Chapter 23 Confinement

After a week, the child's redness has faded and her skin has become fair and tender.

The children's nicknames have already been chosen: the eldest will be called Tuantuan, the second Yuanyuan, and the youngest Beibei.

Liu Yun is at home recovering from childbirth, and the busiest person is Yu's mother. Liu's mother has four children and is completely overwhelmed with work. Liu Jing is also about to give birth, also to twins. Every time Yu's mother sees this, she sighs at the Liu family's genes.

Yu Qianhe couldn't get leave, so his mother took care of all three children and the new mother. Now, Yu's father goes straight to the tenement after work.

As for the four children in the family who can't cook, their mother simply stopped indulging them. She said she wouldn't charge them any living expenses this month, and they could do whatever they wanted with themselves. They're already so old, yet they haven't gone to school or found jobs. They're always at home, either playing or running around outside.

Liu Jing could get fish from the food processing plant, and Xiao Zhihua would bring over a crucian carp every few days. Yu's mother would then use it to make crucian carp and tofu soup. After simmering for a long time, the crucian carp soup would turn a milky white color.

Every few days, Yu's father and Yu Qian would bring back a hen or a duck, so there was always soup in the house.

It was tough on the people in the compound. They ate coarse grain buns every day, but the smell of meat made them incredibly hungry.

The three Wang brothers in the compound had been standing at their door since the first day they smelled meat. After learning about the three brothers' deeds, their mother simply ignored them and closed the gate every time it was mealtime.

Seeing her beloved grandson being treated this way, Wang's wife would make sarcastic remarks and veiled insults every day in the courtyard. But ever since she saw Yu's father come here in a uniform, she dared not utter a word. Every time it was mealtime, she would grab the three boys and walk home, cursing as she went.

The Yu family simply ignored it, letting it go in one ear and out the other.

Cheng Ke also arrived, bringing three adorable tiger-head hats she had made herself, the embroidery exquisite. Even Mother Yu couldn't help but praise them, admiring them dearly. She knew this person would one day become a highly skilled embroidery master, her works worth a fortune.

Thinking of this, Mother Yu couldn't help but marvel at her youngest daughter-in-law's good fortune.

Seeing how much Yu's mother liked it, Cheng Ke embroidered a handkerchief for her, and of course, she didn't forget to embroider one for Liu Yun either.

It was during my conversation with Cheng Ke that I learned how much the three Wang brothers had been doing lately. Since Cheng Ke started embroidering and making clothes for Liu Jing, she had earned quite a bit of money. Her diet had improved after she became pregnant, and she ate meat every few days.

At first, the three Wang brothers would just stand at the door and stare intently. Liu Yun only gave them something once, but afterwards they came every day, stealing if they weren't given anything. If the Wang family mother-in-law and daughter-in-law didn't give them something, they would act sarcastic and pitiful, and if the three brothers were caught stealing, the Wang family mother-in-law and daughter-in-law would say they were framing them and trying to force them to their deaths. She was truly fed up with this family of oddballs, and to make matters worse, there was also the troublemaker Qin Fen, making it all the more annoying.

Hearing this, Liu Yun felt fortunate that she was staying at the Yu family's house at the time; otherwise, being disgusted by such a group of people would have ruined her mood, and one's mood during pregnancy cannot be too bad.

Despite eating well these days—one day it's crucian carp and tofu soup, the next day it's pig's feet stewed with soybeans, the day after tomorrow it's chestnut stewed chicken soup, and the day after that it's old duck soup—she hasn't gained any weight. In fact, she looks thinner because she's less swollen.

The three children, on the other hand, transformed from skinny, ruddy little monkeys into fair-skinned, adorable babies in a short period of time.

The three little ones even had chubby cheeks, and their little arms were like lotus root segments. You have to know that when they were born, they were only a tiny little thing, weighing less than five pounds, while Liu Jing's eldest son weighed a full six pounds and eight ounces at birth.

The three little ones have quite a big appetite. Luckily, Liu Yun eats well and there's always something to eat at home, otherwise, it's really hard to feed them all. Fortunately, apart from their big appetites, they're easy to take care of. The little ones don't cry much; they just eat and sleep, sleep and eat.

Seeing that Liu Yun couldn't gain weight, her mother even found her adult-grade milk powder, and gradually Liu Yun's complexion improved.

As expected, Yu's mother is very knowledgeable. Yu Qianhe was planning to wean the triplets by feeding them formula, but she didn't know anything about adult formula.

When Liu Yun learned that Yu's mother planned to keep him in confinement for more than forty days, she felt like she was going to rot.

Although her mother forbade her from touching raw water, she still made ginger water for her every few days so that she could wipe her body and soak her feet.

However, the benefits of a longer postpartum period are also evident. Although she has given birth, her figure is only slightly fuller than before pregnancy. But her complexion is even better than before, with a rosy glow.

Liu Yun only had 40 days of maternity leave, and she rushed back to work as soon as her postpartum confinement period was over.

Liu Yun would express her milk whenever she had a spare moment before going to work, asking her mother to heat it up for the baby while she was away. She did the same at lunchtime.

Everyone knows she just gave birth, so they never complain when she arrives a little later or leaves a little earlier. This is the kind of preferential treatment people give to breastfeeding women.

Yu Qian now rides his bike very fast after get off work; he's like a whirlwind these days. He really wishes he could stay home with his wife and kids all day.

He now adores his soft and sweet little daughter; she laughs every time he teases her! She gives him a sweet smile.

Liu Jing also gave birth, a boy and a girl. Upon hearing this, Liu Yun grabbed Yu Qian and the old hen he had prepared, and rode her bicycle over quickly, because she had been cooped up at home for far too long.

Time flies, and it was soon 1968. Gradually, Liu Yun also put away those brightly colored clothes and told Cheng Ke and Liu Jing about it.

Liu Jing knew that her younger sister was sensitive about certain things, while Cheng Ke completely trusted Liu Yun, so they put everything away.
