Liu's mother: "What do you mean by asking for money? If you can't speak properly, then don't speak at all."
Liu Aidang: "If it's not about money, then what is it? Don't tell me you're just asking why I didn't tell my family. I don't believe you."
Liu's mother said, "Don't they need to hire employees for their shop? Hiring someone else is the same as hiring family members. Your sister-in-law doesn't have a job yet! If you don't want to hire someone, you can help your sister-in-law out. After all, your brother's family is having a hard time right now. We're all brothers and sisters. If you're doing well, you should help each other out."
Upon hearing this, Liu Aidang laughed in anger.
Liu Aidang: "Ha! Since all you two care about is your eldest son's life or death, then you might as well not stay here anymore and go with your eldest son."
Father Liu: "Fourth son, what do you mean by this? Your mother and I worked so hard to raise you, and after you graduated, we even gave you a job. How can you say such a thing? Do you have any conscience?"
Liu's mother felt utterly cold inside.
Liu Aidang: "Isn't it true that you only care about the eldest son? Before the family was divided, no matter how much you subsidized the eldest son's family, did I say anything? Now that the family is divided, Mom, you must have secretly given the eldest son's family a lot of money and things behind his back! Otherwise, Liu Aidang could support his family with just a few dozen yuan."
Liu's mother said, "That's your father's salary. I didn't use your money. Do you want me to just stand by and watch your older brother's family starve to death while we eat our fill? That's your own older brother. You're brothers."
Liu Aidang: "Even close brothers keep clear accounts! I didn't say anything because it was Dad's salary; I just pretended not to see it. And you think I'm heartless? We're eating meat and fish while Liu Aiguo is eating coarse food and vegetables? Since you think it's heartless of me to feed you with meat and fish, and filial piety for Liu Aidang to make you work like slaves, then you can just follow them. Just consider me heartless!"
Liu's father: "Fourth son, you know that's not what your mother and I meant."
Liu Aidang: "I don't want to know what you mean. I'm not interested in these things. All I know is that you two are trying to cut off my lifeline and drive me to my death for Liu Aiguo's sake."
Liu's mother said, "How did we push you to the brink? We're just helping your older brother out. Besides, you're doing well now. If you just let a little bit of your money slip through your fingers, your older brother and his family will be set for life. It's not like we're asking you to give to your older brother. How can brothers and sisters not support each other?"
Liu Aidang: "Does it mean I deserve to be well off? What did you and Liu Aidang do when I was suffering? We had no capital, so we sold our jobs to scrape together some money. We worked from dawn till dusk every day. We didn't even have time to eat when we were thirsty or hungry, or drink water. Back then, to save that little bit of time, we ate dry food soaked in water. Before dawn, we rode dozens of miles on mountain roads with flashlights, and we were still on mountain roads when it got dark. What was Liu Aiguo doing? He was living like an emperor at home, with everything done for him."
Liu's mother: "Didn't you not tell the family?"
Liu Aidang: "Tell my family? Did they know we were doing business and sold our jobs to help us? Did they? It seems like all they did was question and blame us! They blamed me for selling my job, blamed me for speculating, and asked how Liu Aiguo did it, and what you did. Back then, even after I sold my job and we separated from the family, they still wanted the money from selling my job. Didn't they blame me for selling my job? Didn't they blame my wife for selling her job? I was running around day and night, and I couldn't even speak properly. They still told me to stop fooling around outside, so why should I help them?"
Liu's mother said, "If you don't want to help, fine, but why are you stopping us from going to find the second and third sons? It's not like we need your help."
Liu Aidang: "Fine, since you're pushing me to the brink, then you can go with Liu Aiguo. You just can't stand to see me doing well."
Upon hearing this, Liu's father sensed something was wrong: "Did your second and third sons threaten you?"
Liu's mother: "They dare!"
Liu Aidang: "They wouldn't be so shameless. Threats? Isn't that something only Liu Aiguo would do? They're not Liu Aiguo. Besides, I still have a sense of shame. I'm still a human being, and I wouldn't do something like repaying kindness with enmity."
Liu Aidang: "Now that you've come to my door to cause trouble, how can I possibly ask them for help again? Most of everything I have now is thanks to them. You say that my second and third sisters don't support their own brothers, does that mean I'm not human? Is Liu Aiguo the only one in the family who's worthy of your attention? You only have Liu Aiguo as your son, don't you? Knowing full well that my second and third sisters don't like them, you still go to their door to cause them trouble."
Liu Aidang was tired of talking and didn't want to say any more.
Liu Aidang: "I sold my job, my wife sold her job, and even my brother-in-law and brother-in-law sold their jobs, all in a desperate gamble. We have no way out. I still have a wife and children to support. Can you please stop making trouble and stop pushing me to my death?"
Liu Aidang: "Although you only care about Liu Aiguo's family, my son and daughter are also your grandchildren."
Liu Aidang: "If you still consider my second and third sisters and me as your children, then stop caring only about the fate of Liu Aiguo's family and leave us three a way out!"
Liu Aidang: "If you go and make a scene, I won't have the face to go to my second and third sisters again. What will happen to their businesses if you make a scene? Will they close down? How will they face their husbands' families in the future? Their husbands' families even gave them coffins back then."
Liu Aidang: "Second and Third Sisters have been incredibly kind to the Liu family. The dowry for Liu Aiguo's wedding was paid by Second Sister. Liu Aiguo and Xu Hongxing have been eyeing Second and Third Sisters' jobs more than once. Besides, everything you two wear and use was bought by them, so how can you say they are ungrateful and heartless?"
Father Liu: "Fourth son, don't take this too seriously. Your mother was just angry and said things without thinking. She doesn't think the second and third sons are ungrateful."
Liu Aidang: "Is that so? Do whatever you want. As for Liu Aiguo, help him if you want! I won't interfere. As for wanting Second Sister and Third Sister to help, can't they just say so themselves? Don't they have mouths? You always have to take the lead in everything."
Liu Aidang: "If you still want to go find your second and third sisters, then go ahead! From now on, consider me an unfilial son!"
After saying that, Liu Aidang went upstairs, ignoring his parents.
