Chapter 19: The Doctoral Student Who Betrayed His Country

In the ocean, an aircraft carrier is drifting on the sea.

"Commander, we haven't found any land ahead and we've lost our way again."

"Keep exploring. Don't stop sending messages to headquarters."

The chief's lips were pale and covered with dead skin.

It has been half a month, and this voyage mission should have ended seven days ago.

Suddenly losing satellite positioning, they were lost at sea.

The food and fresh water they brought with them were almost used up. If they couldn't contact the headquarters or find new resources, they were afraid that everyone on this ship would be killed at sea.

After five days, even though they were saving, they had eaten everything they could, and now most of their food consisted of various fish and shrimps from the sea.

Many people contracted scurvy due to malnutrition, and fresh water was severely scarce.

Looking at the soldiers lying on the deck, who were barely breathing in or out, the commander staggered forward, his heart aching as if it was about to bleed.

These soldiers can die on the battlefield, but they cannot die so quietly in the sea.

"Chief," the guard next to him was also so weak that he could only support his body with a wooden stick, "let's go back." Save some energy.

"Let me take another look at them. It's my fault I couldn't bring them back."

The guard was a little excited. "Captain, how is this your fault? This is clearly a tactic used by those shameless Americans to force us to submit!"

"Cough cough!" He had been dehydrated for two days, and his hands and throat were dry and coughing up blood. "I'm your leader. It's my responsibility that I can't take you back."

He walked to the open space on the deck and slowly sat down, holding the wooden stick on his right hand.

He looked at the seagulls in the sky and laughed at himself, "I never thought that after a lifetime of military service, I would end up dying quietly in this damn place."

The atmosphere was extremely sad, and everyone was feeling hopeless. Suddenly, someone shouted loudly:

"Chief!"

"Chief! We've contacted headquarters!"

The chief's somewhat gray eyes suddenly gleamed with brilliance, and he roared hoarsely, "Damn it! I knew that God would not let me go!"

Aircraft carrier 0683 successfully docked after contacting headquarters.

Everyone who stepped on land felt grateful for having survived the disaster.

Just when they thought they were doomed, they unexpectedly saw a ray of hope.

Chief Li still feels a little dazed. When did their country have its own satellite?

Isn’t the reason they were trapped at sea for almost a month because they lost satellite positioning and couldn’t determine their direction?

"Old Li, you old fellow has saved his life."

After getting off the boat, Commander Li had recovered most of his strength after replenishing his nutrition. He slapped the other man on the shoulder with his palm as big as a palm fan:

"Hey, I, Old Li, am just tough. God won't take me away!"

"I say, when did we get our own satellite? We're the navy, so logically we should be the first to know. If we hadn't narrowly escaped death this time, they wouldn't have kept it from us, would they?"

"Old Li, you guys really narrowly escaped death this time. Finding an aircraft carrier in that vast ocean is as difficult as climbing to the sky."

"I don't know the specific situation, but that satellite is indeed ours!"

"You just came back and don't know yet. Go back and read the newspaper. Our country has its own satellite. This kind of thing will never happen again!"

Old Li slapped his thigh in shock. "Damn it! Those scholars are really the best!" He chuckled.

"Great! China will have its own satellites now, so we don't have to worry about the shameless US spying on us every day. If they dare to spy on us in the future, we can still spy back!"

He looked around, leaned in close and whispered, "Could this satellite have been developed by Comrade An Jingzhi from the Nuclear Submarine Laboratory?"

"You kid," the other person looked at him in surprise, "can you tell fortunes with your fingers? You haven't even read the newspaper yet, have you? How did you know so quickly?"

Old Li himself was also very surprised, "Did I guess right?"

The other party nodded.

"Actually, I'm just guessing. After Comrade An Jingzhi returned to China, our relationship with the United States has become increasingly tense."

"Anyone with a discerning eye can see that the Americans cherish our Comrade An Jingzhi. Otherwise, why would they keep an eye on him every day? They bring him up every now and then. Aren't they unwilling to accept this?"

"Old Li, you're really a man of great skill. You actually guessed it right this time."

"Comrade An Jingzhi had long guessed the Americans' tactics. That satellite was developed by Comrade An Jingzhi and his students during their downtime. Do you know how long they rested in ten days? Less than twenty hours."

"Originally, we wouldn't have launched it so early, but after this incident, we launched it in advance to intimidate the Americans and show them our strength. We want them to know that China can still thrive without the Americans!"

"The old factory director is back!"

"Old Factory Director! Jing Zhi has brought honor to our country again!"

"Old Factory Director, when will Jingzhi come back?"

"You're stupid! Those Americans are watching Jingzhi every day. They must be unwilling to see him get any better. What if he gets caught when he comes back?"

"Hey, do you think the security department in our factory is just there to eat and do nothing?"

"Okay, stop arguing. I will come back when it's time." Grandma Zhu said calmly.

Grandma Zhu's figure gradually walked away, while the workers in the factory were still talking about it.

From An Jingzhi's treason to his fame, to his coming to China for academic exchanges, and then his instant reversal of identity, each and every one of these events is worth talking about with relish among these workers.
