Chapter 1 Simple Time Travel

"ah!"

"Mom, be careful, don't let someone really die. Her mother just died, and everyone's watching."

"Okay, okay, I didn't use any force, I just gave her a light shake. Who knew she was so fragile?"

"Mom, Mom, she's bleeding! She can't die, can she?"

"No, no, come over here quickly. There's no one around right now. Take her back inside. We'll come over in a big way later, so no one will suspect anything."

......

A sharp pain shot through the back of her head, and Jian Dan abruptly opened her eyes. Instinctively, she tried to sit up and be alert, only to realize something was wrong. Her body was not obeying her commands.

"Who the hell drugged me?"

All around was quiet, and only then did Jian Dan realize that something was wrong.

The environment, the table, the decorations, the ornaments, and even the clothes she's wearing—everything about it exudes poverty and shabbiness, completely at odds with her own nouveau riche style.

Most importantly, how come it looks so much like the things in my grandparents' room back home?

Even more horrifying was that the pale little hand under the sleeve wasn't even her own.

That temper of hers—when she gets anxious, good heavens, she faints again.

Overwhelmed with anger, the body, having grown accustomed to the situation, quickly regained consciousness this time, though Jian Dan was left dumbfounded.

Although she enjoys reading novels, that's only true if it's someone else's story. But if it happens to her, who could stand it?

As a dignified heiress of the underworld, she ended up time-traveling after a violent fight. Who can she complain to?

"well!"

With a soft sigh, Jian Dan had no choice but to accept his fate.

After sorting through the original owner's memories, the only saving grace was that the family's economic conditions were not bad. Although they were not openly acknowledged, they were still quite good, so that the young lady would not be left without any transition period and would go straight to eating coarse food.

The original owner was simple, fifteen years old, a high school student. His ancestors and maternal grandfather were wealthy families for generations. The old man was wise and donated all of Mingming's family property to the government a few years ago, which brought him peace in the past few years.

The social environment in Beijing in 1959 was, according to the historical trajectory, almost the decade of great chaos. It was unknown whether this fictional world would follow the same trajectory, but there were already signs of it. Students were much less enthusiastic about attending classes than before, and there were often hooligans loitering on the streets. The atmosphere was tense, and neighbors had to be careful when they spoke to each other.

Jian Dan couldn't help but sigh repeatedly. Why did it have to be this time?

After donating their family property, the father joined the army and the mother went to work in a factory.

Then several elderly people passed away one after another.

Then came the news of her father's sacrifice. Her frail mother couldn't bear it and followed him in death.

The current situation is that the mother has just passed away, and the family of the fiancé the old woman had arranged to break off the engagement. During the argument, the original owner was pushed down by the man's mother. As a result, the other party dragged her back into the house and ran away without a care!

Then came the simple arrival.

"hiss!"

Thinking this, I touched the back of my head, and sure enough, I felt a sharp pain and touched a dried blood clot.

"No wonder you have no strength."

I staggered into the kitchen, leaning against the wall, and found a completely cold cornbread. Ignoring everything else, I ate it heartily without any hesitation, and drank it with cold water. Only after finishing two cornbreads did I feel satisfied.

"Phew! I never thought I'd be in such a sorry state."

Just as I was thinking of taking a nap to recover, the knocking on the door started again, accompanied by loud shouts. The Jian family now lived in a dormitory building assigned to the textile factory where Jian's mother worked. It wasn't soundproof, and with just a few shouts, several neighbors poked their heads out.

What are you people doing?

"Jian Dan, are you home? Aunt Wang is here to see you."

Then came a low male voice.

"Mom, is she dead?"

Jian Dan sneered inwardly; this grand display was quite impressive.

He slowly opened the door, leaning weakly against the doorframe.

"Auntie, Brother Jianshe,"

With bloodstains still on her pale face and head, Lin Jianshe and his mother were startled. They had originally wanted to go inside and talk quietly, but now they didn't dare and just wanted to finish the job quickly.

Wang Hongmei quickly organized her thoughts.

"Dandan, let me be frank with you. Our family is in a hurry for Jianshe to get married and have children. You are still too young, so let's call off this marriage! Here is the jade pendant that your mother brought for the engagement. Return the token, and the marriage between our two families will be called off."

She's in a real bind, and without even bothering to ask a single question, she just abruptly wants to annul the engagement. Looks like she's climbed the social ladder and is in a hurry.

Simple was feeling dizzy and didn't intend to get entangled with them, since the annulment of the engagement was to her liking anyway.

However, in the original owner's memories, the Lin family had taken advantage of this marriage quite a bit. The eavesdropping from upstairs and downstairs was incredibly obvious. Just thinking about this made the young lady very unhappy.

He casually tossed the jade pendant, which the original owner treasured, from his pocket.

“Aunt Wang, in principle, marriage should be based on mutual consent. Now that you have this idea, I should give my blessing, especially since I am just a little orphan with no one to rely on, and Brother Jianshe is a regular worker at the steel factory. I should also be aware of my own limitations.”

Hearing this, Wang Hongmei relaxed considerably. She glanced at it briefly, then changed the subject.

"I remember, my grandfather helped arrange the jobs for Brother Jianshe and Uncle, right?"

Wang Hongmei froze.

"What do you mean? Are you trying to cause trouble?"

"What are you saying, Auntie?" Jian Dan leaned against the wall, took a deep breath, and thought to herself, "This lousy physique is no good either."

"What kind of trouble could someone like me possibly cause? You're overthinking it. But if I remember correctly, my grandfather's condition for helping was that the good stuff stays within the family, right?"
