Chapter 148 Feigning Illness

Chapter 148 Feigning Illness

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran hurriedly stood up and quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, I'll go back right away."

She hung up the phone after saying that. Jiang Yuechen noticed her anxious expression and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes: "What's wrong?"

“Ah Lin said Ah Chen is very ill, I have to go back and check on him.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuechen frowned slightly, a hint of worry flashing across his face. He quickly asked, "I'll go with you."

"No need, no need." Jiang Ran picked up the car keys, looked down at Jiang Yuechen, and said softly, "Brother, Si Yanxiao is unaware of our relationship. If you go now, you will inevitably run into him."

"Don't worry, I'll go check it out first, and I'll let you know as soon as anything happens."

Hearing Jiang Ran's comforting words, Jiang Yuechen lowered his eyes slightly and replied softly, "Okay."

After hearing this, Jiang Ran reached out and patted his shoulder lightly before walking towards the door.

Jiang Yuechen watched her figure gradually disappear from sight, then lowered his eyes to look at his legs, his expression unreadable.

After leaving the hospital, Jiang Ran drove directly to the villa, parked the car upstairs, and quickly walked upstairs.

He walked straight to their bedroom, knocked lightly on the door twice, and pushed it open before waiting for a reply.

Si Zuochen was leaning against the bedside, his face pale, while Si Youlin stood by his side, his expression full of anxiety.

Jiang Ran walked to the bedside and saw Si Zuochen close his eyes and turn his head to the side.

Si Youlin quickly spoke up from the side, "You've come!"

Jiang Ran nodded slightly, reached out and gently touched Si Zuochen's forehead, then frowned: "Why is he so hot? Aren't you going to take him to the hospital?"

Si Youlin quickly spoke up to explain, "The family doctor has already come and prescribed fever reducers, but there's been no improvement, and the patient is still vomiting and having diarrhea."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran's expression hardened. Just as she was about to take his pulse to check his physical condition, Si Youlin suddenly spoke up to stop her.

"etc!"

A look of surprise flashed across Jiang Ran's face, then she turned around and asked, "What's wrong?"

Si Youlin glanced at him and casually said, "The doctor saw me and said it's because I have pent-up emotions and something on my mind that's causing this."

"Something on your mind?" Jiang Ran's eyes sharpened, and she looked down at Si Zuochen, her face full of doubt.

Seeing this, Si Youlin was worried that she might overthink things and was about to explain when Si Yanxiao pushed the door open and entered from outside, a look of anxiety flashing across his face.

His gaze swept across the room and he noticed Jiang Ran was still there. His expression instantly turned cold, but for the sake of the two children, he refrained from directly mocking her.

Then he walked to the bedside, looked down at Si Zuochen, and before he could ask any questions, Si Youlin explained Si Zuochen's condition from the side.

Si Yanxiao nodded slightly as he listened, looking thoughtfully at Si Zuochen, who had his eyes closed.

Jiang Ran was anxious and unwilling to be under the same roof as Si Yanxiao, so she spoke up.

"Then I'll go brew some Chinese medicine for him." With that, he turned and left.

Si Youlin glanced at Si Yanxiao, nodded, and followed him out.

The room fell silent instantly. Si Yanxiao pulled up a chair and looked quietly at Si Zuochen, then suddenly said in a low voice, "Stop pretending."

Upon hearing this, Si Zuochen's eyes flickered almost imperceptibly.

Then Si Yanxiao spoke up again, saying, "Why wouldn't you call Zhou Jinyan if you're sick? Besides, the water in the pool is still steaming."

Seeing that Si Yanxiao had seen through the truth, Si Zuochen opened his eyes, got up and leaned against the bed. His gaze swept over the bathroom door, which was not closed, and he could see that the sink was full of hot water.

He immediately understood and couldn't help but admire Si Yanxiao's thoughtfulness.

Then, she pursed her lips slightly, not denying it: "You guessed it."

Si Yanxiao lowered his eyes to look at him, his gaze full of scrutiny, and asked softly, "Why did you do this?"

Si Zuochen listened, a hint of hesitation flashing across his face, while Si Yanxiao remained silent and did not urge him on.

After a long silence, Si Zuochen bit his lip, no longer trying to hide his feelings. He looked up at Si Yanxiao with a serious expression and asked directly, "And what about you? Why do you insist on getting a divorce?"

Seeing that he had changed the subject, Si Yanxiao's face showed a hint of confusion: "What is the connection between these two things?"

“Of course there is.” Si Zuochen said coldly, “If I don’t pretend to be sick, she will stay in the hospital for a long time and won’t even think about coming back. And you? If you stay in the study for a long time, you won’t pay any attention to us either.”

"I don't want to know who you went to so much trouble to find recently, nor do I want to hear any of your explanations. In short, the only woman Grandpa acknowledges as the mistress of the Si family is her."

As he spoke, he paused slightly, his expression turning serious, his tone resolute: "Ah Lin and I only have her as our mother, Daddy. Let me make this clear beforehand: if you want to bring someone else back, don't blame us for disrespecting her." Si Yanxiao sensed the threat in his words, his expression instantly turning cold, a hint of chill appearing in his eyes.

Si Zuochen met his gaze slowly, showing no fear whatsoever.

He didn't want to go against his father, but Jiang Ran's words kept echoing in his ears, and he realized that if he remained indifferent and did nothing, he would be wasting her good intentions.

Si Yanxiao never imagined that these words came from his heart. He only thought that they were the result of Jiang Ran's usual flattery of them, and that the meaning behind these words was mostly taught by Jiang Ran.

Thinking of this, a sharp glint flashed in Si Yanxiao's eyes, and then he said coldly, "You are still young and don't understand many things yet."

“Daddy.” Si Zuochen responded, “You don’t need to treat us like children. These are things that Ah Lin and I have thought through before saying.”

Si Yanxiao listened with displeasure, suppressing his displeasure, and said to persuade her: "Have you thought it through? You are just blinded by appearances. Jiang Ran is far more complex than she seems."

“She approached you intentionally.” He paused briefly, then sighed softly, “You still can’t judge people well.”

Si Zuochen listened to his advice, pursed his lips slightly, and remained silent. Seeing that the two were at odds, he was afraid that if they continued to discuss it, it would only lead to an unpleasant situation.

Without saying a word, Si Yanxiao knew that there was no point in saying anything more, so he got up on his own.

He spoke slowly, "Think carefully about what I'm about to say."

After saying that, he turned and left. Si Zuochen watched his back, his eyes flashing, and he fell into deep thought.

On the other side, Jiang Ran was brewing Chinese medicine for Si Zuochen, while Si Youlin helped out. He glanced at Si Yanxiao and noticed him slowly walking downstairs. He gave him a meaningful look before turning and walking towards the door.

Si Youlin raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. He walked to Jiang Ran's side and said softly, "I'll go check on how my brother is."

"Okay, sure." Jiang Ran replied in a low voice without turning her head.

Si Youlin walked upstairs, and as soon as he entered the room, he saw Si Zuochen looking thoughtful and preoccupied.

He quickly asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"

Si Zuochen snapped out of his daze and pursed his lips: "Daddy knows I was faking illness."

Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise flashed across Si Youlin's face: "How could that be?"

Si Zuochen didn't offer any further explanation. His expression changed, and he said, "It's alright. Anyway, the reason for faking illness is just for Jiang Ran's sake. As long as we keep it from her, it's fine."

After saying that, she looked up at Si Youlin and asked again, "What is she doing now?"

"Prepare the medicine," Si Youlin replied in a low voice.

Si Zuochen recalled Jiang Ran's anxious words earlier, and a warm feeling rose in his heart.

Then, her eyes flashed, and she instructed, "Go and heat up the handkerchief again. I'll put it on my forehead so she won't suspect anything."

"Okay." Si Youlin set about doing it.

Not long after Si Youlin left, Jiang Ran also put the Chinese medicine in a bowl, placed it on a plate, and served it.

As soon as he entered, he saw Si Youlin acting like a thief. Upon hearing the sound, he quickly pulled something out and hid it behind his back, looking somewhat flustered.

Jiang Ran saw this, placed the medicine on the table, a look of doubt flashing across her face, and asked directly, "What are you holding in your hand?"

"It's nothing." Si Youlin shook his head repeatedly and took a few steps back.

Jiang Ran was even more puzzled. She walked directly up to him and held out her hand: "Give it to me."

Si Youlin pursed his lips slightly and reluctantly handed the things behind him to her.

Jiang Ran looked closely, her face showing confusion.

It's just a handkerchief, why act like a thief with a guilty conscience?

He immediately reached out and took it, and suddenly felt that it was slightly hot to the touch.
