Chapter 15 Marriage

"Four hundred and eighty plus a watch ticket."

Hearing the price, Liu Yun gasped. One watch was enough to buy a job; she couldn't afford it even after a year of working. "Too expensive, let's get a different one!"

"This one, this one looks good." After saying that, he paid for the money and the ticket.

"Your partner is quite nice."

"yes."

"I ordered a women's bicycle last time, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll deliver it to you when it arrives."

"Don't you already have one? Why are you buying another one?"

"You can't ride it, right? Ladies' bicycles are shorter, so you can ride them."

"Fine, don't send it over there, just put it in the tenement courtyard!"

"Let's go take a look at the sewing machine." After saying that, he pulled Liu Yun away.

"Why would I buy that? I don't know how."

“My sister-in-law and the others all have them, so you must have them too. Don’t you like pretty clothes? You can make as many as you want from now on if you can make them yourself.”

Liu Yun thought about it and agreed, "Wait a minute, it's not convenient to take it now, let's talk about it later!"

"Okay. Let's go look at some more clothes!" After saying that, he pulled Liu Yun and walked towards the ready-to-wear section.

"Comrade, could you show me that red woolen overcoat?"

Liu Yun was completely taken aback. "I already have two coats, why would I buy another wool coat?"

"This one's red," Yu Qianhe said, paying without hesitation. Finally, Liu Yun pulled a still-wanting Yu Qianhe out of the department store. They say when a Taurus falls in love with you, she'll spend money on you relentlessly, and now she believes it.

At the end of November, there was a frost, and Yu's mother accidentally fell. Fortunately, she was not injured, but less than a week later, Yu's mother suddenly retired.

Yu's mother was a bit older than Liu's mother, already in her fifties, while Liu's mother was only forty-five.

When Yu's mother mentioned retiring, her supervisor readily agreed, and the matter was settled within a few days. Now that the college entrance examination has been canceled, everyone is fighting tooth and nail for every position. How could the supervisor not be happy to have a vacancy?

Nowadays, a job is considered a secure job, and if a family member takes over, it's essentially like taking over the position, and both spouses' household registrations would need to be changed. But retirement is different; retirees receive a monthly pension.

I was a little surprised when I heard Yu Qian say that, but I didn't think much of it, and I wasn't envious anymore.

Time flew by and it was already December 6th; the two of them were going to get their marriage certificate.

As Liu's mother watched Liu Yun pull out the household registration book from the box, she couldn't help but sigh. But when she glanced at the things on the table out of the corner of her eye—two jin of meat, two jin of brown sugar, two bottles of wine, and four packs of cigarettes—she couldn't stop smiling. Such a generous gift of gifts represented the groom's high regard for the bride.

Actually, she kept her household registration booklet in her spatial storage; looking for it in the box was just for show. She didn't feel comfortable leaving such an important item at home because there was a female lead at home who was worried about her work.

With their household registration booklets and the letter of introduction obtained yesterday, the couple arrived at the marriage registration office of the subdistrict office a little over half an hour later. They handed over the letter of introduction and the marriage application report. The clerk glanced at the couple, then stamped the official seal heavily and wished them a long and happy marriage and many children.

"Thank you, thank you." Yu Qianhe handed over a few candies, holding the freshly issued marriage certificate with great excitement.

Looking at the certificate-like piece of paper, she still felt a little unreal. They went to have their photos taken; taking photos these days was really expensive—40 cents for a 5-inch half-body photo and 50 cents for a full-body photo. They got both single and double photos.

"This is the receipt. Come back in a week with this ticket to pick up the photos." The shop owner looked at the well-off young couple and offered several words of blessing.

At this time, getting married meant receiving a marriage certificate, which allowed you to buy two jin of peanuts and melon seeds and two jin of sugar. The certificate would expire if not used, so Liu Yun bought all of her share.

When they arrived at the cloth shop, Yu Qianhe was too tired to walk anymore and wanted to buy cloth to make clothes for his wife.

Nowadays, the fabrics are mostly either solid colors or patterned. Solid colors are mostly black, cyan, and blue. Bright colors like red and pink aren't on display; most of them are sold internally, and when they are occasionally brought out, they sell out instantly. Besides, although Liu Yun's clothes can't compare to those of the 21st century, she already has several sets, and her mother is already complaining that she's being wasteful.

But Yu Qianhe wouldn't listen. "Hello comrade, could you bring that pink checkered cloth so we can take a look?"

The saleswoman, a middle-aged woman in her forties, looked at the couple and smiled, saying, "You two just got married, right? You have excellent taste, sir. Your wife looks good in pink plaid, she's young."

"I want the pink checkered one, six feet long. And the white floral one, six feet long too."

She bought another piece of homespun cloth with light blue and white checks and red checks. This was what Liu Yun wanted herself; she preferred homespun cloth for making thick clothes compared to the others. Sure enough, when she got home, her mother scolded her for being a spendthrift.

On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, Liu Yun got up at the crack of dawn. Liu Jing had returned the night before, and the two of them slept in their old room, while Liu Aidang went to sleep in the living room again.

She wore a high-necked red sweater, a gift from Liu Jing last night, black pants and black leather shoes, and a red woolen overcoat given to her by Yu Qianhe. She styled her hair in two French braids and added a wispy fringe to her forehead.

"Here you go, pencil, lipstick, and matches."

As usual, I did my eyebrows, lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, and curled my eyelashes all in one go.

"Tsk tsk, it looks really good with that red coat."

"Would you like one?"

"I'll just forget about you getting married!"

"Let me braid a single strand for you; mine is two strands."

"OK."

People started arriving before eight o'clock. Nowadays, simple weddings are preferred, so there weren't many ceremonies. The wedding procession consisted of six bicycles and a jeep, which was quite impressive. They set off from the Liu family home at 9:18 sharp and arrived at the Yu family home in a grand procession.

The simplified wedding process was something Liu Yun was very familiar with. It wasn't that her marriage to Liu Jing was completely unrelated; in fact, it was exactly the same.

After the ceremony, candy was distributed to neighbors, relatives, friends, and children. Amidst the children's laughter and the polite blessings from those around them, the event ended, and they headed towards the state-run restaurant.

The Yu family has more interpersonal relationships, so they set up a total of eight tables.

On their wedding night, Liu Yun finally touched the abs she had always dreamed of. Who could have imagined that after nearly six months of dating, the first month had only involved holding hands—no kissing or hugging at all, and even that kiss was initiated by Liu Yun? She had been craving those abs for ages, but Yu Qianhe wouldn't even let her see them, let alone touch them. Looking at his mischievous wife, Yu Qianhe hesitated for a moment, then carefully and tentatively continued pulling down…
