Chapter 81 Revealing the Inside Story
Jiang Ran glanced at him sideways and slowly said, "You've followed me time and time again, and I've just pretended not to know. Do you really think that what you've done goes unnoticed?"
Hearing her explanation, Si Zuochen suddenly came to his senses: "No wonder Uncle Anan was so timely, it turns out you were the one who notified him."
Jiang Ran raised an eyebrow slightly, but did not deny it.
"I just didn't expect you to dare to follow Lu Ziyi. You know what kind of person he is, yet you still dared to take the risk alone."
"What? You're so eager to find something on me?" he said, a hint of mockery flashing across his face.
Si Zuochen pursed his lips and retorted, "Shouldn't we ultimately blame you for your improper conduct? If you were strict with yourself, why would I have resorted to such a drastic measure?"
Hearing his sophistry, Jiang Ran's eyes flashed with disdain, and she scoffed coldly, "Even now you still won't admit your recklessness?"
After saying that, he retorted, "It was clearly because you acted without authorization that this happened, but now you're trying to shirk responsibility."
"The cause may have been me, but the decision to make all of this is yours!"
Upon hearing this, Si Zuochen lowered his gaze, and Jiang Ran's reprimand stirred up ripples in his heart.
He knew he hadn't thought things through this time, but Jiang Ran's detached attitude made him resentful.
What right does she have to stand aside and reprimand me in such a condescending tone?
Thinking of this, Si Zuochen's gaze darkened slightly as he swept over her, and the fleeting sense of guilt he had shown earlier vanished instantly.
A look of disdain crossed her face as she said coldly, "Who knows what you and that man are plotting? After all, you have ulterior motives; you even handed over the Si family's possessions to someone else."
"What if he has malicious intentions and wants to harm Grandpa? I'm doing this to protect him!"
Seeing Si Zuochen standing on the moral high ground criticizing her, a hint of mockery flashed in Jiang Ran's eyes.
"Protect him? What a joke!" she said with a sneer. "Your way of protecting him is to let him get kidnapped on your own initiative, causing a whole bunch of trouble and making others worry?"
"If this is what you call protection, then I truly feel sorry for the old man!"
After saying that, Jiang Ran glanced at him sideways, a hint of disappointment flashing across her face.
Si Zuochen noticed the change in her expression and couldn't help but feel a sense of doubt.
Did he just see a hint of disappointment in her eyes?
But where does disappointment come from if there are no expectations?
He closed his eyes briefly to calm his thoughts, then said coldly, "Is it any of your business to meddle?"
Jiang Ran looked at his rebellious expression and scoffed, "Don't you feel guilty saying that? If it weren't for me, you wouldn't know where you would be right now."
Upon hearing this, Si Zuochen's expression changed slightly. Gu Nan had indeed mentioned it, and it was thanks to Jiang Ran that he was able to find him this time.
Jiang Ran's eyes darkened slightly, and her voice was low and cold as she warned, "I advise you to behave yourself. If there's a next time, I won't clean up this mess for you!"
"Behave yourself?" A hint of disdain flashed in Si Zuochen's eyes. "What right do you have to warn me?"
Having said that, a sneer appeared on his face, and he said in a cold, mocking voice, "Are you really planning to use this to talk about for the rest of your life?"
Hearing his sarcasm, Jiang Ran's face darkened, and she then said with a self-deprecating laugh, "Since you won't listen to reason, there's no point in me saying anything more. You'd better take care of yourself."
After saying that, he got up and left.
She didn't have the energy to constantly outwit them; she had already made herself perfectly clear, and whether he listened or not was up to him.
On the other side, after hearing about this, Old Master Si flew into a rage. Gu Nan and the butler exchanged glances, a hint of unease flashing between them.
"What exactly happened? Don't tell me it was an accident twice in a row!" Old Master Si said with displeasure, slamming his cane hard on the ground.
Gu Nan lowered her head, pondering how to respond.
The old man is furious right now; otherwise, he wouldn't have insisted on calling him in when he knew he was holding a board meeting.
If she told the truth, it would probably implicate many people. Gu Nan recalled Jiang Ran's anxiety when she was looking for someone yesterday, and her eyes flashed as she intentionally tried to hide the truth.
Seeing Gu Nan hesitate, Old Master Si couldn't help but frown slightly: "Speak up."
Gu Nan looked up at him and saw the old man looking at her seriously, his eyes full of sharpness, obviously blaming her for not protecting Si Zuochen well.
Under scrutinizing gazes, Gu Nan felt a little guilty, but still said, "It's a long story, and we haven't found out the truth yet."
"Still haven't found out?" Old Master Si's eyes narrowed. "Who is that person?"
Gu Nan pursed her lips slightly, hesitating about how to speak, when a sudden voice came from behind her, and she took the opportunity to continue the conversation.
"That person has been taken to the police station, and the interrogation will be handled there."
Upon hearing this, Gu Nan turned around and looked surprised.
Was it him?
Yesterday, they rescued Si Zuochen's people before they could.
Si Jiliang noticed that his gaze was fixed on him, so he turned his head and gave a polite nod as a greeting.
Gu Nan nodded in response.
When the butler saw Si Jiliang arrive, a hint of struggle flashed across his face. Although he disliked him, Jiang Ran's words from last time still seemed to echo in his ears.
Did I really misunderstand him?
Old Master Si's eyes lit up, then he noticed their interaction and a hint of doubt flashed across his face: "You two know each other?"
Gu Nan nodded and replied, "It was all thanks to this person yesterday that we were able to bring the kidnapper to justice and rescue Achen."
"Oh?" Old Master Si raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. He looked at Si Jiliang, as if seeking confirmation: "Really?"
"It was just a coincidence for me too." Si Jiliang paused slightly as he spoke.
He spoke of it casually, but to onlookers, it sounded quite different. How could such a coincidence happen, unless it was intentional?
At this moment, even Grandpa Si began to take Jiang Ran's words seriously. Could it be that he was secretly and quietly concerned about her?
If they truly disliked the Si family on the surface, why would they get involved in this mess?
Thinking of this, the old man's eyes softened as he looked at him.
Si Jiliang then explained, "It's just that he was playful and that unscrupulous people took advantage of him."
Just as he said this, Jiang Ran happened to walk outside the door and heard him say it.
Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise flashed through my mind. He actually spoke up for me?
Did the sun rise in the west?
Gu Nan glanced at him sideways, then looked away, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
Was he deliberately trying to clear Jiang Ran's name, or did he genuinely not know who that person was?
Jiang Ran paused slightly before slowly walking into the hall.
Looking at everyone present, he feigned surprise: "Why are you all here?"
Old Master Si's expression softened slightly, and he asked softly, "How is Ah Chen?"
Jiang Ran smiled slightly: "It's nothing serious, I can be discharged anytime."
"That's good." Old Master Si nodded, his worry easing slightly.
Jiang Ran glanced to the side and met Si Jiliang's gaze. Seeing the disdain in his eyes, Jiang Ran couldn't help but frown slightly.
What a strange person.
One second they're making excuses for themselves, the next they're treating them like enemies.
Speechless, she shifted her gaze away from him, then looked at the old man again, and softly comforted him, "Don't worry, thankfully nothing happened to him."
Old Master Si pursed his lips, a hint of hostility flashing across his face: "Luckily he's alright. If he had been even slightly injured, I would have made that person pay with their life!"
As he spoke, his words were sharp, and his usual kind and gentle demeanor vanished instantly.
Jiang Ran was not surprised at all. After all, he was a person who had been on the battlefield and later dominated the business world. It would be strange if he didn't have a bit of ruthlessness.
Then the old man looked at Gu Nan, a hint of ruthlessness in his eyes, and said, "Go to the police station and tell them not to let him have it so easy."
"Okay." Gu Nan nodded slightly.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ran looked at Si Jiliang with some surprise. So, his previous visit to the police station was an act of deliberation, a false message conveyed by someone else.
Si Jiliang happened to turn his head and look over. The two looked at each other, their eyes meeting in an ambiguous way.
Grandpa Si didn't see through the intricacies of the situation. He looked at Jiang Ran and asked in a gentle tone, "What are you carrying in your hand?"
Jiang Ran then remembered her business, placed the lunchbox on the table, and explained, "This is a medicinal meal I made, which complements the previous medicine and has an auxiliary effect."
"You can even make medicinal cuisine?" Old Master Si looked surprised, then chuckled, "You seem to know quite a lot."
Jiang Ran smiled slightly, but did not refuse: "I will have acupuncture today."
