Chapter 33 The Stupid Cat
Just as they were leaving, Junlan discovered that her cell phone was missing.
Uncle San: "Look again, maybe you lost it somewhere?"
Second Uncle: "You'll know if you call her cell phone."
Uncle San quickly dialed Junlan's number, and the ringtone came from the single sofa.
Jun Lan finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Luckily it fell here, otherwise I wouldn't know where to find it."
Jun Lan quickly dug her hand into the sofa cushion but still couldn't find any trace of the phone. It turned out that there was a big hole in the sofa and the phone had fallen into it. Otherwise, she would have found it when she got up just now.
She put her hand deep inside and dug around, and finally she dug out the phone.
Sha Diao felt that his territory was invaded again, and started howling again.
At this moment, Jun Lan actually saw half of a person's palm bones inside the sofa.
This scene frightened Jun Lan so much that her legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground.
She was so frightened that she couldn't even speak clearly, and just pointed at the sofa to signal her uncle to go and take a look.
Uncle San, a strong and sturdy Shandong man, was also frightened after watching it. He pointed at the sofa and asked: "Second brother, what is going on? Did you do this?"
The second uncle came over and took a look, then said calmly: "I thought it was some big deal, look how scared you are. It's just a few bones. I live in a mass grave. The reason why this cat is called Sha Diao is because it loves to pick up bones there. Last time it even came back with a skull in its mouth! I'm used to it. Isn't it better to throw these away? Why are you so nervous?" After saying that, he picked up the half palm bone and threw it to the open space outside.
Second Aunt had just finished her farm work and came back from the fields. When she saw the bones in the empty field, she got angry and said, "How many times have I told you, old man, to throw them far away? Otherwise, the idiot will find them and pick them up again. Wouldn't that be a waste of time?"
Second Uncle sighed, "It's better to do useless work than to be mistaken for a psychopathic killer! Last time, I was arrested for this very thing and taken to the police station for questioning for a long time."
Second Aunt: "We're so unlucky to live here. No wonder the neighbors don't want to interact with us anymore."
She walked into the house angrily and found her uncle and Jun Lan.
"Third brother, what brings you here? Who is this?"
Third Uncle: "Second sister-in-law, this is the eldest brother's only daughter, Junlan. She came to visit us during her limited time on business."
Second Aunt rolled her eyes at him and said, "What's so good about poor relatives from a remote village? It would be more practical to send some money."
Second Aunt didn't greet them, but turned the sofa inside and out, only finding some teeth and bones.
The sand sculpture found that almost all of his treasures had been dug out, and he was so angry that he started yelling wildly. Second Aunt was dizzy from his yelling, so she picked him up and threw him out of the room.
"Why did I raise a jerk like you? Other people raise lucky cats that bring valuable things home every day, but you're a jerk. Not only do you live and eat for free, you can't even catch a mouse, let alone act cute. You just cause us trouble."
Second Uncle: "Don't blame it. The people buried here are all poor ghosts. How can you expect it to dig out any treasure for you?"
Second Aunt was still cleaning the sofa. Just when she was about to turn the sofa upside down, she took out a demon-subduing pestle.
Jun Lan's eyes lit up immediately when she saw the demon-subduing pestle, and she asked anxiously, "Second Aunt, what is that thing you are holding in your hand?"
"Oh, this is the demon-subduing pestle. I guess you young people haven't heard of it. It was brought out when the family split up, so it's quite old. Living in a place like this, if we didn't have these things, we would have been haunted by thousands of ghosts a long time ago. I thought it was gone, but it turns out that this bad cat hid it here."
Jun Lan: "Second Aunt, this thing looks interesting. I want this demon-subduing pestle. Can you give it to me?"
Second Aunt: "Our family's safety depends on it. If I give it to you, what will we do?"
"Second Aunt, of course I will compensate you for this. One thousand, is that enough? You can use the money to buy a bunch of demon-subduing pestles and put them in every corner of your home."
"If you say you're a child and don't understand, then you don't understand. New things are never as good as old ones."
Second Aunt wasn't stupid. When she heard the asking price was a thousand, she knew Jun Lan really wanted the demon-subduing pestle. She figured that city dwellers made money more easily than rural dwellers, and they were often stupid and clueless. Since Jun Lan wanted it, she might as well take advantage of the opportunity to make a killing.
Jun Lan thought to herself, "You old bitch, I only offered a thousand dollars for my dad and Third Uncle's sake. Do you really think I'm a sucker in town? You want to ask for more, right? Well, I'll play along for a bit and whet your appetite."
"Second Aunt is right. Old is worse than new. I was just clamoring for it just now because I was a child. Second Aunt really needs it more than I do. What is more important than safety? It's getting late. The roads in the village will be difficult to travel after dark. Then Third Uncle and I will go back first."
Junlan's tactic of retreating to advance confused Second Aunt. As the saying goes, if you try to steal a chicken, you will lose the rice. Seeing that the one thousand yuan that was about to be in her hands flew away like a cooked duck, she was really unwilling to accept it.
She quickly changed her words: "Oh, my niece, you came all the way here to visit us. I didn't prepare anything for you to take back to this rural area. It's rare that you like this kind of little thing, so one thousand is one thousand, take it! I'll consider it a gift from you, Second Aunt."
Jun Lan: "How can this be? How can I, a junior, ask my elders to give up their love? Besides, if something really happens, I won't be able to take the responsibility."
Second Aunt was speechless and stunned by the refutation.
Now it was Uncle Two's turn to take action.
"Niece, what your second aunt just said is simply a common problem among rural women: long hair and short knowledge. Those are all feudal superstitions that should have been abolished during the Cultural Revolution. They can't be passed down to harm the next generation. I really don't want to part with them, after all, they are things left by our ancestors. But since you are my niece, one thousand is one thousand. Take it. It's rare that you like it."
Seeing that they were almost done playing, Jun Lan also agreed: "Since Second Uncle and Second Aunt have said so, it would seem that I am being awkward if I refuse. Thank you."
Jun Lan picked up the demon-subduing pestle, gave them one thousand yuan, turned around and left her hometown with her uncle.
On the way back to the city, Uncle San kept nagging Junlan, blaming her for spending a thousand yuan to buy this thing. Junlan just smiled and said nothing.
As the saying goes, love is more precious than money, Uncle San.
After returning to City Z, Jun Lan lay on her bed with a facial mask on, listening to songs and recalling what had happened in the past few days. It felt like she was living in a dream, both real and magical.
She couldn't help but take out her passbook again. When she saw the extra zeros at the end, she couldn't contain her excitement and laughed out loud.
But she could not hide the regret in her eyes. The man who said he would marry her if he had 100,000 yuan was still out of touch. Even his best friend said that he hadn't received his WeChat in a long time. It was as if he had never existed in this world and disappeared.
Saying we can still be friends after we meet again is just nonsense. Jun Lan became angrier and angrier as she thought about it. She tore off her mask, turned off the music, and fell asleep.
