When the group arrived at the entrance of the supply and marketing cooperative, there were already quite a few people inside, but not an overwhelming number.
Second Sister-in-law Yu and Third Sister-in-law Yu quickly squeezed up, while Liu Yun and Mother Yu waited on the side.
Liu Yun doesn't need either of them. Although Liu Jing's clothes are a bit more expensive, she can have them made directly by Cheng Ke. And Yu's mother doesn't need them either. Liu Yun makes more clothes for her and her husband in a year than they used to make for themselves—at least six sets a year. They only occasionally buy a couple of outfits for themselves, which is more than enough. Most of her clothes are still in about 80% new condition.
Liu Yun shuddered as she looked at the long, outstretched hands around the counter, clutching money and tickets, vying to buy first. Luckily, she didn't have to squeeze in.
She was quite lucky. Before, when she wanted to buy something, she didn't have the money. Later, when she had the money, she didn't need to squeeze in anymore. She could choose first inside the department store. Later, she just picked things out from Liu Jing and Cheng Ke.
At first, she thought the space was useless, but now she is glad that she has a space. She can make a living by growing food and cotton.
Not long after, the two of them came back out carrying the cloth.
"You managed to grab them all?" Mother Yu glanced at the cloths she was holding; they looked like a lot, so she must have managed to get what she wanted.
"Yes, I bought seven feet of cloth. I plan to make a new outfit for Xiaoshan so she can find a job and a boyfriend soon." Aunt Yu smiled so broadly that her mouth stretched to the back of her ears as she held the small floral pink cloth.
"I bought two and a half zhang (approximately 6.5 meters) of fabric, some black and some indigo! That'll be enough for the father, his two sons, and me to make a set." Aunt Yu was also very happy. "It's just that there's no cotton; otherwise, such good fabric would be perfect for making cotton-padded jackets."
"We can only wait and see when the supply and marketing cooperative and the department store have stock to buy from again. If we're not in a hurry to make the fabric, we can keep it for now."
Mother Yu knew that not everyone could procure so many things like her youngest daughter-in-law—seven or eight cotton-padded coats a year, some for children, but all made of real cotton. However, she wouldn't ask her daughter-in-law to help procure fabric and cotton for the other two sons. First, although Liu Yun was capable, obtaining these scarce materials would cost a high price, and there was no guarantee of success. Second, the second and third sons hadn't yet reached the point where they wouldn't need cotton-padded clothes in winter.
Liu Yun and her mother spent most of the day shopping but didn't buy anything. Yu's second and third sisters-in-law only bought fabric, so they could barely be considered to have returned home with a full load.
After dinner, Mother Yu gave her three sons the gifts she had prepared for their three in-laws and then sent them home. Mother Yu was very fair; she gave each son six packs of cigarettes and two bottles of wine, making it a nice number, but it was still quite meaningful and valuable.
The first thing Liu Yun did when she got home was to tell Yu Qian to boil water quickly, because she wanted to take a bath and wash her hair; she hadn't washed her hair for almost three days.
After calming down the triplets, Liu Yun finished her work, hugged the glucose bottle, and snuggled into bed, while Yu Qianhe was doing laundry.
After washing the clothes, Yu Qian looked at the person in bed. The warm orange light shone on her slightly frizzy, dry hair. It was his wife. Their three children were on the small bed next to her. Looking at this scene, he felt a warm, heavy feeling in his heart. If Liu Yun knew what he was thinking at this moment, she would definitely say, "Is this what it feels like to carry his whole world on your back? And it feels so heavy."
He walked over and kissed Liu Yun's cheek, then buried his head in her neck and rubbed against her, turning into a clingy puppy again. Liu Yun loved this side of him the most; it was the complete opposite of his refined and aloof demeanor in front of strangers. She absolutely adored this contrasting cuteness.
"Stop fooling around, we're going to my mom's tomorrow!" Liu Yun, having calmed down, gave him a hard push, let out a long breath, and glared at him: "What's wrong now!"
“You’ve changed,” Yu Qianhe reluctantly withdrew his hand, muttering softly, “You weren’t like this before.”
The grievance in his words made Liu Yun want to laugh. She glanced at him with a smile and said, "I haven't changed. It's you who's evolving more and more like a dog."
The last time she was this clingy was when she was pregnant! Back then, she was like a big puppy, so clingy.
Yu Qianhe didn't take her teasing to heart at all, and didn't feel embarrassed at all, keeping Liu Yun so busy that she couldn't think straight.
Yu Qianhe was acting strangely today, full of energy, which Liu Yun found a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, he remembered he had something to do tomorrow and didn't cause too much trouble.
The next morning, Liu Yun was dragged out of bed by Yu Qian. She was still very sleepy, but when she stretched and her hand touched the cold air outside, she couldn't help but shiver, which immediately woke her up.
I've been eating greasy food these past few days, so the next few days won't be too bad. This morning, Yu Qianhe cooked cabbage porridge, three salted duck eggs, and a dish of pickled radish and pickled cabbage, which was refreshing and helped cut through the greasiness.
After breakfast, the two packed their things. Yu's mother prepared cigarettes and alcohol, and the two took the cotton-padded jackets and shoes they had made earlier, along with a box of candy, and went out to take the bus. They originally planned to take biscuits, but thinking that the biscuits they brought back from Liu's house should not be lacking at home, and considering that there were many children, they changed to candy instead.
When they arrived at the Liu family's house, Liu Jing and her companion were already there, since they lived closer to the Liu family.
"You're back. Let Grandma hold my sweet little girl. Are you cold? Fourth brother, hurry up and get the things and pour some tea."
After drinking a cup of brown sugar ginger tea to warm themselves up, the mother and her two daughters started chatting, focusing on Liu Aidang's girlfriend. Liu Yun was also quite curious about her, because in the book, Liu Aidang went to the countryside and married a country girl. So she was quite curious about this sister-in-law she had never met. Although it was none of her business whether she was good or bad, she could still enjoy watching the excitement and gossip.
Seeing the mother and her two daughters chatting happily, Liu's father took Liu Aidang to cook.
