessiveness last night just her imagination?

She opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to call out "Brother Xun," but the words caught in her throat as a chill ran down her spine.

No, we absolutely cannot call it that anymore.

A man whose body and mind are satisfied will naturally be in a good mood and relaxed. Xun Yi knew he had gone too far this morning, but there is no medicine for regret. He could only resolve to be gentler in the future.

“I’ve prepared breakfast. After Shouyi eats, he’ll go to Aunt Chen’s house to find his playmates.” He quietly took Shu Wanxiu’s right hand. “You wash up first, and then we’ll eat together.”

The sudden physical contact made Shu Wanxiu feel awkward.

Last night's torturous experience was one thing, but also, in broad daylight, Shu Wanxiu had never seen a couple holding hands like that before. This was too embarrassing.

Xun Yi looked calm and led the way quickly. They had already reached the kitchen door, but she still hadn't decided whether to pull her hand away or not.

"Here are the toothbrushes. This one is mine, this one is Shouyi's, and this new one is yours."

There was a cupboard in the kitchen. In one of the small compartments of the cupboard were three bamboo tubes and a toothbrush with a wooden handle and pig bristles. Tooth powder was stored in a small jar a little further inside.

He picked up the toothbrush that belonged to Shu Wanxiu, dipped it in some tooth powder, and held the bamboo tube between two fingers. "This way."

There was a water vat in the kitchen of the Xun family's house, and another water vat in the courtyard.

"I'm used to brushing my teeth under the eaves or by the water vat in the yard."

He had already taught everything to Shu Shouyi once that morning, and when he taught the second person, his expression was not perfunctory, but rather even more meticulous.

He scooped up a bamboo tube of water and gave it to her along with a toothbrush.

Shu Wanxiu had no reason to refuse, so she squatted down in the spot he pointed out, holding the things in both hands.

Like a child keeping company with a playmate, Xun Yi squatted down beside her.

It would be fine if he said or did something, but he just stared intently at me, saying nothing and doing nothing, barely moving except for blinking.

Shu Wanxiu blushed soon after.

Xun Yi did not restrain himself; in fact, he went even further, bringing his head closer to leisurely admire the peach-blossom cheeks and rosy face so close to his own.

Only when Shu Wanxiu's face was flushed and her brows furrowed slightly did she turn her head away and pretend to look at the scenery elsewhere.

Shu Wanxiu used to think Xun Yi was a great person, an exceptionally good person, but she never imagined he had this side to him.

Compared to before, Xun Yi is so vibrant now, so vibrant that sometimes she can't even remember the kindness she once showed him, and just wants to give him a cold look and then angrily turn her head away.

Breakfast was plentiful, with two boiled eggs per person, a pot of meat porridge, and two kinds of pickles to accompany the porridge.

Two eggs per person, six eggs for three people.

This alone left Shu Wanxiu speechless.

She vaguely recalled the time when Shu Shouyi was sick last year, and Xun Yi brought her a meal from her brother-in-law's house, which also included two eggs.

Could it be that... the Xun family has always eaten breakfast like this? How is that worthwhile?

She took the porcelain spoon from Xun Yi and drank two spoonfuls to warm her stomach. Then Xun Yi handed her a peeled egg.

The words were stuck in my heart, causing me great distress.

"Xun...Prime Minister, Your Excellency."

"Were the meals at home always this plentiful before?"

She was unaware of how amusing her cautious demeanor was. Xun Yi forced himself to suppress his urge to tease her and gave a serious answer.

"Of course not."

He picked up another egg and gently cracked its shell on the table. "Today is our first day as husband and wife."

Knowing that this was a difference that only occurred after they got married, Shu Wanxiu felt a sense of relief.

Xun Yi placed the peeled second egg on a clean plate and pushed it in front of her.

Shu Wanxiu felt hungry before going to bed last night. After asking what was on her mind, she enjoyed a comfortable breakfast.

"Sit down for a while, or look around to help your digestion."

Xun Yi kept pace with her eating speed. Seeing her put down her chopsticks and finish the rest of the porridge in a few big gulps, he got up to clear the dishes.

Shu Wanxiu stood up, flattered. "Aren't you busy with the shop today? Leave everything there, I'll tidy it up."

Xun Yi smiled and brushed away her hand that was holding him, "We won't be forging ironware today."

Although he didn't forge ironware, Xun Yi had some other plans.

After washing the dishes, he found Shu Wanxiu's location, said nothing, and took her back to her room.

Shu Wanxiu watched as he bolted the door, but it was too late to stop him.
