"Memory erasure complete."
A cold, mechanical sound rang out in the laboratory as the equipment automatically delivered the still unconscious Xiao Ruan Ruan out.
A satisfied smile appeared on Black Nightmare's lips. He turned to the researcher beside him and said, "Take her away."
"yes."
The researcher took Little Softie away.
When Xiao Ruanruan woke up, before she even opened her eyes, she heard cries and whispers all around her.
"Oh dear, this happened to such a young couple. What will happen to the two siblings left behind?"
"The Su family and the Gu family are too ruthless. It's just a business deal. They say that even if a business deal falls through, goodwill should remain. But they actually plotted to harm people when the deal fell through."
"Old Ye and his wife wouldn't listen to advice. We told them long ago that those people in China are heartless monsters who eat people without spitting out the bones, and that we shouldn't do business with them. But they insisted that their roots were in China, and now that they had the ability, they naturally wanted to do business with China to give back to their motherland."
...
As Xiao Ruanruan listened to these voices, her brows furrowed tightly into a deep frown. She tried to search her mind for any relevant information these people were talking about, but she couldn't find anything.
Her mind was completely blank.
She opened her eyes somewhat dazedly and found herself lying in a beautifully decorated princess room.
Beside her bed sat a boy dressed in mourning clothes, exuding an aura of sadness and melancholy.
When she saw the boy, her heart skipped a beat, and then a feeling of heartache spread through her heart.
Little Ruanruan tried to sit up, but the sound she made startled the boy. He looked up at her with surprise and delight, "Little sister, you're awake!"
Xiao Ruanruan was stunned for a moment, feeling that the term "sister" seemed a bit off; the person in front of her shouldn't be calling her "sister."
But after thinking about it carefully, she realized that she couldn't remember who she was, nor could she remember who the boy in front of her was.
Her bright, crystal-clear eyes looked at Hei Yan, and she asked in a childish voice, "Are you my...brother?"
"Yes." Black Nightmare nodded excitedly. "I'm your brother, sister. You suddenly fainted, it scared your brother to death. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Tell your brother and I'll find a doctor for you."
Little Ruanruan's tiny brows furrowed even more. "You're my brother, then who am I? Where am I? What happened to me? Why can't I remember anything?"
Black Nightmare stood there stunned for three seconds before rushing out of the room.
Little Ruanruan could hear his anxious shouts from inside the room, "Doctor, doctor, come quick, my sister is awake!"
Little Ruanruan habitually sat cross-legged on the bed, rubbing her temples with her little hands, but... her head was empty, without any content or memory.
Soon, a group of doctors in white coats filed into the room.
Little Ruanruan watched them examine her methodically, and then blankly answered all their questions. But when she said she was answering questions, she was really just shaking her head because she couldn't remember anything. She couldn't remember anything they asked, and she didn't know anything, so she could only shake her head.
Then, she listened as the doctor began to discuss her condition.
Finally, one of the oldest doctors said to her brother, "Young Master Ye, the young lady's condition is stress-induced amnesia caused by a huge shock."
Ye Heng, now known as Hei Yan, looked at Xiao Ruanruan with heartache and asked the doctor, "Can my sister still remember?"
The doctor said, "Young Master Ye, Miss is still very young. People usually don't remember things that happened before they were five years old after they reach adulthood. Miss is currently overwhelmed with grief because of the passing of her husband and wife, and has lost her memory. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it may even be a good thing."
Ye Heng nodded, "Okay, doctor, I understand. Thank you for your help."
Then, Xiao Ruanruan saw a group of doctors file out of her room.
Her brother sat down beside her, took her hand, and said, "Little sister, it's okay if you don't remember the past. Even if Mom and Dad are gone, your brother will protect you and won't let you get hurt."
Little Ruanruan looked at Ye Heng with a confused expression in her bright eyes and asked him, "Brother, what's your name? What's my name?"
Ye Heng reached out and ruffled her hair. "My name is Ye Heng, and your name is Ye Ruan. This is our home."
"Why are Mommy and Daddy gone?" Little Ruanruan continued to ask.
A hint of malice flashed in Ye Heng's eyes. Then, he lowered his head, concealing his emotions, and said, "Because they were in a car accident."
"Was the car accident an accident or intentional?" Xiao Ruanruan asked incisively. She had only lost her memory, which did not affect her intelligence.
"They said it was deliberate." Ye Heng clenched his fist, his face full of determination as he looked at Xiao Ruanruan and said, "Little sister, don't worry, if Mom and Dad's car accident really was deliberate, I will definitely avenge them!"
Xiao Ruanruan stared intently at Ye Heng. She felt something was wrong; this brother was wrong. What he said and what he told her were all wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong.
But a voice inside her kept telling her that this wasn't right, that none of this was real.
