Lin Feng listened to Meng Qing's breathing coming from the phone, stopped singing, and whispered: "Good night!"
He hung up the phone. The relaxed atmosphere made Lin Feng gradually feel sleepy. Just when he was falling asleep, he heard a thudding sound coming from the next room.
Then there was the sound of pong~pong~. Lin Feng frowned, but his tired body prevented him from opening his eyes.
.......
The next day, Lin Feng woke up in a daze, opened his phone and saw a message from Meng Qing.
Meng Qing: "When did you fall asleep yesterday?"
Lin Feng replied with an "I don't know" and went to the bathroom to wash up, listening to the sounds of footsteps and the whispers of the crowd outside.
Then there was a knock on the door.
Lin Feng walked over and opened the door, then saw two policemen standing at the door.
"Hello, sir. We are the police. We would like to ask you something." The older policeman in the lead spoke.
Lin Feng nodded, invited the police in, sat on the sofa and watched them.
"Excuse me, did you hear any noise at 3 a.m. today?" the policeman asked directly.
Lin Feng thought for a moment and said, "I don't know what time it was, but I did hear a noise yesterday when I was half asleep, but it was very short."
"Okay, then have you ever been out?" the police asked.
Lin Feng shook his head and said, "I was too sleepy yesterday and didn't go out."
The police stared at Lin Feng's eyes, then asked the younger policeman next to him to take out a photo, handed it to Lin Feng and asked:
"Excuse me, do you know her?"
Lin Feng took the photo and looked at the girl in the photo. She was very beautiful, but he had no impression of her.
He shook his head and returned it to the police.
"What about this one?" The police took out another photo, which was a surveillance screenshot.
It was exactly the girl I met in the elevator yesterday night.
Lin Feng nodded and said, "I just pressed the elevator button for her yesterday."
The policeman nodded, then stood up and said, "Sir, I'm sorry, please come with us to the police station to take a statement."
Lin Feng nodded. As a citizen, he naturally had the obligation to cooperate.
"Wait for me to pack up." Lin Feng said and got up to change his clothes, and sent a message to Shen Yunche and Meng Qing.
Then I followed the police to the police station. Fortunately, it was only for interrogation purposes, so he was allowed to drive there by himself.
Inside the interrogation room, the lighting was deliberately set to be somewhat glaring.
Lin Feng rubbed his swollen temples and sat calmly on the chair. Opposite him were two policemen - the young Officer Zhao and another silent officer.
Lin Feng thought that he had explained everything he could, and didn't understand why he wouldn't be let go.
Officer Zhao rapped his knuckles on the table to draw Lin Feng's attention back. He cleared his throat and asked in a scrutinizing tone, "Lin Feng?"
"It's me." Lin Feng answered calmly.
"Hmph, that's right. Cooperate. It'll be good for everyone and we'll be out soon."
Officer Zhao leaned back in his chair with satisfaction, but his eyes were filled with unquestionable pressure.
He stood up and walked to Lin Feng's side, his shadow looming over him: "I'll ask you again, around 3am today, did you hear any unusual noises coming from room 4332 next door? Listen carefully, it was 'abnormal' noises!"
His voice suddenly rose, carrying the oppressive feeling unique to interrogation.
Lin Feng frowned slightly and recalled: "Officer, I told you, I did hear a dull sound similar to a heavy object falling to the ground in the middle of the night, but it lasted for a short time. I was too sleepy at the time and didn't pay attention to it, let alone check the time."
"Okay." Officer Zhao leaned down, put his hands on the armrests of the chair, almost face to face with Lin Feng, his eyes as sharp as a knife.
"Have you ever gone out to check? Or has anyone come to see you?"
Lin Feng looked at him frankly without dodging: "No. I was sleeping very soundly and didn't wake up until I heard a knock on the door."
Officer Zhao stared at Lin Feng's eyes for more than ten seconds, as if trying to find a flaw in him.
Then he motioned to the officer next to him to hand him a photo.
"Do you know her?" The photo showed a pretty young woman.
Lin Feng looked at it carefully and shook his head: "I don't know him. I've never seen him."
"Is this the first time you meet here?" Officer Zhao took out the screenshot of the elevator.
"Yes, officer, you have asked me the third time, and it's exactly the same." Lin Feng said with a smile.
Opposite him were Officer Zhao and the silent officer.
Lin Feng had recounted last night's experience many times and didn't understand why he had to stay any longer.
Officer Zhao knocked on the table, stood up, and took out a document. His tone was obviously impatient: "Lin Feng, don't waste your time."
"Sign and confirm what you just said on this transcript." He pushed a document in front of Lin Feng.
Lin Feng picked up the document and reviewed it line by line as usual.
The content at the beginning was indeed his confession, but when he turned to the last page where he signed, his brows furrowed - there was a glaring blank area above the signature column.
"Officer," Lin Feng put down his pen and said calmly, "Isn't the format of this transcript wrong? There is so much space in front of the signature column, which is not in compliance with the regulations. Moreover," he pointed to the law enforcement recorder turned off in the corner, "the recorder was turned off during the entire interrogation. Is this procedure in compliance?"
Officer Zhao's face instantly darkened and he slammed the table: "Why are you talking so much nonsense! Just sign if I tell you to! After you sign, you can leave immediately!" He stood up and his hand pressed on the baton at his waist intentionally or unintentionally. The threat was self-evident.
The police officer who had been silent all this time sighed and whispered, "Mr. Lin, just sign it. It's just a formality. It will save everyone trouble once you sign it."
Lin Feng was unmoved and looked directly at Officer Zhao: "What are you trying to save? To cover up your illegal handling of the case? I won't sign such a problematic document."
"If you don't accept my toast, you'll have to drink for me!" A trace of hostility flashed in Officer Zhao's eyes, and he took a sudden step forward.
He grabbed Lin Feng's shoulders fiercely and pressed him hard on the table!
Lin Feng was caught off guard, and his arms and chest were hurt by the cold table top.
"What are you doing!" Lin Feng struggled, but the other party was very strong.
"What are you doing? I'm teaching you the rules!" Officer Zhao pressed down on Lin Feng's back with one hand.
He raised his other hand as if to hit, but in the end he just smashed his fist hard on the table next to Lin Feng.
There was a loud bang! He leaned close to Lin Feng's ear and spoke in a very low voice, but it was full of chill: "Boy, look carefully at where this is! You don't want to sign? Believe it or not, I have plenty of ways to let you 'rest' here for a few days and nights? Can you bear it?"
Lin Feng clenched his teeth, cold sweat oozed from his forehead, and his back was burning with pain from being pressed down.
He stopped struggling and just stared at Officer Zhao's face, which was so close to him, with his terrifyingly calm eyes, trying to engrave this face into his mind.
At this tense moment, the door of the interrogation room was pushed open with a loud bang!
"Stop!" a majestic shout rang out.
