Chapter 170 Changes

Chapter 170 Changes

Listening to her words of advice, Si Zuochen and Si Youlin felt a warmth rising in their hearts and their opinion of Jiang Ran changed significantly.

It wasn't until the director gave them special attention and words of comfort that the two reluctantly returned to their own ward.

Jiang Ran lowered her eyes and looked downstairs, her mind filled with a myriad of thoughts, and she couldn't help but recall the scene of Si Yanxiao taking the blame for her.

Despite their many disagreements, Jiang Ran's impression of him gradually improved after this incident, which at least showed that he was a responsible man.

They won't seize the opportunity to escape when they encounter danger, but will instead stand by and watch indifferently.

Thinking of this, Jiang Ran lowered her gaze slightly and walked out of the ward.

"The instructions issued by the company's board of directors last time are being carried out in an orderly manner by all departments, including the land in the suburbs..."

"Knock knock knock—"

Before Gu Nan could finish speaking, a sudden knock sounded at the door. She exchanged a glance with Si Yanxiao and then said in a deep voice, "Come in!"

Then they saw Jiang Ran push the door open and enter, and a look of surprise flashed across their faces.

Si Yanxiao hadn't seen her since he regained consciousness, and only learned that she was recuperating from her injuries after Gu Nan mentioned it to him intentionally or unintentionally.

Upon seeing her suddenly appear, he pursed his lips slightly, a barely perceptible hint of unease flashing across his face.

Seeing this, Gu Nan vaguely sensed that the atmosphere between the two was somewhat awkward, but it was clearly different from the previous tense atmosphere.

Having long been adept at reading people's expressions, he clearly felt that his presence was somewhat superfluous, so he quickly stood up to give up his seat and said, "You guys talk first."

Having said that, he walked out without waiting for Si Yanxiao to stop him.

The room was instantly empty except for the two of them staring at each other. Jiang Ran lightly touched the tip of her nose and coughed twice to ease the awkwardness.

He then walked to the chair next to the bed, sat down, and asked in a low voice, "How are you feeling?"

"It's nothing serious," Si Yanxiao replied in a low voice, his expression slightly cold. Jiang Ran pursed her lips and then said, "Thank you so much this time. If it weren't for you, I don't know what would have happened to Ah Lin and me."

Hearing her thanks, Si Yanxiao felt a slight surprise, but he didn't show it on his face.

His original impression of Jiang Ran was that she was hypocritical and arrogant, but he never expected that she would go alone to rescue the two children despite knowing that the mudslide was a landslide and the road ahead was full of dangers.

This suggests that her feelings for the two children were not entirely fake, as she had thought; there was genuine affection involved.

Si Yanxiao slowly pulled himself out of his thoughts, then replied coldly, "No need to thank me. I'm only doing this for the child. You don't need to overthink it."

He expressed his attitude in one sentence.

Jiang Ran didn't care at all and replied, "No matter who you did it for, you were spared because of you, so I should still express my gratitude."

After saying that, she lowered her eyes to look into Si Yanxiao's body and saw that there were no more marks of yin energy on his body, so she secretly felt relieved.

Then she stood up and slowly said, "Then you should rest well, I'll be leaving now."

"Hmm." Si Yanxiao replied in a rare deep voice.

Jiang Ran smiled slightly, turned around and left. She met Gu Nan, who was waiting outside the door, and nodded slightly as a sign of acknowledgment.

Watching her departing figure, Gu Nan turned and entered the ward.

Seeing Si Yanxiao looking thoughtful, Gu Nan raised an eyebrow and walked closer, teasingly asking, "What's going on?"

Si Yanxiao frowned, his expression turning slightly cold. He looked up at him, his eyes filled with confusion.

Gu Nan gestured towards the door with her chin, then continued, "Why does it feel like things have suddenly changed between you two?"

“What could be different?” Si Yanxiao frowned slightly. “Don’t make wild guesses. She just came to thank me for saving her.”

“I have made it clear that it is for the child's sake and has nothing to do with her.”

"Really?" Gu Nan's lips curled up slightly, a hint of mockery on her face, before she said, "If Ah Lin hadn't been by her side at the time, could you really have stayed out of it?"

Gu Nan's question struck Si Yanxiao like a thunderbolt, causing him to fall into deep thought.

Will it?

Can he really turn a blind eye, stand aside, and let her get hit?

The answer is of course no, but he is unwilling to admit that he can't bear to see her get hurt.

He replied with a cold expression, "That's different..."

"What's the difference?" Gu Nan retorted. "If it were an ordinary person, would you rather get hurt yourself than compromise the safety of others?"

"I never knew you were such a selfless person..."

After saying that, he chuckled, stepped forward, patted Si Yanxiao on the shoulder, and slowly said, "I still have to go to the company to handle some matters. You should think about it carefully."

Then he walked out on his own, leaving Si Yanxiao alone in the room, where all was quiet.

Si Yanxiao lowered his eyes slightly, a hint of struggle flashing in them. He vaguely sensed that his heart had begun to shift, and he had gradually started to care about Jiang Ran during their time together.

He was simply unwilling to admit it, since the two were on opposite sides and he couldn't afford to develop any other unusual feelings for her.

He immediately suppressed the throbbing in his heart, and when he looked up again, his face was already cold.

On the other side, Jiang Yuechen was extremely anxious because he couldn't contact Jiang Ran for several days in a row.

Jiang Ran looked at the hundreds of missed calls on her phone and quickly called back. Before she could even say that she was fine, Jiang Yuechen heard that she was at the hospital and immediately said that he would be there soon before hanging up.

Jiang Ran looked down at the phone that had been hung up and sighed softly to herself.

My brother is good in every way, except that he is too impatient when it comes to my affairs.

Less than half an hour later, Jiang Yuechen appeared in the hospital ward, pushing a wheelchair and rushing over anxiously: "Aran, how are you?"

Jiang Ran smiled slightly and replied softly, "I'm fine, don't worry."

"How could this happen?" Jiang Yuechen's gaze swept over her, and only after confirming that she was really alright did his heart finally settle down.

"You were previously under house arrest by Si Yanxiao, and then suddenly you were hospitalized! What's going on with the Si family?!"

Jiang Yuechen blamed all his resentment on Si Yanxiao. Seeing this, Jiang Ran quickly spoke up to explain, "It's not his fault."

He then recounted the whole story, emphasizing how Si Yanxiao had saved them in a very dangerous situation, in order to quell his prejudice against the Si family.

Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise flashed across Jiang Yuechen's face: "Really?"

"Really." Jiang Ran nodded heavily and replied in a deep voice.

"That's what he should do!" Jiang Yuechen scoffed, his tone still extremely harsh, but his expression softened slightly.

She had begun to have a slightly different opinion of Si Yanxiao, but she didn't show it on her face.

Fu then spoke up, saying, "One is his wife, and the other is his child. How can he just ignore them?"

Jiang Ran knew he was stubborn but soft-hearted, and her lips curled up slightly, but she didn't say anything more in favor of Si Yanxiao.

Jiang Yuechen was peeling fruit for Jiang Ran, and the scene instantly brought back memories of their previous meeting. The situation felt strangely familiar.

Jiang Ran suddenly chuckled softly: "Brother, it seems like the longest time we've spent together has been in the hospital."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yuechen snorted coldly and then said, "Then I would rather we didn't meet."

As Jiang Ran listened to his words, a warm feeling rose in her heart.

He never mentioned loving her, but his words and actions conveyed his pity for her.

Jiang Yuechen handed the peeled apple to Jiang Ran, and Jiang Ran opened her mouth.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and then the door was pushed open from the outside.

Jiang Ran looked up, a hint of surprise flashing across her face: "Why are you here?!"

Si Yanxiao's gaze swept over their slightly intimate actions before slowly settling on Jiang Yuechen, his eyes narrowing and his expression displeased.

Then, with a slight smirk, he coldly scoffed, "If I hadn't come, would I have witnessed such a spectacular scene?"

Jiang Ran knew he had misunderstood, so she quickly explained, "That's not how it is, you've misunderstood."

"A misunderstanding?" Si Yanxiao said with a cold, mocking tone, "Is that so?"

Her words were full of disbelief, and she looked at Jiang Yuechen with a cold gaze and a face full of disdain.

"Have you ever seen a perfectly healthy person need a woman to feed them fruit? Do you think I'm blind?"

Before Jiang Ran could even open her mouth to explain, Jiang Yuechen had already spoken up to retort, "Why are there so many formalities between siblings?"
