This year, the family plans to return to Xinshi for the Spring Festival. Liu Yun demolished and rebuilt the house by the river and also bought several houses around it.
It's now a proper riverside villa, and it's quite beautiful.
Summers here are very comfortable; you can hardly feel the heat. Winters outside, however, can be a bit chilly with the river breeze blowing.
This year, everyone came back for the Chinese New Year, and there were two more babies in the house. The parents looked much more energetic and kept doting on the two babies, who were not shy at all.
Mr. and Mrs. Yu often said that the house was full of life when there was a child, and Liu Yun really felt it at that moment.
Even after the five siblings got married and had children, their relationship remained good. Even if they hadn't seen each other for a long time, they didn't feel distant at all when they got together.
Beibei: "Xiaojin, what are your plans for the future? Do you plan to join a dance troupe abroad or return to China?"
When talking about her dream, Dangdang was still very enthusiastic: "Of course, I'll come back when I'm done playing. My goal is to join the national team, just you wait!"
Many dance troupes in China have already extended offers to her, and she has been considering them, but it's not the right time yet; she can wait until she graduates.
Tuantuan: "Where's Xiaohua?"
An'an: "I'll come back next year. It doesn't matter where I go to continue my studies, but I have a project that's quite important right now, and I want to come back to do it. I don't want it to benefit foreign countries."
Beibei: "That's a good idea. If you have any questions, feel free to ask."
An'an: "Don't worry!"
After chatting for a while, Tuantuan, Yuanyuan, and An'an went to the kitchen to help Yu Qianhe. There was no other way, since Yu Qianhe cooked the most in the family, and the three of them had been helping their father in the kitchen since they were little.
Actually, all five siblings are excellent cooks; it's just that Beibei and Dangdang don't cook much.
Liu Yun's initial requirement for them was that they must know how to do it, but whether they would actually do it later was another matter.
They were all very glad that they were good cooks, otherwise they didn't know if they would have been able to persevere during their studies abroad.
They were all picky eaters since childhood, and the food at home was always quite good, except for the occasional innovative dishes that Liu Yun would cook on a whim.
When they were studying abroad, they ate white food. They could tolerate it for the first few days, but within a week, they felt like throwing up at the sight of that food. At that time, the thing they were most grateful for was that they knew how to cook.
I was incredibly grateful to my parents for teaching me this skill, which allowed them to persevere through those years of studying abroad.
This year's Spring Festival was very lively. In the past, when Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan were in school, they would come back for the Spring Festival every year, no matter how far away they were.
But since starting work, there have been more and more times when people have no choice but to do what they're supposed to do. It's perfectly normal for people like them to not be able to come back for the Chinese New Year.
After the Lunar New Year this year, the elderly and young in my family didn't go out to play. We just strolled around Xinshi and spent time with our family at home.
On the second day of the Lunar New Year, both Yu Qianwen and Yu Qianyou's families came over, and the house suddenly became lively. Fortunately, the house was big enough that it wouldn't be as crowded as when they went back to Liu's house.
Originally, I planned to visit Liu's family on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year and leave on the sixth. But now there aren't so many customs anymore; it's not necessary to go back to my parents' home on the second day.
But plans can't keep up with changes. On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, before they even left the house, Liu Yun received a call from Liu Jing saying that her father was not doing well and probably wouldn't last more than a few days.
Although Liu Yun didn't pay much attention to the Liu family, she still had to go back at this time.
So everyone's schedule was interrupted, and they all went back to visit. When they arrived at Liu's house, they saw Liu's father lying on the bed, barely breathing.
Liu Yun frowned slightly. "Didn't you go to the hospital?"
Liu Jing: "I stayed in the hospital for more than a month. The doctor said there was not much use for me, so I came back before the New Year."
Liu Aiguo, who was standing next to Liu Yun, started mocking her again when he saw her like this.
Liu Aiguo: "Isn't this the third son? I heard he got a lot of money from the last demolition, maybe hundreds of thousands! Now that he's rich, he only cares about living a carefree life and doesn't even come back to visit his seriously ill father. He's really quite filial."
Hearing Liu Aiguo's words, Liu Yun felt inexplicably irritated. "Do you want to die?"
Yu Qianhe: "It seems you haven't learned your lesson from last time. You haven't learned anything. If you don't want this mouth, I can sew it back on for you. I guarantee this time you'll remember it deeply and won't forget it again."
Liu Aiguo shuddered at Yu Qianhe's words. Even though several years had passed, the pain from that incident was still fresh in his mind. There wasn't a single scar, yet he had been lying in bed in pain for over ten days.
He didn't want to go through that again, so he stayed quietly, not daring to utter a sound.
Liu Yun felt utterly disheartened by his pathetic state.
Liu Yun didn't say anything, but Tuantuan and Yuanyuan weren't going to let it go. His mother wasn't someone that just any Tom, Dick, or Harry could come and bark at.
Tuantuan: "My mom never stops giving my grandparents gifts and money every year during holidays and birthdays. Isn't that filial piety? I wonder how much money and gifts my uncle gives my grandparents every year! Let us take a look and follow his standards in the future!"
Yuanyuan: "Brother, what are you saying? Everyone knows that Uncle is a very filial son. He's so filial that Grandma kicked him out of the house and didn't recognize him as her son. By the way, if Grandma doesn't recognize him as her son, do we still need to call him Uncle?"
Beibei: "That's a good question. Who doesn't know that my uncle is the most filial son? When he was young, he took my mother's job and my sister's job. After he had children, he took money from my sister and my parents. Now that his children are grown up, he lives off them without a care in the world. He still comes to my parents' and my brother's house to freeload every now and then."
