Chapter Thirty-One: Surveillance

Chapter Thirty-One: Surveillance

Just then, a servant came from outside the door to announce that Gu Nan had come to visit.

Upon hearing this, Old Master Si repeatedly said, "Quickly, let him in."

As soon as he finished speaking, Gu Nan slowly walked in from outside the door.

Seeing that Old Master Si and the butler nodded slightly, they said, "Uncle Chen, Uncle Si."

Old Master Si smiled slightly and said repeatedly, "Please sit down."

“Okay.” Gu Nan sat down to the side and smiled gently. “If Uncle Chen hadn’t told me you were back today, I wouldn’t have known.”

"Why didn't you let me know in advance so I could pick you up?"

Grandpa Si waved his hand: "It's nothing. The company is very busy, and I thought I wouldn't bother you with such a small matter."

"What are you saying?" Gu Nan quickly said, "How can company matters compare to yours?"

Seeing Gu Nan's playful expression, a look of affection appeared on Old Master Si's face.

Then, with a smile and a soft sigh, she said, "You've really had a tough time these past years..."

The Si family and the Gu family are both prominent families, one is a businessman and the other is an artist. Gu Nan and Si Yanxiao have known each other since childhood and have always been inseparable.

Later, when Si Yanxiao took over the company at a young age, his foundation was not stable, so Gu Nan helped him from the side. Originally, they agreed on a three-year agreement that after Si Yanxiao had settled the company, he would continue to study abroad.

Unexpectedly, a car accident disrupted all their plans.

"It's not hard work." Gu Nan shook her head and said gently, "Ayan is currently unconscious, and this is all I can do for him." Old Master Si knows his talent in music, and as long as he is willing, he will definitely have a place in that industry.

He still remembers that scene; he was asked if he wanted to leave.

Gu Nan looked at Si Yanxiao lying on the hospital bed, her eyes moist, but her tone was exceptionally firm: "I won't leave. I will protect the Si family for him."

Recalling the past, a hint of emotion flashed across Old Master Si's face, and he said softly, "How fortunate Ayan is to have such a dear friend as you."

Gu Nan felt a little embarrassed and chuckled, "Uncle Si, actually I didn't make such a big contribution. The company is operating in an orderly manner, and I was just in charge of supervision."

“Every time you say that, it makes me feel like I’m the only one who can save the company.”

Hearing his joke, Old Master Si and the butler exchanged a glance and chuckled.

"Alright, enough with the sentimentality. Tell me, how are those two children doing while I was away?" Old Master Si changed the subject, his words revealing concern.

Gu Nan paused abruptly while drinking tea, then replied as usual, "It's great. Her academic performance is among the best in the class, and she gets along very well with her classmates."

To avoid worrying the old man, he did not mention the unpleasant things that had happened recently.

Even if there were people targeting them before, after this incident, their parents will probably know how to raise their children.

After hearing this, Old Master Si revealed a meaningful expression, shook his head, and slowly said, "Anan, I want to hear the truth."

Gu Nan was taken aback and looked up at him. She heard Old Master Si continue, "You drink water all the time when you lie. This habit has never changed."

Upon hearing this, Gu Nan glanced at the cup in her hand and pursed her lips.

Grandpa Si continued, "You don't need to only report the good news. I want to know everything about them, good or bad. As their grandfather, I should know."

Gu Nan lowered her eyes, and when she spoke again, she told him about their daily life and the provocations from their classmates.

"What?" Old Master Si frowned and slammed his cane on the ground. "He's just a child, yet he dares to ridicule others like this and bully others. What will he be like when he grows up?"

He initially thought it was just a childish squabble, but he never expected it to escalate into a personal attack.

Gu Nan quickly comforted them, saying, "I think the two children are quite capable. Although they got into a fight, they didn't suffer any losses. Moreover, after Madam appeared, her words were sharp, and she gave the children's parents a good scolding."

"Jiang Ran?" Old Master Si raised an eyebrow: "She was there too?"

Gu Nan nodded: "Yes, but I went there halfway through. She called me in time, and that's how I found out and rushed over."

"What did she say?" Old Master Si asked, his eyes filled with hope.

"Hmm..." Gu Nan hesitated slightly before recounting the scene.

"What surprised me the most was this: she protected them the whole time, and she didn't back down even when the other party tried to attack her."

Gu Nan then voiced her concerns.

Compared to his concerns, Old Master Si couldn't hide his joy upon hearing this.

He said to the housekeeper, "I told you, she still loves the children very much."

The butler smiled upon hearing this, then turned to look at Gu Nan thoughtfully.

Seeing that Grandpa Si looked very comforted, Gu Nan lowered her eyes and kept the fact that she had gone to see another man a secret.

There's no point in saying more; it's better to give him something to look forward to.

After sitting for a while and chatting about everyday things, Gu Nan made an excuse that she had to leave because of company business.

"I'll come see you another day."

"Okay." Old Master Si seemed very happy: "Jiang Ran also said she would come, so you can all come together."

Gu Nan lowered her head, concealing the surprise in her eyes, and replied, "Okay."

The butler walked beside him and said, "Let me see you out."

Gu Nan nodded slightly: "Thank you, Uncle Chen."

The two walked towards the villa entrance. Gu Nan's expression was no longer as composed as before; instead, she seemed somewhat conflicted.

The butler glanced at him, noticing his hesitant expression, pursed his lips, and said in a deep voice, "Anan, there are some things the old man can't get involved in. You are one of the few people who can have contact with them, so you must keep a close watch on her."

"This woman is no pushover." With that, the butler shook his head, his face full of displeasure.

Those involved are often confused, while bystanders see things clearly.

Only the old man could be fooled by her momentary pretense.

"I will be careful," Gu Nan replied slowly.

The butler nodded and added, "As for the old man, we don't ask for anything else, just that he is in good health."

"Don't let those troublesome things bother him. As long as she doesn't go too far, just turn a blind eye and it will pass."

Gu Nan's heart sank, and she forced a smile: "Yes, I understand."

Meanwhile, inside the villa...

"Haven't you come back yet?" Jiang Ran asked in a deep voice as she sat in the restaurant.

"Not yet, madam."

She was unusually eager to have dinner with them today, but even after reheating the food twice, they still hadn't returned, and she couldn't reach them by phone.

Thinking of this, Jiang Ran frowned, a hint of unease appearing on her face.

She couldn't figure out their location by making hand gestures, and at first she thought it was because she didn't have enough spiritual power, but now it seems there's something else going on.
