"Mom, did you hear the footsteps outside?" An's father, who was sitting on the sofa next to him, suddenly stood up.
"I, your mother, am not deaf yet." Grandma An stood up and walked towards the door.
"Mom, why are you walking so fast? Didn't you tell me a few days ago that your feet were uncomfortable and asked me to go out to buy groceries these days?" An Chengcai quickly stood up and followed over, wanting to support Grandma An, but was pushed away by her.
"You lie paralyzed at home every day and are almost as lazy as a maggot. If I don't tell you to, how can you move?" Grandma An said without turning her head.
Just as she put her hand on the doorknob, there was a knock on the door. She opened the door quickly and saw a familiar face.
Her eyes couldn't help but turn red, and her voice was choked: "Jingzhi, grandma's good grandson is back."
An Jingzhi smiled brightly, opened his arms and hugged the little old lady.
"Grandma, I'm back."
"Okay, okay, I'm glad you're back." Grandma An wiped her tears and hugged her eldest grandson who made her proud.
The neighbors living nearby are all retired workers from the factory.
Everyone knows that she has an eldest grandson who was taken away by the country to be raised at a very young age. Grandma An is also proud of her grandson from the bottom of her heart.
Everything was fine, except that she felt that her grandson seemed to be getting less and less close to her.
She had only one daughter and one son in her life. After her husband died, her daughter married far away and her son married her daughter-in-law, who then died of complications during childbirth. She raised her grandson single-handedly.
The grandfather and grandson were very close when they were young.
She should be happy that her grandson has made progress, but she still can't help feeling sad.
The original owner had not returned home many times in these years. This time, An Jingzhi took the initiative to go home during the holidays, and his tone was cordial.
Grandma An felt very warm in her heart.
"Grandma, I've been too busy these years and haven't had time to come back to see you. I happened to have some time recently so I came back to see you and my dad. Are you in good health?"
He helped Grandma An back to the living room and sat on the sofa.
Under An Chengcai's surprised gaze, Grandma An pretended to be weak and let her grandson support her as she walked to the living room. "Well, it's the same as when you get older. Normally, I'm fine, but sometimes I feel discomfort in my legs and feet."
Before An Jingzhi could say anything, Ye Jiancheng immediately said, "Why don't we go to the hospital for a full body checkup?"
Grandma An quickly shook her head when she heard this. "No, no, that's just how it is when you get older. Why go to the hospital? Isn't that a waste of money?"
Ye Jiancheng had been in contact with the An family and had a general idea of their habits. He took the initiative to explain, "It's okay, Grandma An. Xiao An has a free medical checkup quota provided by the government, and it can be reimbursed. It would be a waste if you don't go."
Grandma An still refused, "I don't need to go, I know whether I am in good health or not." She was just pretending, wouldn't she be exposed if she went to the hospital?
Grandma An saw that her grandson suddenly became very close, so she wanted to show weakness and let her grandson say a few more nice and caring words.
He pointed at An Chengcai, who was sitting next to him. "He really needs to go to the hospital for a checkup. He doesn't leave the house every day. He's even lazier than an old man like me. I think there must be something wrong with him."
"Xiao Ye, if Jingzhi has a free checkup spot, then take him there. Don't waste it."
Before An Chengcai could even say a word to his son, he was inexplicably accused of being in poor health.
"Mom, what's wrong with me?" An Chengcai said with a frustrated look on his face. "I'm retired now. I can't even stay home if I don't want to go out?"
"Look at your body. You look so old. If we go out, people will think we are sisters."
Grandma An said impatiently, "Don't be stubborn. I'll let Xiaoye take you for a checkup later. You're so old and still playing games and getting nearsighted. I'll be embarrassed if I tell anyone about it."
An Chengcai, an old man in his sixties, could only sit aside feeling aggrieved and dared not say anything.
Ye Jiancheng pursed his lips and smiled: "Don't worry, Grandma An, I will arrange it later."
Although Grandma An's hair was gray, she looked energetic, clear-minded and articulate, just like the capable old lady he remembered.
An Jingzhi looked at An Chengcai carefully and then at Grandma An.
It's really hard to tell that they are two generations.
I didn’t expect that his father has become an internet addict at his old age.
Grandma An saw An Jingzhi's gaze fall on An Chengcai, and grabbed her grandson's hand with some dissatisfaction.
"Jingzhi, tell grandma how you're doing." Suddenly remembering her grandson's special job, she paused and said, "Just tell me what you can."
Ever since the state discovered her grandson's unusualness at the age of six, he stayed with her on and off until he was ten years old.
Later I went to the capital and basically didn't go home for several years.
Grandma An doesn’t know what her grandson is doing specifically, she only knows that the country values her grandson very much.
"Why did you decide to come back so suddenly?"
She glanced at Ye Jiancheng, who looked calm, and thought that her grandson should not have gotten into trouble.
"I just missed you suddenly. What's the matter, grandma, don't you want me to come back?" He looked at the little old lady with rolling eyes and said with a smile.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Grandma An patted the back of An Jingzhi's hand gently and said, "If you don't want to talk, then don't talk."
She figured it wasn't a big deal. "It's not dinner time yet. Grandma bought a lot of food today. I'll make whatever you want!"
Ye Chengcai muttered softly, "It was obviously me who bought the vegetables."
Grandma An glared at him, and An Jingzhi pretended not to see their lawsuit.
