Chapter Sixty-Eight: Untamable
Si Jiliang looked down at him, his narrow eyes filled with gloom: "Enough!" "You've been trying to explain yourself all this time!"
"I didn't..." Old Master Si tried to refute, but Si Jiliang waved his hand, not wanting to hear him say another word.
"You blame everything on mistakes, but what about you? Don't you think you've done anything wrong?"
"In her eyes, you are gone forever. She thinks you have abandoned her, but she still fantasizes that you will come back."
"Overworked to the point of illness, that foolish woman held onto your photo until her death."
His voice was deep, cold, and sarcastic.
As he listened to his words, images flashed through Old Master Si's mind. In a moment of panic, he clutched his chest and coughed heavily, his face turning bright red.
Si Jiliang watched coldly without making a move, but he did not leave either.
Until he stopped coughing, looked up at him as if he wanted to say something but hesitated, remembering his earlier sarcasm, yet not knowing where to begin.
He raised his hand, sighed softly, and said with a tone full of helplessness, "You can go now."
Si Jiliang had a cold smile on his lips as he got up and left.
Jiang Ran was caught off guard and was about to dodge when Si Jiliang opened the door to meet her.
When he saw her at the door, he frowned, and the two looked at each other, the atmosphere becoming slightly awkward for a moment.
"You heard everything?" Si Jiliang asked coldly.
Jiang Ran was about to deny it, but then she remembered that she had been caught red-handed, so she could only gesture with her hands and force herself to reply, "A little bit."
Si Jiliang glanced at her sideways, scoffed coldly, and decided not to delve into the matter, then strode away.
Jiang Ran watched his retreating figure and sighed softly, never expecting him to have such a difficult past.
He slowly shook his head, a hint of regret in his eyes.
She then entered the study, where Old Master Si beckoned to her and gave a stiff smile: "Sit down."
Jiang Ran sat down opposite him in response, and then heard him ask, "When did you arrive?"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran pursed her lips and replied softly, "It's been a while."
She didn't intend to hide it from him. Unlike Si Jiliang, Old Master Si was different. Even if Si Jiliang knew the truth, he couldn't do anything about it.
But if she lies to Old Master Si, he can find out by checking the surveillance footage, and the deception would be meaningless.
Old Master Si nodded, his expression unchanged, and slowly said, "I'm sorry you had to see this."
"How could that be?" Jiang Ran waved her hands repeatedly: "Every family has its own problems."
Old Master Si could not hide his exhaustion and suddenly said, "He is my son, but due to external reasons, it has not been announced, and very few people know about it."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran feigned surprise, looking extremely shocked: "You have a child?"
Although she knew beforehand, she couldn't let Old Master Si find out, otherwise he would only think she had ulterior motives and secretly investigate him.
"Um."
"Knock knock knock--"
Just then, there was a knock on the door. The butler pushed the door open and entered. When he saw Jiang Ran, his expression changed.
Then she walked to Old Master Si's side and said softly, "I just ran into him. Did he say something unpleasant again?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Jiang Ran, seemingly not wanting her to hear any more.
Jiang Ran lowered her eyes slightly, pretending not to have seen anything.
Knowing what the housekeeper was thinking, Old Master Si waved his hand and said, "It's alright, she already knows about his existence."
"What?" The butler looked shocked and glanced at Jiang Ran thoughtfully.
He hesitated for a moment, but didn't say anything more.
When she spoke again, she didn't evade the question like before. Seeing that the old man's expression was rather unpleasant, she slowly brought him a cup of hot water.
She gently comforted him, "Don't force yourself. No matter how good you are to someone who can't be won over, it won't help."
As he spoke, there was a hint of disdain in his words.
In his view, illegitimate children like this are not worthy of being discussed in public, yet they act superior, which makes him even more disgusted.
In particular, every time he came here, the old man would get so angry that he would fall seriously ill, so he disliked him even more.
Jiang Ran, who was listening nearby, found the words rather harsh. Thinking about what she had just heard, she couldn't help but feel wronged for Si Jiliang.
Thinking of this, she frowned slightly and said to herself, "If he can't be tamed, will he come to deliver medicine?"
After saying that, she looked up at the butler and said, "Can't you see his concern?"
The butler, hearing Jiang Ran speak up for him, flashed a hint of displeasure: "What do you know?"
Jiang Ran sneered: "I may not know anything, but I have eyes and I can see."
"At least I'm not blinded by prejudice like you are."
"You!" The butler had never been treated like this before and was about to retort.
Grandpa Si pulled him aside at the right moment, then asked Jiang Ran, "What you said... is it true?"
Jiang Ran's expression softened slightly, and she replied, "Anyway, that's what I saw. Besides, I met him today before that."
"Hmm?" Old Master Si looked puzzled. "How did you two end up meeting?"
“I ran into him when I went to buy medicine for you today. He bought the same medicine as me. I was wondering about it at the time, but now it seems he must have bought it for you.”
After Jiang Ran finished speaking, she glanced at the table and saw the pills that Si Jiliang had sent.
A hint of tenderness flashed in Old Master Si's eyes, and then he heard Jiang Ran continue, "Moreover, this involves buying Chinese herbs and making the pills yourself according to the dosage. The pharmacy is only responsible for getting the herbs and decocting them, but it won't handle this kind of tedious work."
"It goes without saying..."
Jiang Ran only spoke halfway through her sentence, but Old Master Si understood the unspoken meaning behind it.
His expression changed slightly, and his eyes reddened involuntarily.
Jiang Ran shut up at the right moment, saying that she had said enough, and what they thought was their business. Then she lowered her eyes, took out a pill, and handed it to him, saying softly, "Didn't we agree that I would be responsible for your illness? This is a pill I ground. Take one every three days to relieve your symptoms."
"It will take effect after one course of treatment."
Old Master Si reached out and took it, and the butler quickly spoke up from the side: "Who knows if this thing is clean or not?"
Jiang Ran listened to his words, a hint of helplessness flashing in her eyes, knowing that he meant well and was thinking of the old man.
Isn't that a bit too much hostility towards me?
Hearing this, Old Master Si was worried that Jiang Ran would be displeased, so he quickly said, "What kind of talk is this?"
The butler remained silent but did not back down.
Seeing this, Jiang Ran sighed softly, picked up a pill and swallowed it raw, then spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
"Alright, I'll test the poison first."
The butler looked displeased, and Old Master Si glared at him as well. He quickly explained, "That's not what we meant."
Jiang Ran waved her hand, completely unconcerned.
Grandpa Si looked ashamed. He thought about how she was acting out of filial piety, yet the person beside him was so wary of her, and he couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
The butler realized that he had said something hurtful, but it was impossible for him to apologize. He softened his expression slightly and handed the butler a glass of water.
Jiang Ran looked at him and couldn't help but curl the corners of her lips. He really was showing everything with his actions.
Grandpa Si reached out and took the pill, then felt the tightness in his chest instantly subside.
Sensing the changes within his body, he exclaimed in shock, "Is this medicine really that miraculous?"
Jiang Ran smiled slightly. In fact, Si Jiliang already knew the prescription. Their prescriptions were exactly the same, except that she had an extra ingredient in her prescription, which could suppress the yin energy in his body.
As a result, it was extremely effective, while Si Jiliang's method was only a temporary solution and the suppression was slower.
The butler, listening to Old Master Si's words, also looked at Jiang Ran with surprise.
"Do you feel a warm sensation flowing through your body right now?" Jiang Ran asked.
"Um."
“That means the medicine is working. We need to do acupuncture again to spread the heat to the limbs and bones for even better results,” Jiang Ranfu said.
"Okay," Old Master Si replied.
Jiang Ran held the silver needles and inserted them into the corresponding acupoints as before. Old Master Si clearly felt that the swelling and pain were much less than last time.
After completing the entire process, Jiang Ran had a few beads of sweat on her forehead. This process required spiritual energy as a medium, so it was natural for her to feel tired.
Seeing this, the butler's eyes flashed, and he handed over a tissue.
Jiang Ran was slightly taken aback, then said, "Thank you."
After putting on his shirt, Old Master Si's complexion improved compared to before, and he couldn't help but praise, "I didn't expect you to have such a skill. I feel much more comfortable now."
Jiang Ran smiled gently, wiped the silver needles with alcohol, and then placed them in the acupuncture kit.
When did you learn that?
