Chapter 98 Worth it or not

Chapter 98 Worth it or not

Riley came to Scarlett's bedroom.

Scarlett slumped on the sofa, feeling hopeless, her legs resting on the coffee table. Her eyes were open, but her pupils were empty and out of focus.

She didn't even notice Riley approaching her, staring at one spot, her breathing sometimes rapid and sometimes slow.

"Your Highness."

Scarlett heard this strange yet familiar name, raised her eyelids, looked at Riley, and said in a neutral tone: "What's the matter?"

Riley said softly, "Something's up."

He sat next to Scarlett, his eyebrows stained with smiles, his face as smooth as jade, kind and gentle, and he said softly: "Your Highness is under house arrest, but we are not. If Your Highness has anything to do, just give the order. You don't need to do it yourself."

Scarlett was startled, the light in her eyes gathered a few strands, and she asked in surprise: "Riley, you know?"

Riley nodded, "Yeah, I get it."

Scarlett pursed her lips, wanting to say something but didn't.

He retracted his legs from the coffee table, picked up a pillow and hugged it in his arms, saying, "Riley, what do you want to say?"

Riley smiled, a surge of joy inexplicably welling up in his heart.

He did have something else to say.

He felt unprecedented happiness when Scarlett saw through him.

It was as if this was their unique tacit understanding, which did not require too many words and could be understood with just a glance.

It belongs exclusively to him and Scarlett.

Riley lowered his eyes, hiding the joy that was about to burst out, and said calmly, "Your Highness, the 403 Research Institute is the empire's premier pharmaceutical research institute. Their pharmaceutical research far surpasses that of other empires and the Federation. Their roots are deep-rooted and solid as a rock. They cannot be shaken overnight."

"If it is really someone inside who killed someone, it will cost a lot to investigate. Is Your Highness willing?"

Scarlett looked into Riley's eyes, thought carefully, and gave an answer: "Yes."

Riley looked into her eyes and asked, "Your Highness, are you willing to take the throne?"

Scarlett never thought about this. Her life motto was that as long as she had money, that's all she needed.

Besides, Sophia is the future emperor.

Scarlett nodded, her eyes firm, "Yes."

Riley's eyes curved slightly, as if smiling, but there wasn't much joy in them. He said, "The relationships behind the 403 Research Institute are complex and intricate, and the personnel there are far more complex than you'd find in any other research institute. They're all either wealthy or noble, and come from prestigious families. A single move can have repercussions on the entire organization."

"I think this is why His Majesty doesn't want you to investigate."

Scarlett nodded as she listened.

She had read the staff information of the institute and knew their identities and status.

That's why she asked Catherine for an investigation.

She knew she would fail.

But if she doesn't try, she'll be even sadder.

Scarlett thought about it and asked curiously, "Why is it related to the throne?"

Riley reasoned, "Your Highness, the aristocratic families enjoy high prestige and status in the empire. If a crown prince stood against them, they would certainly dislike him and naturally would not support him."

"The Oranrosa Empire has had twelve emperors, and each emperor's ascension to the throne required the support of the aristocratic families."

"Children of aristocratic families possess wealth and connections accumulated by generations of ancestors. They work in politics, business, the military, teaching, medicine, and literature, and are inseparable from society."

"They and the imperial power are cooperating and competing with each other, complementing each other."

After saying this, Riley paused for a few seconds, his expression suddenly becoming serious. "So, for the sake of your Highness's future, please think carefully before making a decision, and don't act on impulse."

Scarlett listened attentively to the first few sentences, thinking that Riley was analyzing the current situation for her.

The last sentence.

She suddenly woke up and looked at Riley alertly, "Are you here to persuade me?"

Riley smiled and said coldly, "I simply feel that she is just a commoner in the underworld, like an ant, not worth mentioning. There is really no need for Your Highness to spend so much on her."

Riley said solemnly, "Your Highness, you are His Majesty's daughter. You may inherit the throne and become the ruler of a country in the future. Is it worth it for an insignificant commoner?"

Riley shook his head with emotion, answering his own question: "Not worth it! Not worth it at all. Your Highness, please be cautious."

"civilian?"

Scarlett was stunned for a moment, her eyes swollen, and her face darkened. "Is she just a civilian in your eyes? Isn't she a life, a person?"

Riley's heartstrings were plucked at this moment, causing his heart to tremble slightly.

He faced Scarlett's angry expression and said rationally, "Your Highness, I have said before, compared to you, they are insignificant. They are not worthy of you giving up anything."

Scarlett hated to hear this the most.

Everyone’s life is extremely precious, how can it be measured by status!

Her eyes were red, she pointed at the door and said angrily: "Shut up! I don't want to listen, get out!"

Riley didn't stand up, and said coldly, "Your Highness, don't forget that you are the daughter of His Majesty. Your beastly husbands all come from aristocratic families. If you make the wrong decision, these will become swords stabbing you, leaving you with no hope of recovery!"

Scarlett was about to get angry, but her expression suddenly froze, her pupils trembled, and she quickly glanced at Riley.

Riley looked like this, but his eyes moved, as if hinting at something.

Scarlett blinked and instantly understood the meaning of this sentence.

Riley was reminding her.

She was confined by His Majesty.

His Majesty's spies who stayed by her side would certainly keep a closer eye on her.

Riley couldn't say it directly, so he could only remind her in a tactful way.

She also has the support of aristocratic families behind her.

That is her beastly husband's family.

They prosper together and suffer together.

Scarlett didn't smile, but her eyes softened. She kept pointing at the door, her anger undiminished, "Get out."

Riley stood up and saluted, "Yes, Your Highness."

Riley stood up but didn't leave. He thought for a moment, then suddenly bent down and held Scarlett's shoulders with both hands. His dark green eyes stared at her without blinking, and countless black threads oozed out from his brows and flew towards Scarlett.

The incident happened suddenly, Scarlett was startled and instinctively wanted to hide.

"Don't move, it will only take a moment." Riley said gently.

Riley's voice is very textured, slightly hoarse, with a lingering ending that will hook your ears and keep you listening.

Let it go.

Scarlett was frozen and didn't move.

But she didn't dare look into Riley's eyes. Those eyes were so beautiful, like a treasure box containing countless secrets. She was afraid that once she opened them, she would be addicted to them and unable to close them.

I could only stare blankly with my eyelids drooping.

The thick eyelashes trembled, and the dark shadow fluttered like butterfly wings.

A minute passed.

Riley withdrew his hand, stood up straight with understanding, and said, "Okay, Your Highness."

Scarlett nodded confusedly, her cheeks slightly red.

Her heartbeat wasn't fast, but it made her chest feel numb and tingling, as if countless electric currents were running through it.

Riley withdrew his hand but did not look away. He looked at Scarlett with her neck lowered and her cheeks blushing. He was usually steady, but it was rare for him to show a mischievous expression.

He bent down again and whispered in Scarlett's ear...

The warm breath kissed her pink earlobe.

Her mind was instantly confused as if it were a paste.

She didn't catch what Riley said.

I was dizzy for a long time before I came to my senses.

Take a look.

Riley was nowhere to be found in the room.

Scarlett cupped her hot cheeks.

Once again I despise myself for being so inexperienced! ! ! ! !

Scarlett is grounded.

But her optical computer was not locked.

In the middle of the night, she tentatively stepped out of the gate of Hurda Palace and found that she was not electrocuted, so she could go out.

Scarlett was worried that something might happen if she delayed.

After she told Lilia something, she slipped out at night. Halfway through, she remembered Riley's words and quietly went to find Gra.

She asked Guerra, "Can you fly a flying ship?"

Gra had just woken up and was still a little confused. He paused for a moment before saying, "Yes."

"Okay, come with me."
