Chapter 147 An Awkward Appearance

Chapter 147 An Awkward Appearance

Gu Nan's words also carried a hint of sarcasm.

Old Master Si searched his memory for this person's existence and instantly understood.

Chairman Zhang is a major troublemaker on the board of directors. He always forms cliques, but out of consideration for his status as a company veteran, the board turns a blind eye to it.

But Si Yanxiao is different. Since he is determined to reform the Si family, he must make them wary. Everyone understands the principle of "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down".

Thinking of this, Old Master Si smiled slightly, a look of satisfaction on his face, and praised, "Ayan's move is very good. It's time to teach those who try to challenge the authority of the Si family a lesson."

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan softly echoed, "That's right, those old foxes are good at assessing the situation, so they've become much more restrained."

"Hmm." Old Master Si nodded, then his eyes flashed as if he had thought of something, and he asked directly, "Ayan's health hasn't fully recovered yet, can he handle the company's affairs?"

Seeing that he was worried about Si Yanxiao's health, Gu Nan's face showed a hint of emotion. She knew that their recent conflicts had been quite deep, and perhaps this was an opportunity to ease their tensions.

He then replied, "I'm not quite sure either. He always works alone in his study. Since you're worried, why don't you ask him yourself?"

Gu Nan spoke slowly, offering words of comfort. Old Master Si listened attentively, his eyes flickered slightly, and after a moment of contemplation, he nodded.

Gu Nan handed him the phone and then very considerately walked out, leaving him some private space.

Old Master Si pursed his lips slightly and tapped the phone lightly with his finger. Si Yanxiao was dealing with official business and casually glanced at the caller ID.

A look of surprise flashed across his face, then he swiped to answer the call and whispered, "Father."

"I heard from Anan that you've recently started taking over some of the company's affairs?"

Si Yanxiao pursed his lips slightly, not expecting that Old Master Si would take the initiative to ask, and replied softly, "Hmm."

"Was the process smooth? Do you need any help?" Old Master Si coughed lightly, a hint of embarrassment in his eyes.

“No need.” Si Yanxiao refused directly, then suddenly realized that his tone was a bit harsh, so he softened his expression and spoke again.

There always needs to be a gradual process.

When he saw that the old man refused to help, his eyes narrowed slightly and a stiff look appeared on his face.

He knew that Si Yanxiao harbored deep resentment towards him, and that was precisely why he was unwilling to accept his help.

"Alright, you can think it over yourself," Old Master Si replied in a low voice, then hung up the phone.

When Jiang Ran entered the room, she saw this scene: Old Master Si leaned against the bed with an unhappy expression, a hint of fatigue between his brows.

Upon hearing the voice, Old Master Si looked up and saw Jiang Ran. He smiled slightly and said softly, "You've arrived."

"Hmm." Jiang Ran nodded slightly, walked over and sat down in front of him, and slowly asked, "You don't look too good. What happened?"

Hearing her question, Old Master Si couldn't help but admire her keen observation; she had actually noticed something was wrong with him.

He didn't intend to hide it from her, and then sighed softly as he explained the whole story.

After hearing this, Jiang Ran pursed her lips slightly and comforted him, "You don't need to worry too much. He's an adult, and he'll know what he should and shouldn't do."

“But his health condition… I’m worried that if something happens to him, he’ll just have to bear it all alone.” Old Master Si lowered his head, paused slightly, and then continued.

"But we recently had a disagreement, so I was wondering if you could ask him what the situation is like?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran looked surprised, her brows furrowing slightly as she asked in confusion, "What?!"

She and Si Yanxiao were two completely incompatible extremes, so what could she possibly find out by going there?

Grandpa Si nodded and continued, "I know my request is a bit abrupt, but Anan is someone close to him who keeps many things from me. Only you can stand with me."

Old Master Si appealed to his emotions and reasoned with him, his words carrying a hint of pleading.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran hesitated for a moment, but had no choice but to agree.

After chatting for a few more minutes, Jiang Ran made an excuse to leave first and went directly to the villa.

After scanning the lobby and not seeing Si Yanxiao, she casually asked a servant beside her, "Where is the master?"

Upon hearing this, the maid quickly replied, "Madam, the master is in the study."

"Okay, I understand." Jiang Ran responded softly, then walked towards the study.

Si Yanxiao was looking down at the project proposal for the newly submitted land development project when a knock suddenly sounded at the door.

Thinking it was a servant, he said loudly, "Come in."

Jiang Ran pushed open the door and entered, only to see Si Yanxiao's brows furrowed slightly, as if he were pondering something.

Si Yanxiao didn't even look up, and asked directly, "What is it?"

Silence fell instantly. Seeing that no one responded, Si Yanxiao looked up with a puzzled expression.

He met Jiang Ran's gaze, and a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes. His brows furrowed, and he asked sharply, "What are you doing here?"

The unwelcome tone in his voice was obvious, and Jiang Ran sighed inwardly as she heard it.

Her relationship with Si Yanxiao was so bad, yet the old man still entrusted the matter to her. She didn't know if he was making things difficult for her or for Si Yanxiao to have to deal with her directly.

Thinking of this, she pursed her lips slightly and slowly replied, "I heard you went back to the company?"

Upon hearing this, Si Yanxiao's expression changed, instantly turning somewhat gloomy, and his tone turned slightly cold: "You're quite well-informed. What? What kind of benefit are you trying to gain from this now?"

As he spoke, a slight smirk appeared on his lips and his face showed disdain.

Seeing that he had misunderstood her, Jiang Ran didn't rush to explain. Instead, she sat down in front of him, raising her brow slightly: "You think I wanted to come?"

"Isn't that right?" Si Yanxiao asked aloud, a hint of mockery flashing across his face.

Jiang Ran suddenly scoffed, then said, "The old man was worried about your health, so he specifically asked me to come and see you."

"Heh..." Si Yanxiao sneered, "Father, you can just tell me what's on your mind directly. Why do you need to go through someone else?"

As he spoke, he looked at Jiang Ran with a serious expression, his eyes full of scrutiny.

“Even if your father really sent you, it must be because you said something you shouldn’t have in front of him again.”

After saying that, Si Yanxiao frowned, his face showing displeasure.

Jiang Ran saw that his words were full of self-reproach, and a hint of helplessness appeared in her eyes.

Sure enough, you can't just agree to something like this; it's thankless work and you might even be accused of being scheming.

"Think what you want." Jiang Ran raised her eyes, shrugged, and looked indifferent.

Anyway, she had tried to find out what the old man had asked her to do, but the outcome was no longer her concern.

His eyes sharpened, and he stood up to leave. But after turning around and taking only a couple of steps, he suddenly remembered something, paused, and slowly spoke.

“The dispute between you and your son has nothing to do with me, but as an outsider, it’s really heartbreaking to see an old man having to worry about his child and not getting any understanding.”

Then, realizing he had said too much, he hesitated slightly before continuing, "The principle that parents love their children and plan far ahead for them is something I don't need to explain further; I'm sure you understand it."

Having said that, she ignored Si Yanxiao's reaction and walked straight towards the door.

Si Yanxiao listened to Jiang Ran's advice, his eyes turned cold, and he felt that she was mocking him for being unfilial and unable to distinguish between what was important and what was urgent.

Anger surged within him, and he slammed the pen in his hand onto the table, coldly scoffing, "Mind your own business!" On the other side, Si Zuochen had been sullen for several days since overhearing Jiang Ran and Jiang Yuechen's conversation, looking as if he had something on his mind.

Since her unpleasant encounter with Si Yanxiao last time, Jiang Ran has not returned to the Si family. Instead, she stayed in the hospital and chatted with Jiang Yuechen about what had happened between them over the years.

Just as the two were having a pleasant conversation, Jiang Ran's phone suddenly rang.

Jiang Ran glanced down and saw that it was an unfamiliar number. After a slight hesitation, she still swiped to answer.

Then they heard Si Youlin's anxious voice on the other end: "Hello?"

"Hmm?" Jiang Ran recognized the voice and looked puzzled, wondering why he would call her. She then asked, "Is there something you need?"

"My brother suddenly fell ill and we don't know why!"
