Chapter 26 A Rebellious Spirit

"good!"

Kangxi, without the slightest disgust, took out his own handkerchief and gently wiped Harigana's cheeks, bit by bit.

"Your Majesty! I can do it myself!"

Harigana saw that Kangxi's silk handkerchief was soaked, blushed slightly, and wanted to take it to wipe himself, but Kangxi dodged it!

"Sit still! Don't move!"

Harigana froze instantly, because something seemed amiss beneath her.

She had never been in a relationship, but she had read romance novels. Moreover, in the hospital, there were nurses and doctors who would date. Sometimes they would secretly go on dates in the treatment room, and she would stand outside as a lookout.

She didn't really want to do it, but doing so would give her a chance to go downstairs for some fresh air, so she had no choice but to do it.

"Jiaojiao! It wasn't for nothing that you studied the drawing books!"

Kangxi was unaware that Harigana was a time traveler, so seeing that she understood his words and dared not move, he teased her in a low, hoarse voice.

"I don't!"

Harigana immediately retorted, but only after speaking did he realize he had fallen into Harigana's trap. His statement was utterly blatantly obvious; if he had said, "I don't know what you're talking about," he could at least have salvaged the situation!

But this sentence was something I understood without a doubt, and I understood it instantly!

"Okay, okay! You didn't! Jiaojiao didn't!"

Kangxi finally managed to coax the little girl to stop crying. If she started crying again, he might really not be able to resist eating her. She was just too delicate.

"Your Majesty! It's time for me to go!"

Harigana didn't know if it was because she had cried out all her frustrations, or if the medicine she had taken before lunch had really worked, but she felt much better now.

Emperor Kangxi held the little figure tightly in his arms, reluctant to let go.

"Wait until dinner before you leave. You can rest here for a while!"

Harigana shook her head in refusal, but the large hand around her waist held her tightly, preventing her from moving an inch.

"emperor!"

Just as Harigana was about to argue his case, Li Dequan called out from outside the screen, "Your Majesty!"

Li Dequan's expression was not good. The people who had just gone out to investigate had returned, and he wondered if the Emperor would be angry when he found out.

"What is it?"

Kangxi showed no intention of leaving, and Harigana immediately dared not move. If Li Dequan saw anything, she would lose all face!

"Your Majesty! The men who went out to investigate have returned!"

Li Dequan wasn't sure if the Emperor would let that ancestor know about this, so he only said that and didn't dare to say anything more!

Although Harigana was in a daze in the morning, she still heard Kangxi's restrained words: "Investigate." Now Li Dequan probably knows who poisoned her!

Kangxi had already guessed who it was, but he couldn't be sure. Li Dequan, that old man, knew him well; his hesitation and reluctance to speak further suggested it was someone connected to him.

Thinking this, Kangxi's heart sank, and he loosened his grip on Harrigana, wanting to go out and deal with the matter.

"Can't I listen?"

After Harigana realized Kangxi's intentions, she tugged at his collar, looking at him with a pitiful expression. Her beautiful eyes were full of curiosity, making it impossible for Kangxi to refuse.

"Speak!"

After some thought, he decided to let the little girl hear the truth. Such things were bound to happen once she entered the palace. He was certain he could protect her, but Harigana herself would also need to be vigilant.

Li Dequan understood and promoted Harigana's rank again. Which concubine in the palace didn't obey him obediently? Even the boldest Mongolian concubines wouldn't dare speak to the Emperor like that.

"Your Majesty! The investigation has been completed. A Khorchin man saw someone dressed as a palace maid sneaking towards the princess's tent. I have sent people to look for her, but the palace maid has vanished without a trace."

Kangxi's face darkened, and his grip on Harrigana tightened unconsciously. The latter groaned in pain, and Kangxi realized his mistake and loosened his grip slightly, but still held her tightly.

"Continue the investigation! Find out the truth for me!"

Hearing the Emperor's gloomy voice, Li Dequan shrank back, wondering who had done such a thing. The princess hadn't even entered the palace yet, and they were already trying to deal with her back home—they must be thinking they're living too comfortably!

"Yes, Your Majesty! This servant obeys the decree!"

After Li Dequan left, the two remained silent for a while.

In the end, Harigana couldn't stand the quiet atmosphere and felt very depressed.

"emperor!"

Kangxi snapped out of his reverie, looked at Harigana who seemed hesitant to speak, suppressed his anger, and asked gently, "Hmm! What's wrong?"

Harigana glanced at Kangxi secretly, then struggled to get down. Kangxi, fearing he might hurt her, let her down.

Unexpectedly, the little person in his arms knelt down on the ground, which startled Kangxi. "Jiaojiao, what are you doing?" He tried to pull her up, but Harigana dodged Kangxi's outstretched hand.

"emperor!"

Harigana looked up at Kangxi, then closed his eyes and boldly said, "Your Majesty, you have so many people in your harem, why do you insist on having me accompany you?"

I grew up on the grasslands and never experienced any deceit or treachery, nor did anything like what happened today.

"Your Majesty, this servant was born on the grasslands and is accustomed to a life of freedom. Could you please spare this servant?"

Because Harigana had his eyes closed, he didn't see Kangxi's increasingly dark face. He continued, "Your Majesty! This servant is willing to remain unmarried for the rest of his life, only begging Your Majesty to allow this servant to stay on the grasslands!"

Kangxi made no move, but Harigana heard his heavy breathing, which meant he must be furious.

"Harigana! Have I been too gentle with you? Hmm?"
