Chapter 13: The Doctoral Student Who Betrayed His Country

After the embarrassing incident of losing the pen, Jonah was scolded by his immediate boss.

He was full of grievances. Not only did he have to serve An Jingzhi, a Chinese man with a fickle mood, but he was also criticized by his boss.

Every time I see An Jingzhi, he always looks resentful.

An Jingzhi always pretended not to see it and told him to let his maid clean the house.

The incident of losing the pen was still very useful. At least the maid sent by Jonah would definitely not touch the place where An Jingzhi ordered it not to be touched.

"Ann, before we go to the nuclear submarine laboratory, there is one more thing you need to do."

When Jonah discovered at the nuclear submarine laboratory that An Jingzhi's nationality was not the United States, he was again made the scapegoat and was severely scolded.

The importance of the nuclear submarine experiment is different from that of the steam catapult.

One is the core weapon strike technology, and the other is just a technology that can be regarded as icing on the cake to enhance combat effectiveness.

Even without steam catapults, the United States' aircraft carrier fighters are still in the leading position.

But nuclear submarine technology is different. Strategic nuclear submarines can carry various air strike weapons, such as missiles and drones, to achieve all-round strikes from deep sea to air.

This strike method has the advantages of being highly concealed and difficult to interfere with, and can be used to strike enemy aircraft, drones and other targets.

Even a big country like the United States can only watch helplessly if it does not have strong enough interception technology.

"I heard you haven't become a US citizen yet," said another man who came with Jonah. "I came here specifically to assist you with this matter."

Originally, Jonah didn't need to come, but as An Jingzhi's best "friend" here, he was also arranged to come to prevent accidents.

"Ann," Jonah said with an exaggerated look of joy, "If you join my country, we will truly be one family!"

An Jingzhi's face was gloomy, and he asked, "Qiona, I didn't expect that after so many years of getting along with each other, you still haven't considered me as your own?"

Jonah's heart skipped a beat. Damn it.

As expected, An Jingzhi continued with a depressed look on his face, "I never thought I'd consider you my best friend, but you've always treated me like an outsider?"

"I joined Husson University to teach and educate, and joined the laboratory to improve weapons. Yet, in your eyes, I'm not even considered one of you?"

"Jonah..." An Jingzhi looked extremely sad, covering his heart and completely ignoring the third person from the Administration.

Jonah was frightened by his appearance and his face changed drastically. He immediately waved his hands and explained anxiously: "No, no, no! You misunderstood, I definitely didn't mean that. In my heart, you are definitely my best friend." He looked at An Jingzhi and seemed to have something else to say, and immediately added: "No doubt about it!"

He saw that An Jingzhi's expression had eased slightly, but he was still worried and explained carefully:

"I became a US citizen for security reasons. An, you're also a researcher, so you should be aware of the confidentiality of certain projects."

"Of course I do."

"That's good. The nuclear submarine laboratory's request for your U.S. citizenship was based entirely on security and confidentiality issues."

He pointed to the person next to him and said, "He is in charge of this matter."

The person from the Administration looked at the two of them with numbness. He didn't expect An Jingzhi's reaction to be so big. If he hadn't been warned before coming, he would never have had such good patience to wait for the two of them to explain.

So many people try their best just to get a green card, but the man in front of me doesn't cherish it at all.

"Mr. An--" He was interrupted by An Jingzhi before he could finish his words.

"Stop talking about it. No matter what, I will never become a US citizen."

The man in front of him suddenly changed his expression, and Jonah looked confused.

He thought that the other party was willing to stay because he yearned for the life here. If he wanted to continue staying here, he should not be opposed to joining the United States. Why did he look so determined not to do so?

"Ann, may I know the reason?"

The original owner stayed for the sake of scientific research freedom, and now he can use it as an excuse.

"I'm willing to stay here because I can better display my abilities here. You told me before that scientists have no national boundaries. Does my American citizenship affect my talents?"

"My grandmother and mother couldn't understand me to begin with. If they knew I had become a US citizen, I swear, Jonah, I would completely lose both of my relatives."

"Do you want me to be lonely and homeless?"

Jonah was silent. He didn't expect that the excuse he used to persuade the other party to stay would become the reason to block him today.

"This, An, is subject to confidentiality. Only by becoming a US citizen can you access deeper research," he said dryly.

An Jingzhi waved his hand, "Stop talking. We have a saying in China that gold shines wherever it is."

"If they don't want me to join, that's their loss!"

"No matter what my nationality is, it will never affect my ability."

"If I'm not allowed into the nuclear submarine laboratory, then I'll just consider all my previous contributions to be in vain."

This was a bit serious. If Jonah hadn't been watching, the man next to him would have rushed out.

An Jingzhi naturally had to go to the nuclear submarine laboratory, which was currently the most suitable place for him to continue his next plan.
