Chapter 28 Run

Upon hearing the noise coming from the toilet, Liu Yun immediately got up, closed all the doors and windows tightly, and began packing the belongings and food for her family of five.

Seeing his wife's actions and hearing the commotion outside, Yu Qianhe guessed what was going on. He inevitably thought of the famous scene he had witnessed last time, frowned, and got up to help his wife pack her things. The two planned to go to Yu's house early the next morning and stay there for a few days. They needed to pack all the food to take with them, otherwise the food would spoil in the hot weather.

Hearing the commotion, Cheng Ke, like Liu Yun, quickly got up and closed the doors and windows. Fu Yao, however, looked puzzled and asked, "Why are you closing all the doors and windows? Isn't it hot? What's happening outside? I'll go check."

"You'd better not go. Think about how you barely ate for days last time. Do you still want to go?"

Upon hearing his wife's reminder, Fu Yao also thought of the incident involving the three brothers last time. This time it was the toilet again, so he cautiously avoided going.

Aunt Zhu wanted to extort some medical expenses to teach the Wang family a lesson, but after all this commotion, it was already very late, and everyone had to go to work tomorrow. The air was filled with the smell of the latrine, so everyone went home one after another. However, when they went home, everyone's eyes were shining with excitement, which showed how lively tomorrow would be.

The next day, just as dawn broke, Liu Yun and her husband took their child and left with bags and packages. As soon as they opened the door, a strong smell of "gold" filled the air.

The two of them held their breath and pedaled their bicycles as fast as they could, only breathing heavily after they had walked a distance out of the compound.

When the family of five arrived at Yu's house, Yu's mother had just begun preparing breakfast.

When Yu's mother saw that her youngest son had brought lots of bags early in the morning, she thought something had happened.

"What's going on? What happened? Why is the whole family here so early?"

Upon hearing this question, Liu Yun indicated that she did not want to answer and turned to look at Yu Qianhe.

Yu Qianhe didn't want to answer the question either. "Mom, let's talk about it after breakfast. We're fine. It's just that someone in the tenement had a little problem last night."

Yu's mother suddenly realized what had happened and, remembering the bizarre events in the courtyard of her previous life, silently replaced the porridge she was about to cook with noodles, and then served it with a plate of crisp and refreshing dried radish.

After breakfast, since he hadn't gone out the night before and didn't know the specifics, Yu Qian briefly told his parents about the compound and planned to stay there for two days.

Mother Yu accepted it readily. Having memories of her past life, she wouldn't be surprised by even the most outrageous things happening in the compound. Father Yu, however, maintained an expression of utter disbelief. It was indeed quite absurd, especially since this was the second time. But the excitement in his eyes was undeniable; gossip truly is human nature.

Looking at Yu's father's expression, Yu's mother just grinned. This was only the beginning; there would only be more outrageous things to come.

Unlike the Yu family's place, this was a day when food was being used sparingly in the tenement courtyard.

The morning sunlight was exceptionally bright, and the morning scent was exceptionally fresh.

This morning was different from usual. The sun was still shining brightly, but the smell wasn't so fresh. Early in the morning, a faint stench filled the air—the smell of "gold," the smell of a cesspool.

Luckily it's not very hot yet. If it were summer, it would definitely stink to death. But the smell is still unpleasant, much worse than last time.

After making a ruckus all night, and since everyone went out to see what was going on without closing the doors and windows, the house smelled terrible. When everyone woke up in the morning, they all had huge dark circles under their eyes and looked like pandas. The whole yard was filled with an even stronger, more unbearable odor.

Breakfast is out of the question. No one in the whole yard needs to eat. It's not that we're hungry, it's just too disgusting. We absolutely can't eat anything with this smell.

Moreover, whether in the yard or at home, there is no escape.

When Cheng Ke opened the door in the morning, she almost vomited from the smell in the air. Last time, the temperature wasn't very high, so the smell wasn't this strong, but this time the smell was much stronger. Looking at the Yu family's front door, she knew that Liu Yun and the other person must have gone to Yu's mother's house.

Actually, she really wanted to leave, but she had nowhere to go. Although her life had been quite difficult in her previous life, she had never seen anything like this before. The smell when she opened the door made her really not want to cook breakfast.

It's okay that she's too disgusted to eat, but it's not the same for Fu Yao. He has to go to work, and the children need to eat too. Although children can eat even if they're eating from a latrine, she just finds it repulsive.

Fortunately, the two of them didn't go out to watch the play and witness the scene firsthand yesterday, so they weren't as bothered as the other people in the compound. Instead, they took their child to the state-run restaurant.

The Wang family was now in a state of gloom. Old Mrs. Wang lay on the bed, pretending to sigh. She didn't want to wash the clothes that were stained with feces. The smell of the latrine in the house was unbearable after the three Wang brothers had been washed with hot water.

The three brothers were cursing Aunt Zhu, and now they were cursing everyone in the courtyard.

Wang Meifen was exhausted and afraid of what she would have to face tomorrow. Judging from her appearance tonight, Aunt Zhu would definitely cause trouble tomorrow. The strong stench in the house and the curses from the three brothers made her even more irritable.

Seeing this, Old Mrs. Wang quickly said softly, "Meifen! We've all dragged you down. We're old and young. If it weren't for us, you could live a very good life on your own. Why don't you remarry? We can't keep dragging you down like this."

Luckily, no one else heard her say that, or she would have been scolded to death. "Old and young," she said. There were plenty of people older than her in this compound, and none of them did anything like her all day. "Those three Wang brothers are considered young? The eldest is already over ten. Which family's children don't help with chores from five or six years old? Only their kids are over ten and still stealing chickens and dogs."
