Chapter 36 Mother's Birthday

Since the Yu family had spare clothes, the group didn't go back.

Yu Qian was originally supposed to have three days off, but he was called back on the third day due to an urgent mission. Not only did he only have two days off, but he also had to work overtime on the weekend.

On the weekend, looking at the rabbit in the kitchen that hadn't eaten for two days, Liu Yun patted her head.

When they arrived next door, Fu Yao had also gone to work overtime, so Cheng Ke was at home.

"Do you want rabbits? I have two more." Since the two were already quite familiar with each other, Liu Yun didn't stand on ceremony and went straight to the point.

"Two? You don't want them yourself?"

"don't want."

"Then I'll take them all!" Fu Yao has been busy these past few days, so I'll give him some extra treats.

"Okay, I'll go get it for you."

After Liu Yun finished speaking, she went to get the rabbit that hadn't eaten for two days. It wasn't that Cheng Ke was stingy or miserly, but in those days of scarcity, you needed coupons and a food ration book to buy grain, oil, and non-staple foods. Meat was even harder to buy. Every time she went to buy meat, she couldn't even get eggs, let alone meat.

Since becoming friends with Liu Yun, I've basically been able to afford eggs and meat freely. As for the types, as long as they're available, I'm fine with it; there's no need to be picky. But every time, the price Liu Yun pays is the same as the supply and marketing cooperative's price, with only the cost of coupons added, which is still the market price. But this clearly means I'm getting a better deal.

"You can give me the sack in a few days."

"Okay, your cotton-padded coat is all done. Take it back later. Rabbit, do you want money or to have the clothes made? Your sister sent some homespun cloth over." He took out the finished cotton-padded coat and handed it to Liu Yun.

"Make clothes for my triplets! Make them a bit bigger, we haven't made many this year, but they can still wear them. Make clothes for two- or three-year-olds." He then took out five yuan, enough to make one set for each of them.

Yu Qianhe was busy for a whole week, and by the time he stopped, it was his mother's birthday. It happened to be a Sunday, and Yu Qianhe returned home just as Liu Yun had finished preparing the things needed for his mother's birthday.

Hearing the knock on the door, Liu Yun was still confused when she came out of the space. It wasn't until she heard Yu Qianhe's voice that she realized what was happening and quickly went to open the door. "Are you done with your work? Have you eaten?"

"I'm done with work. I ate at the cafeteria. Why aren't you asleep yet? I thought you guys were staying at Mom's tonight."

"Mom came over today, and I told her to take her things over first—two rabbits and two fish. We'll bring some fruit over tomorrow; I bought pears, that should be enough! I'll go boil some water for you."

"I'll go! You go find me a set of pajamas."

"OK."

After finding pajamas and clothes for Yu Qian to wear the next day, Liu Yun continued to take inventory.

Today, Yu's mother brought two rabbits and two fish. She had originally prepared two ducks, but Yu's mother said that she couldn't buy everything herself, as greed is insatiable.

Liu Yun thought about her two sisters-in-law and decided not to take them. She left the duck in the kitchen, but packed it in a sack, since it had already been approved by her mother. Tomorrow she would just take the six pounds of pears and a basket of eggs.

When Yu Qian returned after showering and getting dressed, Liu Yun was already in bed. He lifted the covers, snuggled in, hugged her slender, soft waist, and buried his face in her neck.

"Honey, don't bring anything from the kitchen tomorrow. You've already taken enough." The voice was muffled.

"Yes, Mom said so too. You should rest for a few days this time." Liu Yun tried to push him down, but couldn't.

"one day."

Liu Yun didn't push him away anymore. She closed her eyes and hugged him, letting the hand that was messing around on her waist do so.

His palms were calloused, but not rough. Sliding across his palms, the prickly sensation sent shivers down your spine.

The two hugged each other tightly. They had spent more than a month on a business trip, only two days together, and then another week apart. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

No one spoke; in the darkness, only each other's breathing could be heard.

The next day, after breakfast, the family took their things and headed to the Yu family's house.

Because I have children, by the time I finished feeding the three little ones breakfast, washed up, and arrived at the Yu family home, it was already past ten o'clock.

This time, however, Li Juan and Chen Xi didn't act sarcastic or sarcastic; they worked honestly and diligently.

The main reason was that the two of them came here to ask their son and daughter if Liu Yun had paid living expenses for the long time she had lived here. After all, there were four of them living here, and the two of them often came over for meals. If they didn't pay living expenses, they would have a reason to do so. They couldn't let it be like last time.

But after hearing from her son and daughter about the things Liu Yun had bought while staying here, as well as the things Liu's mother had brought back yesterday, she immediately stopped saying anything. After all, although they had brought some biscuits and malted milk powder, these were not rare items for them. Meat was the most important thing these days. If they made a fuss, they would definitely get a scolding from Yu's mother again. Fortunately, she had asked first this time so as not to lose face again.

The meal was enjoyed by everyone. Liu Yun just ate as usual, and after the meal, the three Yu brothers washed the dishes and swept the floor.

Not long after we finished eating, we heard a commotion outside, a noisy and chaotic scene, including crying.

Liu Yun had lived here for so long and had never seen anything like this before. Could there be some weirdos around here too? She was a little scared. "Mom, what's going on?"

"Sigh! It's all because of the rural school assignments. This is your Uncle Liu's youngest son, the fifth in his family. He has an older sister and three older brothers. He's not taking the college entrance exam anymore. Last year, he was unemployed and was supposed to go to the countryside. Your Aunt Liu didn't want her daughter to go; she thought it was unsafe for a girl to be alone in an unfamiliar place, so she transferred the job to her daughter. Your Uncle Liu's house was almost turned upside down by his three daughters-in-law. In the end, it only stopped when the young girl offered to give all her wages to the family for common use. This year, the youngest son graduated too."

As she spoke, Yu's mother raised an eyebrow at Liu Yun, "A couple of days ago, something happened. That kid got up to go to the bathroom at night without a light and fell down the stairs, breaking his leg. He should be back from the hospital now!"
