Chapter 268 No More Roast Chicken

Putting aside the issue of addressing each other, the two were in good spirits. The basket they carried had yielded quite a lot, and when they poured it onto the grass, there was a whole pile of fish of all sizes tumbling and leaping around, which was quite a sight.

"Alright, stop grinning like an idiot. Hurry up, take the bigger ones to the water's edge and clean them up. Throw the smaller ones back in. I'll rinse the Nordic-style water and put them back in a bit."

"Okay, sis!"

In my haste, I forgot about how to address people, and I didn't pay attention to the simple things either.

Li Guang's family was of modest means. He relied on his quick wit to get a good meal from a young age. However, after playing with Chen Jing and Gu Jianjun, they took good care of him.

During this period, we had to go to the countryside, and the three of us were also dealing with various problems. We all looked rather dull and listless. But when we saw the fish, we couldn't help but look at it with longing, as if we wanted to stick to it.

Jian Dan didn't think much of it; she just felt that since Lin Dongfang and Mingzhu were the ones who caught the fish, and although she was close to them, it wouldn't be right for them to eat it all. So she said to Li Guang...

"We'll pack them up in baskets and take them back. A few of us will grill some, and you can take the rest back and share them with Lin Dongfang."

"Oh, oh!" Li Guang had barely agreed when he realized something was wrong.

"That won't do. We all came up the mountain together. If we all stay behind, wouldn't that be like eating alone?"

"Okay then, you can get ready first, and then I'll..."

He swallowed back the words he was about to say, his ears twitched slightly, and he casually grabbed a fish and threw it out.

Almost simultaneously, a few trees away, a pheasant that was flapping its wings landed on the ground.

Jian Dan happily carried it back, only to be met with Li Guang's dumbfounded expression.

He had been here for a few days and heard from villagers and old educated youths that Jian Da was very impressive, but he never expected to see it with his own eyes.

He was completely unaware as the fish tail in his hand slapped against the back of his hand.

"Hey, what are you doing? Doesn't your hand hurt?"

Li Guang hurriedly tossed the fish aside, rubbing his hand which had been scratched by the fish scales, and exclaimed in amazement.

"Your technique is amazing!"

I was planning to place another basket, but I'm not doing it now.

"Hurry up and pack up so we can go back."

Jian Dan started to worry about the child and got anxious, so she tied the pheasant's arms together and went over to help Li Guang clean up.

After Jian Dan and the other two left, Cheng Chao didn't stop working either.

He put the child down, but didn't let go. He led the child around for a short while and then pulled back a few dry branches.

They went back to where they started, folded and folded things, moved to a larger open space nearby, and, estimating that they would be back soon, lit a fire.

After all that fuss, it was already noon, and Jian Xin was starving.

Cheng Chao found a simple basket nearby, but it only contained a thin layer of mushrooms. She had left in a hurry today and hadn't had time to pack water and food. Moreover, the child had been walking with Lin Dongfang the whole way, so she hadn't thought to prepare in advance. Having a basket meant she could cheat at any time, but she never expected that the basket would end up in Cheng Chao's hands first.

Cheng Chao's food was also in the package, which made him feel a little awkward.

Looking left and right,

"elder sister!"

Jian Dan had just returned home when she was immediately surrounded by her child.

"Alright, alright, are you hungry?"

Jian Xin looked a little aggrieved.

"Hmm, I'm hungry!"

Jian Dan looked up and saw her basket on her back. She glanced at Cheng Chao, said nothing, and reached into her shirt pocket to pull out two pieces of dried meat.

"Let her chew on this first," this thing is hard, and we don't usually give it to kids, but this is just right. This piece will keep her chewing for half a day, so she won't be in a hurry.

The fire was lit, the fish were back, and Jian Dan took out a packet of seasoning and handed it over. Cheng Chao took the lead as the head chef without hesitation, while Li Guang quietly assisted from the side, handing over fish and adding firewood with great ease.

"Hey? Why did you kill so many pheasants? I remember the pheasants on this mountain are very clever and fly very fast, so they're not easy to catch."

Jian Xin also turned her head to look and saw five or six pheasants, all with their wings tied, strung together in a row.

"We encountered them on the way back, and they were practically handed to us. We can't just let them go, can we?"

Upon seeing the chicken, Cheng Chao thought for a moment, and a dish immediately came to mind. He asked the child...

"Xin Xin, do you want some roast chicken?"

He and Jian Dan didn't stand on ceremony, and Jian Dan didn't seem to mind. Li Guang, on the other hand, was a little surprised. This was really quite impolite.

The little girl hesitated, looking at the fish, then at the struggling pheasant, and smacked her lips, asking...

"Is it tasty?"

Cheng Chao flipped the fish in his hand over.

"Of course it's delicious! Your sister still has mushrooms in her basket. She'll put them inside the pheasant, and when the pheasant is cooked, the mushrooms will be ready too."

Foodies have no resistance to delicious food; she immediately slurped it down, rolled her eyes, and...

"Why didn't you say so earlier? I'd have to go and clean it up again."

Li Guang hurriedly raised his hand, "I'll go, I'll go."

However, the timing was clearly not right. He had just finished speaking and hadn't even gotten up yet when a voice came from the direction they were coming from. Cheng Chao paused, realizing that the voice had arrived much faster than he had expected.

However, I understand that it was too early to talk about roast chicken; there's no hope for today, and the child is just worrying about it for nothing.

He got up, handed the grilled fish to Jian Xin, and patted her head.

"Xin Xin, it looks like we'll have to eat fish today. After I send this bad guy back, I'll come see you again, maybe tomorrow, or at the latest the day after. I'll make you a roast chicken at home, okay?"

This time, Lin Zhengde was leading the team, but Political Commissar Cheng Jin was also accompanying him. This impressive lineup surprised even Cheng Chao, let alone the simpler group.

"Are you all really necessary? You all came?"

After confirming that his wife was alright, Lin Dongfang followed her back. Seeing Cheng Chao get up, he went over and took over the task of grilling the fish. There were two more fish that were almost done, and the area was filled with the aroma of grilled fish and seasonings.

Lin Zhengde, his face dark, nodded to Jian Dan, glanced at the child intently eating fish, and then turned his gaze to Cheng Chao.

"Stop talking nonsense, where are they?"

Although Cheng Chao was confident in the simple key, he still found a rope and tied the man's hands and feet together, then tied a special knot, and even removed his jaw, making him look quite miserable.

"Tell me, what's going on?"

Cheng Chao's expression turned serious. He led his men inside, pointing and gesturing, glancing briefly before turning his gaze to Lin Dongfang.

"How is Mingzhu? Is she alright? I was so worried and I overlooked her special circumstances,"

To be honest, she felt quite guilty. If this affected the baby in her womb, how could she face her husband and mother in the future?

“Zhuzhu isn’t that delicate. She can move around normally after three months. Besides, you said it yourself, you’re just trying to protect them in case something happens.”

Everything's fine now, everyone's happy, and I still have this opportunity to talk to you about this and that. If something had really happened, I don't even want to think about the consequences.

Zhuzhu also said that if something really happens, their presence on the scene could easily disrupt your plans. Given their skills, by the time you run away, it will be too late, and nobody can predict what might happen then.
