Chapter 8 I Like A Ruan

They had noodles for breakfast, and there was a boiled egg in Wei Min's bowl.

The only dish on the table was a bowl of homemade pickled vegetables, which was placed in front of Wei Min. A'ruan was sitting on her right, with almost no intention of eating the food.

Before Wei Min picked up the chopsticks to eat, his eyes swept across A Ruan's body calmly, finally stopping at his wrist.

A Ruan forgot to roll up his sleeves while eating, revealing his arm, which was as white as a lotus root and as thin as a stick. It was as fragile as porcelain and seemed like it would break if he squeezed it with the slightest force.

Wei Min lowered his eyes, picked up the bowl and put the fried egg into A'ruan's bowl.

A Ruan looked at the egg that suddenly appeared in the bowl and hurriedly picked up the chopsticks to pick it back for Wei Min.

Wei Min seemed to have guessed that he would do this. He stretched out his chopsticks and placed them on his chopsticks. With a little force, he was unable to lift his hand.

Ah Ruan frowned slightly, as if disapproving of her action, put down her chopsticks and raised her hand to gesture to Wei Min:

——My wife needs eggs more than I do.

Ah Ruan had apparently forgotten that Wei Min didn't know sign language, and continued to sign one sentence after another:

——My wife is going to be the top scholar in the imperial examination. I don’t do anything at home and don’t need to eat this.

Wei Min just watched A'ruan gesture quietly, and even though he didn't understand anything, he didn't say anything to interrupt him.

After A Ruan made the gestures, he realized belatedly that his wife didn't understand what he meant. He placed his hands on the table helplessly, scratching the surface with his curled fingers, pursed his lips and shook his head at Wei Min, indicating that he didn't want to eat.

Seeing A'ruan's firm attitude, Wei Min didn't say anything. He lowered his eyelids and took the egg back.

Her silence made A'ruan's fingers on the table curl up even tighter.

The wife actually wanted to be nice to him. Wasn't he a little ungrateful just now?

A Ruan pursed his lips and secretly glanced at Wei Min out of the corner of his eye. He couldn't see any emotion on his wife's face, which made him feel even more uneasy.

In the Zhang family, when there were good things, Zhang Youyao, who was studying, would naturally be given the first bite. Zhang said that studying was taxing her brain, and she needed to eat good things to replenish her body.

He just wanted to help his wife replenish her body...

A Ruan picked up the chopsticks again and started eating. He swallowed the steaming noodles whole as if he didn't feel the heat.

When Wei Min raised his chopsticks, he saw him choking and glanced at the side to see him coughing. His thin shoulders were shaking from his cough.

Wei Min was startled and quickly poured a cup of warm water to his mouth, "Why are you eating so fast?"

A Ruan clutched the clothes on his legs, his eyes red from coughing. He looked up at Wei Min, and saw that she was gently stroking his back with one hand and handing him a cup of water with the other. He resisted the urge to raise his hand to take the bowl, lowered his eyelids, his long eyelashes trembling slightly, and stretched his neck to tentatively take a sip of water from the bowl held by Wei Min, secretly watching her face.

When Wei Min saw A'ruan's lips were rosy and shiny after licking the water, his throat tightened involuntarily and he swallowed his saliva. Even the hand holding the bowl trembled and he quickly and uncomfortably moved his eyes away from his lips.

A Ruan seemed not to notice anything strange about her. After drinking the water, he raised his hand and gently touched the back of Wei Min's hand, drawing her attention back to his face. He smiled at her and indicated that he didn't want to drink anymore.

Wei Min then put the bowl aside, looked at the corners of his eyes which were red from coughing, and wanted to reach out and touch them, but he restrained himself and said softly, "Don't eat so hastily next time."

Ah Ruan nodded meekly.

Wei Min put a piece of the poached egg he had just split in half into A'ruan's bowl, glanced at him, and commented, "You are too thin."

This time, A Ruan did not take the egg back, but quietly accepted Wei Min's kindness to him.

Seeing him eating the eggs obediently, Wei Min felt relieved and said the second half of his sentence, "You are so thin that I feel like I am bullying you if I want to touch you."

“…”

After saying this, both of them were silent for a moment. A Ruan's face quickly turned red, like a cooked shrimp, which looked so delicious.

Wei Min was a little uncomfortable at first, thinking that it was not serious for him to say such things, but after seeing A'ruan's reaction, he inexplicably felt that it was not serious to see A'ruan like this.

After the meal, A Ruan quickly cleared the dishes and took them aside to wash.

Wei Min was not idle either. He turned around and went to the well to get him a bucket of water.

At this moment, Wei Lian came over with Sun and Wei Luo.

When Wei Luo saw Wei Min, his eyes lit up and he subconsciously wanted to throw himself into her arms. He even struggled to free his hands from Wei Lian's hands. But when he was about to run over, he remembered something and was too timid to move.

When Sun saw her son's appearance, her heart ached and she almost cried. He raised his hand and touched Wei Luo's head, and said softly, "Go."

The fault was his, and he should not let his fault ruin the blood relationship between Wei Luo and Wei Min.

Wei Luo then happily called out "Auntie" and ran towards Wei Min.

Wei Min quickly squatted down, caught his little nephew who rushed over, and asked him with a smile if he had eaten.

Wei Luo was picked up by Wei Min with one hand and sat in her arms. He nodded obediently, turned his head to look into the room, and asked her in a low voice, "Where is my uncle?"

"I'm washing dishes in the house." Wei Min saw that his eldest sister and her family had all come, so he roughly guessed what it was about. He smiled and raised his hand to scratch Wei Luo's straight nose, and asked: "Does A Luo like his uncle?"

Wei Luo nodded without any hesitation, and hummed shyly: "My uncle is handsome, A Luo secretly saw him yesterday."

He was short in stature, and when he stood in front of A'ruan, he could see A'ruan's face under the veil just by raising his head slightly.

Wei Luo was very happy, "My uncle even smiled at me."

Wei Min couldn't help but smile and gently pinched Wei Luo's nose, "A Luo is just like my aunt, and my aunt also likes your uncle-in-law."

She spoke in a loud voice, just loud enough for Wei Lian and Sun who were approaching to hear.

The couple paused and looked at each other. Sun lowered her head and rubbed the corner of her clothes, then walked to Wei Min and said, "Amin, I'm sorry for you."

Wei Min put Wei Luo down from his arms, touched his uneasy face, and said with a smile: "My uncle still has some peanuts. Go ask him where he put them."

Wei Min stood up after sending Wei Luo away. The smile on his face was a little lighter than when he faced Wei Luo just now, but he still smiled. "I know it's not easy for my brother-in-law to be the head of the family. I don't blame you."

Wei Min could understand to some extent the difficulties Sun faced and his concerns. He didn't blame him in his heart, but it was unlikely that he didn't mind at all.

Sun's eyes were red and she didn't know what to say. Wei Lian took a step forward from behind her, shook Sun's hand, and then said to Wei Min: "Sister wants to talk to you."

Sun went into the house to find Wei Luo, and the Wei Min sisters sat on the stone bench in the yard.

Wei Min saw that his elder sister's eyes were dark and bloodshot, and knew that she probably didn't sleep all night. He felt a little distressed, so he put his hand on the back of her hand and said, "Sister, I know what you want to say. I really don't blame my brother-in-law, and I really like A'ruan. Even though he can't speak and is a mute, I still like him."

Wei Lian's lips moved. What she wanted to say and what she wanted to say to apologize for Sun Shi were all disrupted by Wei Min's words. She opened her mouth, not knowing what to say. She could only hold Wei Min's hand, squeezed it tightly, and said with a sob, "I'm sorry."

"Sister, your words are meaningless," Wei Min smiled bitterly, "How could I not know how much you love me? If my brother-in-law was a vicious person, he would have found a way to kick me out when Luo was born. How could he be willing to pay for me to continue my studies...

I know my brother-in-law has always wanted a daughter. Don't blame him. He is also thinking about our Wei family. I also know the knot in your heart. You need to communicate with your brother-in-law. Whether you have a child or not, you have to let him know that you are not the kind of person who favors girls over boys. ”

Speaking of communication, Wei Min couldn't help but show a bit of pride on his face, "Even though A'ruan can't speak, I think our communication is much simpler and more direct than that between you and your brother-in-law."

When Wei Lian saw the obvious smile in Wei Min's eyes when she said this, she knew that her words of liking A Ruan were not just to comfort herself.

Wei Min would never have said something like today to Wei Lian in the past, but now that they are married, the two sisters seem to have more topics to talk about when it comes to getting along with their husbands, and they talk a lot more than before.

When Sun arrived at the main room, she saw A'ruan half-squatting on the ground putting peanuts into Wei Luo's pocket.

When A Ruan heard Wei Luo calling him "Daddy", he looked up at Sun.

Sun pulled the corner of her mouth uncomfortably, smiled at A'ruan, and explained helplessly: "The two sisters were talking outside..."

A Ruan gave him a clean and gentle smile in return, and Sun was slightly stunned. When he looked at A Ruan again, he saw him stuffing all the peanuts in his hand into Wei Luo's pocket, and touched his arm to signal him that he could come to him.

Wei Luo stood in front of Sun, handed him the peanuts in his hand, and said crisply, "Daddy, eat too."

When Sun saw A'ruan looking at her with a smile, and then looked down at Wei Luo holding the peanuts, the smile on her face became much more natural, "Daddy doesn't want to eat it."

He raised his hand and tapped Wei Luo's forehead, whispering to him, "You've packed all the peanuts from your aunt's house, what are you going to let your uncle eat?"

Wei Luo smiled and said, "My uncle-in-law said he doesn't want to eat."

Sun looked up at A'ruan, and A'ruan nodded in agreement, indicating that Wei Luo was right.

Only then did Sun burst out laughing, took Wei Luo's hand and sat down to "talk" to A'ruan.

Most of the time he was the one talking and Ruan was the one listening.

A'ruan is really a good listener, and his expression will change depending on what you say. His mouth slightly opened when he was frightened, a smile appeared at the corners of his mouth when he found something funny, and his brows furrowed when he heard a plot twist... Just looking at his expression, one could feel that he was listening carefully.

It had been a long time since anyone had "chatted" with him like this, so the smile on A Ruan's face did not fade even after Sun left.

When Wei Min saw her husband like this, the slight concern she had for Sun Shi disappeared.

Wei Min asked Master Wei for a total of five days of leave. In the blink of an eye, four days had passed. According to the plan, he should have returned tomorrow afternoon.

Wei Min was thinking about returning home in three days, so he planned to ask A'ruan first before deciding whether to go back to the academy.

If it were any other family, Wei Min would not have asked this question, but seeing the attitude of the Zhang family, she knew that they did not treat A Ruan as a relative at all, so she asked this question.

As expected, Aruan shook his head indifferently.

Wei Min understood and was about to pack up and return to the academy, but she heard from someone who had returned from Zhangjia Village that Zhang had asked her to give a message to A'ruan.

The Zhang family asked A'ruan to bring his wife back home tomorrow.

The author has something to say: Wei Min: I heard that I am going back home, so I must bring my 40-meter-long sword with me (▼へ▼メ)
