Chapter 52 Rainy Night

The woman kneeling in front of the carriage was named An Rong. She touched her forehead to the ground and begged Wei Min to take charge of the souls of the hundreds of people in her family.

"I am a commoner from Chenzhou. I have been blessed by my ancestors for three generations. I own nearly a thousand acres of good farmland. I am an honest and decent person, both as a businessman and as a commoner," An Rong gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, saying angrily with red eyes, "In the past two years, the Duke of Huai has occupied the land of Chenzhou. At the beginning of this year, he took a fancy to my An family's thousand acres of good farmland and threatened and lured me to buy it for only a hundred taels of silver."

"My An family refused to obey, and this brought disaster upon us," the wind blew, blowing An Rong's tattered robes, making them rustle in the wind. Her voice was choked with sobs, but her words were clear, filled with indignation. "My An family, from the oldest to the youngest, a total of more than 153 people...were all massacred overnight! In an instant, the An family was turned into a living hell with a river of blood. In the end, only my mother and I were left, and the servants risked their lives to escort us out."

An Rong clenched her fists and trembled. The thought of the tragic scene that night had forced her eyes to fill with tears. "Duke Huai has occupied the land of Chenzhou and used his power to kill people and destroy families. I, An Rong, on behalf of the people of Chenzhou, beg you to make a decision for us!"

An Rong's head hit the ground with a loud and crisp sound, showing his determination.

After An Rong kowtowed, he straightened his back, two lines of hot tears slid down his cheeks, and he raised his hands high above his head with his palms together, and said in a sonorous and powerful voice, "I believe that as the Minister of the Dali Temple, you will make the decision for us ordinary people!"

Wei Min's brows were furrowed and his eyes were heavy. After a moment's silence, he said, "You should follow me to the capital. This matter must be reported to His Majesty."

Upon hearing this, An Rong naturally thanked him profusely, and Eighteen went forward to help the man up.

With the An family's mother and daughter joining in, Erjiu had no choice but to climb into the car, leaving the outside to the three of them.

Wei Min asked A'ruan to take out her and Shiba's clothes, and found two pieces for the An mother and daughter to change into in disguise.

An hour later, everyone finally arrived at the post station. Just as Eighteen drove the carriage in, heavy rain came pouring down.

Eighteen took out the token, and the postmaster hurried out to welcome the people in. He ordered people to boil water and cook, and at the same time found a doctor for An's mother.

Upon learning that An's mother was not seriously injured, An Rong's frown relaxed a little.

Wei Min stood at the door porch with his hands behind his back, staring at the rain in the distance. After An Rong settled his mother down, he came out and stood one step behind her, looking hesitant and seeming to want to say something.

Wei Min heard footsteps behind him and said without even turning his head, "If you have anything to say, just say it."

An Rong bowed his hands, his eyes flickering, "To be honest with you, my lord, my mother and I have been hunted all the way, and I am afraid... afraid that they will find this place and implicate you, lord."

Wei Min turned to look at An Rong, raised his eyebrows, and said with interest: "When you knelt down and begged me to make the decision, you didn't say that you were being hunted. Aren't you afraid that if you tell me now, I will think you are a trouble and deal with you first? In this way, I can also please the Duke of Huai on my way to the capital to report on my work."

An Rong was startled at first, then shook his head and said firmly in a deep voice: "My Lord is not such a person."

Wei Min sneered, stood with his hands behind his back, and said in a low voice, "Do you know who the Duke of Huai belongs to? What do you think I, a mere fourth-rank official of the Dali Temple, can do to the princess?"

An Rong's body stiffened and his pupils dilated. His hands hanging at his sides were clenched into fists and he remained silent for a long time.

“Could it be that the court would allow the Duke of Huai to exploit the people and occupy the land like this?” An Rong looked at Wei Min in a daze, his eyes filled with helplessness and pain. He asked loudly, “Then the lives of more than a hundred people in my An family have all died in vain? Are the lives of the people so cheap and worthless?!”

Wei Min was unmoved and asked her, "If you go to the capital and find that the court is not what you thought, and the emperor cannot make decisions for you, what will you do?"

An Rong gritted her teeth, her eyes red, and said in a resolute tone, "Return to Chenzhou." She clenched her hands tightly, "If the court cannot make decisions for the people, then An is willing to use all her means to seek justice for the souls of my An family!"

Wei Min smiled inappropriately when he heard this, and looked at her with admiration, "I thought you would say that you would die in front of His Majesty."

Wei Min turned around and looked at the hazy rain in the courtyard, and said in a relaxed tone: "I feel relieved to know that you are determined."

An Rong was startled, and after reacting, he looked at Wei Min's back and murmured, "Are you afraid that I will be bribed or afraid after entering the capital? Then the case of the Duke of Huai in Chenzhou encroaching on the land will be left unresolved?"

Wei Min smiled, "That's right." If she worked hard but the person involved gave up and deserted, she would be a joke.

An Rong lowered his eyes, pondered for a while, then raised his head and looked at Wei Min intently, and asked, "Are you really willing to make decisions for the people of Chenzhou?"

Wei Min glanced at her sideways and said, "If you don't want to, you may not be able to walk into the post station alive."

After hearing her assurance, An Rong knelt down without any hesitation and said, "I have a petition in my hand with bloody handprints from the people of Chenzhou whose land was occupied. I wanted to file a complaint with the emperor, but my mother and I are being hunted by the Duke of Huai and I am afraid it will be difficult for us to enter the capital... I want to give this to you now, but I hope you can return to the capital safely and give it to the emperor."

As he spoke, he reached into his shirt and pulled out the well-protected petition paper, holding it in both hands and handed it to Wei Min.

Wei Min took the petition and took a look at it, then handed it back to An Rong and said, "Please keep it safe and follow me to the capital." She sneered, "There are probably as many people who want to kill me as there are people who want to kill you."

An Rong was confused, obviously not understanding what Wei Min meant, and asked tentatively: "Did you offend anyone, sir?"

Wei Min turned her head to look at the rain, choosing not to answer the question. She seemed to have thought of something, looked back at An Rong, raised her eyebrows and smiled, "If the two teams meet at night, it will be exciting to watch."

After leaving An Rong, Wei Min went straight back to her room. A Ruan happened to come back from the kitchen, so she handed the steaming soup in her hand to her.

Wei Min lowered his eyes and looked at the brown-yellow soup in the bowl that exuded a pungent smell. He frowned slightly and was so disgusted that he didn't even want to look at it a second time.

Seeing A'ruan silently urging her to drink the ginger soup, Wei Min looked him up and down, trying to divert his attention by asking, "A'ruan, are you cold?"

As she spoke, she placed the bowl on the table and raised her hand to touch the half of his fair neck that was exposed from his collar with her fingertips.

A Ruan lowered her head and pulled her sleeves, counting her clothes for Wei Min to see. He was wearing three layers of clothing and wasn't cold at all.

Wei Min nodded and said, "I'll go read a book for a while. Call me when it's time for dinner."

Ah Ruan nodded subconsciously. After Wei Min left, she saw the bowl of ginger soup on the table which was still full. She shook her head helplessly.

It was a bit cold today, and A'ruan was afraid that everyone would be caught in the wind and get caught in the rain, so she asked the kitchen to cook some ginger soup for everyone to drink to prevent getting cold.

He had watched people drink at Eighteen and Twenty-Nine, and now his wife was the only one who hadn't drunk.

A Ruan picked up the ginger soup, turned around and walked to the bed, then handed the bowl to his wife.

Wei Min was leaning against the bedpost, reading a book with his eyes downcast. He looked so serious and absorbed in it that it seemed as if he didn't notice A Ruan standing next to him.

A'ruan didn't urge her and just held the bowl.

After a moment, Wei Min put down the book in his hand and looked at A Ruan helplessly, "Silly, you really want to hold it like this? Aren't you tired?"

A Ruan pursed her lips and smiled, her smile was gentle, and Wei Min lost his temper.

Wei Min had no choice but to sit up straight, take the bowl with one hand, pull A'ruan into his arms with the other hand, raise his head to drink the ginger soup in one gulp, put the bowl on the short stool beside him, then lower his head and kiss A'ruan on the lips.

Wei Min put A'ruan in his arms, pressed her lips against his, and seeing that he pursed his lips as if he knew her purpose, she couldn't help but smile. She reached out and gently tickled his skin. When he laughed and opened his mouth, she used the gesture of kissing to pass all the ginger soup in her mouth into A'ruan's mouth.

Four soft lips pressed against each other, noses rubbed against each other, and their breaths blended together.

A Ruan swallowed the ginger soup, but Wei Min's tongue was entangled with it, stirring and licking in his mouth, slowly taking away the taste of the ginger soup.

After the breathless kiss, Wei Min raised his hand, cupped A'ruan's face with the base of his palm, wiped away the silver strands from the corners of his mouth, and asked him in a low, laughing voice, "Is it sweet?"

A'ruan was succeeded by her kiss. The corners of his eyes turned red and his vision was blurred with tears in his eyes. He could not help but glare at her and turned his head away, unwilling to answer.

Wei Min did not let him go.

Ah Ruan lay on the bed, his legs naturally resting on the edge of the bed, and Wei Min lifted one leg and squeezed it between his legs, supporting his head with his hands, leaned over and whispered to him, "Do you like it?"

When Ah Ruan saw her knees moving up, which was full of meaning, he immediately raised his hands to resist her upper body that was pressing on him, begging for mercy, pursed his lips and nodded.

——I like it, I like it, I like it so much.

Seeing that it was almost time for dinner, if he was tormented by his wife now, he would probably have no choice but to have a midnight snack.

Wei Min buried his head in the crook of A Ruan's neck and chuckled. He pressed his lips against the soft flesh of his neck and said to him, "Why are you so honest?"

A Ruan looked at the bed curtain weakly. He wanted to say that she had been too busy last night and he was still tired today. But when he lowered his eyes and looked at the furry head in the crook of his neck, A Ruan's eyes softened involuntarily.

A Ruan raised her hand, gently hugged Wei Min's back, and lowered her head to rub her head with her chin.

Wei Min was stimulated by A Ruan's actions, and his original kiss on his neck immediately turned into sucking, gnawing and biting.

The tingling and itchy sensation on her neck made Ah Ruan hiss softly, and all her tenderness and affection suddenly disappeared. She raised her hand and patted Wei Min's back, signaling her to get up and eat.

Wei Min and A'ruan had a big fight before dinner, but after dinner, she lay in bed and behaved herself.

Wei Min held A'ruan in his arms and patted his back to coax him to sleep. She was very well behaved and looked quite abstinent and serious, which was completely different from the way she looked in the afternoon when she was so anxious that she wanted to tear Ruan apart and eat her right there.

A Ruan glanced at Wei Min suspiciously, and when he saw her closing her eyelids and getting ready to sleep, he closed his eyes.

With his wife's tenderness and the sound of rain dripping outside the roof window, A Ruan fell asleep soon.

It was probably late at night and the rain outside had not stopped yet, but besides the sound of rain, there was also the faint sound of weapons clashing and fighting.

Hearing the noise, Wei Min opened his eyes instantly. His eyes were clear, without any of the haziness and confusion that he had when he had just woken up.

She raised her hand to tuck the corner of the quilt for A'ruan, then held him in her arms, stroking his back lightly from time to time with her palm, without any intention of going out to check on him.
