Chapter 197 Courtyard

The days after marriage flow gently and smoothly.

The two of them lived in a building, planted flowers, played with cats, and turned their daily lives into poetry.

Two months passed in a flash, and it was an afternoon that seemed no different from any other.

The sunlight lazily passed through the window lattice, casting slanting spots of light on the wooden floor.

Mengqing was sitting by the window, trimming a bunch of newly bought sunflowers. The golden flower disks reflected her peaceful profile.

Lin Feng put down the book in his hand, walked behind her, gently put his arms around her waist, rested his chin on her shoulder, and spoke with a hint of barely perceptible joy:

"It's a nice day today. Can I take you somewhere?"

"Where are you going?" Meng Qing put down the scissors, turned her head to look at him, with a gentle smile and a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

Lin Feng rarely acts on impulse like this.

"A secret." Lin Feng blinked, with a mysterious smile on his face: "You'll know when you get there. Change into comfortable clothes and let's drive."

The car drove away from the familiar city streets, and the scenery outside the window gradually changed from tall buildings to green fields, and then to rolling hills and villages dotted in between.

The sunlight shines through the car window, casting a warm glow on my body.

Meng Qing looked at the rice fields, bamboo forests and sparkling rivers passing by outside the window, and the doubts in her heart grew deeper and deeper.

But looking at Lin Feng's profile as he concentrated on driving and the smile on his lips.

She stopped asking questions and just leaned against the car window quietly, enjoying this unknown journey and the company of the people around her.

The car finally turned into a quiet country road with tall camphor trees on both sides.

At the end of the road, the view suddenly opens up. A house with white walls and black tiles and an independent courtyard stands quietly among the lush greenery.

The courtyard wall is not high and is covered with vibrant trumpet creeper vines. Although the flowering season has passed, there are still scattered orange-red flowers dotted among the green leaves.

The car stopped outside a low stone wall covered with moss. Lin Feng turned off the engine and turned to look at Meng Qing, his eyes gleaming with bright light and a hint of nervous anticipation:

"arrive."

Meng Qing pushed open the car door, stood in the cool autumn breeze, and looked at the small courtyard in front of her that seemed to have walked out of a painting. She was a little stunned for a moment.

The white walls have been stained a light gray and yellow by the years. The wooden gate of the courtyard is simple and heavy. A string of small wind chimes hangs on the lintel, making crisp and subtle tinkling sounds in the breeze.

An inexplicable, strong sense of familiarity and belonging instantly gripped her.

Lin Feng took her hand, his palm warm, and led her to push open the half-open courtyard door.

“Squeak—”

The sound of the door hinges turning carries the texture of time.

The whole picture of the courtyard appears before your eyes.

The yard is not very big, but it is full of care and ingenuity.

The ground was paved with bluestone slabs of varying sizes, with bits of moss stubbornly growing out of the cracks.

On the left, an old osmanthus tree with lush branches and leaves stands tall and majestic.

A rich sweet fragrance filled the air, and a layer of fine golden color fell under the trees.

On the right side is a small grape trellis with dark brown vines entwined around it.

The leaves glowed golden in the autumn sun, and under the frame stood a small round wooden table and two rattan chairs.

What attracted Meng Qing's attention most was the brand new swing in the center of the yard.

The swing frame is made of solid logs, polished to a smooth and warm tone, showing a warm wood color.

Two stout hemp ropes hung from the beam, connecting it to a wide, thick oak plank seat.

The edges of the wooden boards are polished into a gentle curve to prevent bumps.

And on it were found several hand-carved words.

"This is..." Meng Qing's heartbeat suddenly accelerated. She turned to look at Lin Feng, tears welling up in her eyes.

Lin Feng held her hand tightly, his voice low and gentle:

"You said you wanted a small courtyard of your own, with trees, flowers, and a swing, where you could bask in the sun, listen to the wind and watch the rain. I always remember that."

He pulled her to the swing and ran his fingers over the inscription:

"I made this swing myself. I spent a long time selecting the wood, tried several ropes, and carved the words... I also wasted a few boards."

He smiled a little embarrassedly: "'Fengqing Cottage', our yard, do you like it?"

The huge surprise and touching moment were like a warm current, instantly breaking down all of Meng Qing’s defenses.

She couldn't bear it any longer, and threw herself into Lin Feng's arms, hugging him tightly, her voice choking with sobs:

"I like it! I like it very much! Lin Feng...thank you..."

It turned out that the words she said at the beginning were all remembered so preciously in his heart, and turned into a reality that was within his reach.

Lin Feng hugged her back, stroking her hair with his chin, and said softly, "Come on, let's go in and take a look at our home."

Pushing open the heavy wooden door of the main house, you will see a spacious and bright living room.

The floor is covered with light wooden floors, which are smooth and warm.

The walls are a soft off-white color, and are hung with several ink-and-wash landscape paintings with profound artistic conception.

Most of the furniture is made of logs and rattan, with simple and smooth lines, exuding a natural feel.

Outside the large floor-to-ceiling window, there is a lively courtyard.

The kitchen is open and connected to the dining room. The long wooden dining table is large enough to accommodate a gathering of friends and family.

All kinds of kitchen utensils are available, polished to a shine and sparkling in the sun.

Going up the wooden stairs, you will reach the quiet space on the second floor.

The master bedroom faces south, and huge floor-to-ceiling windows bring in the greenery and sunshine of the courtyard.

A large double bed with elegant and comfortable bedding.

The most special thing is that Lin Feng opened an exquisite skylight on the sloping roof!

During the day, sunlight can pour down;

At night, you can see the twinkling stars while lying in bed.

Meng Qing's heart melted as she imagined counting the stars through the skylight at night.

The study is next door, with a whole wall of bookshelves and a large desk on the other side. The window faces the lush osmanthus tree.

Lin Feng specially reserved a place for her next to the desk to place her easel and paints.

What surprised Meng Qing the most was Lin Feng’s renovation of the roof.

Instead of leaving the roof idle, he laid antiseptic wooden floors and built a safety fence, turning it into a small "starry sky terrace"!

There is a huge parasol in the corner of the terrace, under which are comfortable lounge chairs and a small coffee table.

In another corner, there is actually a mini astronomical telescope stand!

"Here," Lin Feng pulled her onto the terrace, and the view suddenly opened up.

The fields, villages and rivers in the distance are all in sight.

The breeze blows on my face, bringing with it the fresh scent of the fields.

"During the day, you can bask in the sun and read a book, and at night... it's our private observatory."

Meng Qing stood at the edge of the terrace, looking around at everything that was carefully crafted.

Looking at the man beside her who turned her dreams into reality bit by bit.

I just feel so overwhelmed with happiness that words seem pale.

She could only hold his hand tightly and express her love and gratitude with her eyes.

As the sun sets, the courtyard is dyed a warm golden red.

The two of them prepared dinner together in the brand new kitchen. It was a simple meal of three dishes and one soup, but it tasted particularly delicious.
