Tao Wenwen entered the house, put the steamed buns on the table, and then went into the kitchen. He started the fire and started boiling the pot slowly and skillfully.
Zhang Kongming followed and stood at the kitchen door.
Tao Wenwen glanced at him, not knowing what he was going to do.
"Is your uncle all right?" she asked, adding, "We were going to look for a pair of needles together, but we searched for ages and couldn't find any."
"How about I take you to the town today to have a look?" Zhang Kongming said, "There's an old Chinese medicine doctor in the town, but he's old now and doesn't see patients anymore. I saw him pricking people with a long, shiny needle when I was a kid. How about we go and ask him?"
Tao Wenwen asked, "Do you know the place?"
"Of course." Zhang Kongming promised, "I will definitely bring it to you."
Tao Wenwen responded yes.
"Okay, I'll go tell Wen Kang and ask him to drive the cows out tonight." Zhang Kongming said. He caught a glimpse of the apples on the table beside him. The sweet smell penetrated his nose and he swallowed hard.
Tao Wenwen noticed it and said, "Eat it yourself."
Zhang Kongming was too embarrassed to move.
Tao Wenwen went outside to get some meat and grabbed an apple for him. "Why are you being so shy, man? I don't have to be so polite here. Otherwise, don't come here."
Knowing that she was a straightforward person, Zhang Kongming picked up the apple and washed it with water from the water tank in the house. He took a bite and felt the crispness and sweetness of the apple. His eyes were smiling because of the delicious taste.
"Thank you!"
Seeing that Tao Wenwen couldn't cut the dried meat, Zhang Kongming went back to the kitchen, bit the apple in his mouth, and snatched the knife from her hand, "Let me do it."
Tao Wenwen cut the stone-like meat into slices easily in Zhang Kongming's hands.
"This kind of thing still needs a man." Zhang Kongming cut a third of it and looked up at Tao Wenwen, "Have you seen enough?"
Seeing his eyes shining again, Tao Wenwen simply said, "Cut half a piece. Come over for lunch. There will only be vegetables, so remember to bring your own steamed buns."

The air-dried meat was already coated with salt, so she didn't add any seasonings and just stewed it slowly over low heat.
By the time Zhang Kongming came over with two steamed buns, her pot of food had just been cooked and served on the table.
The aroma of meat could be smelled before entering the yard. Zhang Kongming carried two steamed buns and a small bag of potatoes in one hand and put them in Tao Wenwen's kitchen. "We have too many potatoes at home, so bring some over."
Tao Wenwen knew that he also didn't like to take advantage of others, so he didn't say much and called him to the table to eat together.
