Chapter 2 Wait a minute

The wound was checked, cleaned and disinfected, cleaned and trimmed to remove foreign objects, necrotic tissue was cut off, and finally the wound was sutured.

After the whole process, it was already dusk outside. Even though Tao Wenwen was very experienced, his entire back was still wet with sweat.

She let out a breath and returned to her house through the backyard door.

The man who was about to become her "new father" was sitting in the living room and had not left yet. Her stepmother was peeling an apple for him, her face red and her head lowered, looking like a shy little wife.

Tao Wenwen glanced at them, who were flirting with each other, and returned to the storage room with the clock in her arms, expressionless.

The young man who was thought to have fainted from the pain was actually awake at this moment. When he saw her come in, he struggled to sit up.

"I spent three hours in surgery, and the back pain hasn't subsided yet. Don't give me another three hours, or I promise I won't help!"

Tao Wenwen walked over and pushed him back onto the bed, holding his arm while looking at the clock and counting his pulse.

"I..." The young man was about to speak, but just as he opened his mouth, he spat out a mouthful of black blood.

Tao Wenwen jumped to the side like a rabbit and dodged.

"That was a close call," she muttered. "It almost splashed all over me."

The young man looked at her with dark and unclear eyes.

"Where am I?" he finally asked.

Two drops of blood splashed on the clock, and Tao Wenwen pulled the corner of the bed sheet and wiped it off with all her strength.

"The storage room of Tao Wenwen's house." she said.

The clock became clear again, and her frown relaxed.

"I'm asking...where am I?" The young man's face turned pale because of the tearing of the wound.

He asked again with difficulty: "Address, location?"

"Is Tao Wenwen's home considered a place?" Tao Wenwen raised his eyes and looked at the young man.

The young man lay back on the narrow bed dejectedly, thinking to himself, is this a fool?

Tao Wenwen looked at the clock, counted the boy's pulse again, and shrugged, saying, "Don't ask. I just don't know."

The young man turned to look at her, "You saved me?"

"The pulse is normal." Tao Wenwen withdrew her hand from taking the pulse.

She did not answer the young man, but took the clock back to her room and put it back to its original position exactly.

The man who was about to become her "new father" was sitting upright in the living room. He had already held her stepmother's hand, and the two were leaning against each other, whispering to each other.

Tao Wenwen returned to the utility room in a daze and saw the young man lying on the head of the bed vomiting blood for the second time.

She pulled the jar of ants out of her pocket.

"I'm going to Mr. Zhang's house to exchange for food. You wait a moment, don't die." She didn't even look at the young man, as if she was talking to the air.

The young man collapsed on the bed, exhausted.

He turned his head to look at the door, but Tao Wenwen was gone.

The clock in the house ticked away, and it was dark. Mother Tao had already tied on an apron and started busying herself in the kitchen preparing dinner, while the man who was about to become Tao Wenwen's "new father" was helping her.

Tao Wenwen, who said to wait a moment and prevent the young man from dying, finally returned to the utility room when it was dark.

The utility room was pitch black and you couldn't see anything.

Tao Wenwen lit the candles.

She walked to the young man's bed and put her hand under his nose.

And breathing.

She took a deep breath, which had been unsteady from running, and crushed all the herbs she had picked on the road. She squeezed out the thick green juice, pinched the young man's mouth open, and poured it in at a gulp.
