Chapter 33 Making Cotton-padded Clothes

After taking the clothes, Liu Yun went home, leaving the two of them to discuss things slowly. They went inside, locked the door, and entered the space in one smooth motion.

Looking at the overflowing space, Liu Yun felt a pang of heartache; there was simply too much food to eat.

Boil a pot of water, add salt and let it cool. Roll up your sleeves and get to work, continue harvesting rapeseed. There's only a little left. Once this is done, we'll have to plant cotton.

After two hours of hard work, the harvest was finally finished. A lot of cotton was also planted. I checked the time and took out the duck eggs that I had washed last night.

We've almost finished the salted duck eggs at home, and we happen to have too many eggs in the space, especially quail eggs, which are practically an overabundance.

After pickling two jars of duck eggs, she went next door. The two were still organizing fabrics and patterns, and Liu Yun resigned herself to helping them pack their clothes.

After the three of them had lunch at the state-run restaurant, Liu Jing took the clothes and went back. Cheng Ke went back to make clothes, while Liu Yun continued to organize her space. She started pickling salted duck eggs, and next were pickled peppers, pickled cucumbers, and pickled green beans. These were very simple; they just needed to be put into the old brine.

After a busy afternoon, looking at the kitchen full of kimchi jars, I felt a great sense of satisfaction.

Liu Yun caught ten quails, carried a basket of quail eggs, and slipped away quickly when no one was around outside the courtyard.

Back at the Yu family home, Yu's mother saw the basket of quail eggs and her lips twitched. She didn't want to say anything anymore. She remembered that her daughter-in-law hadn't been this wasteful in her previous life! Was it because she wasn't talking about it in this life?

"Don't be angry, don't be angry. She earned her own money, don't worry about her. She earns a lot." After comforting herself, Yu's mother felt a little better. However, she still needed to be careful about cooking and eating at home. With eggs and meat every day, she didn't want anyone to be watching her.

Unbeknownst to Yu's mother, Liu Yun had fallen for the scheme. She dared to act this way because she knew Yu's mother wouldn't say anything. After all, Yu's mother, being reborn, would surely know about her speculative activities. Moreover, there was a hideout right next to her courtyard, so Yu's mother definitely knew something about it. That's why Liu Yun dared to be so reckless.

As soon as Mr. Yu got off work, his wife sent him off to kill quails. She killed two, and kept the rest in the woodpile. The reason she waited until Mr. Yu returned was because Mrs. Yu knew her younger daughter-in-law was lazy, greedy, and completely incompetent. "She never learned how to kill quails in her past life, and she thinks she can in this one? Dream on!"

After dinner, I gave the clothes I had made to Mr. and Mrs. Yu. Mrs. Yu's mouth moved, but in the end she didn't say anything. She just asked if we had enough money. After receiving an affirmative answer, she didn't say anything more.

To be honest, Yu's mother had never seen anyone spend money as much as her youngest daughter-in-law, but she was also good at making money. It's a pity she was born in the wrong era.

Fortunately, Liu Yun was unaware of her mother's thoughts, otherwise she would definitely have retorted, "You're mistaken. I only know how to spend money, not how to make it. It would be the same in any era."

Yu's mother finally looked forward to Sunday, when she could finally relax for a day. Actually, taking care of the child wasn't that tiring. Yu Shan and Yu Ke would help take care of the child while cooking. Usually, they would just push the child around in the neighborhood, and a group of old ladies would help carry the child, and the day would pass by. On Sundays, Liu Yun and her husband would take care of the child themselves.

But now, knowing her daughter-in-law's personality, she wants her to take care of the child herself for a day, as a small act of revenge and to satisfy her own little perverse pleasure.

As a result, before going to bed on Saturday night, Liu Yun came to the door of Yu's mother's room and asked her to help watch over the room for another day the next day, as she had something to do.

Yu's mother understood and agreed, but she was still emotionally exhausted.

The next day, after finishing breakfast, Liu Yun hummed a song and rode her bicycle to the outskirts of the city. She arrived at a deserted grove of trees, picked up the rapeseed and the earthenware jar for storing oil that she had prepared the night before, and headed towards the oil press.

Since it's not the harvest season for oil crops and it's still early, no one is pressing oil right now, so there's no need to queue. Just put your things down, pay, and wait on the side. By the time the oil is pressed, it's already noon.

After loading the oil and oil cakes, I rode my bike back. I put the things into my space in the grove and headed towards the courtyard. However, I still had the smell of rapeseed oil and peanut oil on me. Fortunately, the wind blew it away and I couldn't smell it anymore.

Upon arriving at the compound, they first went home and used a jar to divide out about five ounces of oil, which they then took to Cheng Ke's house.

Here, do you want it?

Cheng Ke looked up and smelled the faint scent of oil on Liu Yun, immediately realizing what it was, and quickly took it.

"Yes, yes, yes, I really need it, I want as much as I can."

"I don't have any more, I only have this much, that's all I have."

Just kidding. After working so hard and harvesting rapeseed for so long, nearly half of the rapeseed only yielded a little over ten pounds of oil. It's too tiring. Let's just destroy it!

"Okay, the money will be included in the processing fee. Your clothes are all finished. Come and take a look, would you like to try them on?"

"Give it to me and I'll try it!"

“Okay, there’s still some homespun cloth left. We’ll make two sets of clothes for each of the triplets, and we’ll settle the cost with that bottle of oil.”

"OK."

I tried on the new clothes as soon as I got home.

The top is indigo blue, while the bottom is the original color of homespun cloth. Both pieces are loose and drape beautifully, offering comfort and a natural feel, so you don't have to worry about getting them dirty while cooking.

The top has a flat cut and wide sleeves that give it a relaxed feel, and most importantly, it's cool and breathable. The pants are also very comfortable, allowing you to walk with a breeze.

The homespun cloth isn't a perfectly smooth fabric; if you look closely, you can see some fine, fibrous particles. When the fabric touches your skin, there's a slightly rough, frictional feel, but it's incredibly absorbent and breathable! It's much more comfortable than shaggy cloth or polyester sailor shirts.

A cotton-linen white shirt is versatile. While cotton-linen isn't as smooth as pure cotton and wrinkles easily, it's comfortable and skin-friendly! Nowadays, most people still wear patched clothes, so wrinkles are a minor issue.
