As the villagers walked home, chatting excitedly about when their sons would return, one person entered the Zhao family's house.
After Zhao Yang died, Zhao Gang took over the tasks that Zhao Yang was in charge of under Zhao Ruhai.
Zhao Ruhai had just returned from seeing his daughter off and was in a bad mood. He sat in the armchair in his study, exuding a gloomy and ruthless aura.
Seeing Zhao Gang return, he raised his venomous eyes and glanced at Zhao Gang. "Did you finish the job?"
Zhao Gang replied respectfully, "Boss, it's all done. As you instructed, I left a package at the courier point for that girl named Peach Blossom."
When the villagers helped bring the package back today, the village chief was holding a meeting. Peach Blossom received the chocolate and immediately shared half with Little Softie.
"Hmm." Zhao Ruhai responded faintly, closed his eyes, and leaned back in his armchair to rest.
Zhao Gang hesitated for a moment and asked, "Boss, Mr. Yuan said we weren't allowed to harm the villagers. That little girl named Peach Blossom left four chocolates. What if she eats them..."
Zhao Ruhai opened his eyes, a fierce glint flashing within them. "Don't touch the villagers? She's just a little girl. Do I need to teach her what to do?"
Zhao Gang immediately understood and respectfully replied, "Yes, boss, I'll take care of it right away."
"Remember to make it clean," Zhao Ruhai reminded him from behind.
Zhao Gang turned and walked out of the house, where he ran into Ye Tinglan carrying a tray. He was stunned for a moment, then quickly bowed his head and greeted her respectfully, "Sister-in-law."
Zhao Ruhai frowned slightly and looked at Ye Tinglan.
Ye Tinglan's gentle demeanor revealed nothing unusual. She smiled slightly, nodded to Zhao Gang, and carried the tray into Zhao Ruhai's room.
A fleeting look of suspicion and wariness crossed Zhao Ruhai's eyes.
Ye Tinglan didn't see Zhao Ruhai's expression for a moment. She placed the tray in front of Zhao Ruhai, on which was freshly made chicken soup. She scooped a bowl and handed it to Zhao Ruhai, asking, "Ruhai, did Yunyun cry or make a fuss when you sent her away?"
When Ye Tinglan asked about Yunyun, the last bit of defensiveness and vigilance in Zhao Ruhai's eyes completely disappeared. He took a sip of chicken soup, held Ye Tinglan's hand in one hand, and smiled with a hint of pride on his face, "Lanlan, you're just worrying too much."
How could our Yunyun, such a well-behaved child, possibly cry and fuss?
She didn't cry or make a fuss; instead, she told me to take good care of my mother and that she would video chat with us after she got there.
Ye Tinglan smiled gently, "It's good that Yunyun didn't cry or make a fuss. She's still young, and I wouldn't feel at ease leaving her to live alone abroad."
Zhao Ruhai squeezed her hand. "Don't worry, I've already asked someone to find Yunyun a top-notch housekeeper and tutor. Besides, isn't Ye Yao over there?"
I'll have someone bring the uncle and nephew to meet often.
Ye Tinglan nodded without saying anything more.
After Xiaoruanruan, her older sister, and her older brother Sulei confirmed the villagers' intention to rent out their land at the village chief's house, they went with the village chief to measure and register the area of each plot of land.
By the time they finished doing all that and got home, it was almost dark.
Unexpectedly, Su Xiaowu and a large group of friends gathered on the steps in front of their house, and gasps of surprise occasionally rippled through the crowd.
Little Ruanruan curiously squeezed her little head through the gap in the crowd and saw a huge lobster waving its two big pincers in a large iron basin.
Just then, Su Xiaowu went to her neighbor's house next door and borrowed the scale back.
He held the scale boldly in one hand and tried to grab the lobster with the other, attempting to place it on the scale pan, but the scale pan was smaller than the lobster.
A clever young man brought a woven bag and suggested putting the lobsters in it before weighing them.
Su Xiaowu readily complied, roughly stuffing the lobster into the bag, and then laboriously lifted the scale.
After picking it up, Su Xiaowu looked at this one blankly, then at that one, and asked awkwardly, "Who among you knows how to read a scale?"
"I'll do it!" one of the older kids stepped forward, counted the stars on the scale, and finally shouted in a strong voice, "Ten pounds and two ounces!"
"Wow--"
A gasp of surprise immediately erupted from the group of friends.
Chongqing is an inland city, and seafood is not plentiful, let alone in such a remote mountain village. They had never even seen a lobster before, let alone such a large one.
Little Ruanruan's big, bright eyes lit up as she looked at the lobster.
Although the arrival of Brother Gu Chen prevented the older brother from enabling them to live a self-reliant life as he had hoped, they still ate seafood much less frequently here than at home.
Just then, an enticing aroma wafted into the room, and Xiao Ruanruan's tears involuntarily streamed down her face.
She shuffled her little feet into the kitchen and saw Gu Chen's busy figure. "Brother Gu Chen."
Little Softie called out sweetly.
Wearing a black apron, Gu Chen turned around, his eyes filled with a gentle smile as he looked at her. "Little Ruanruan, have you finished with the land rental business today?"
"Mmm!" Little Ruanruan nodded her head heavily, proudly sticking out her little belly, with her hands behind her back. She followed Gu Chen's footsteps and shared what she had done that day with him.
It was embarrassing that when she was doing live-streaming e-commerce, she hadn't even set up the purchase link properly.
