Having been here for so long, Jian Dan naturally knows this, otherwise she wouldn't be here now to bring it up.
It's true that she couldn't stand it, and it's also true that she was cautious. She never considered herself a good person; she just did what she thought she could and should do when it was convenient.
If you asked her to unhesitatingly reveal all her cards to help others, she definitely couldn't do it, at least not now.
By exchanging some of the coarse grains, Jian Dan managed to save up quite a few mushrooms.
Jian Xin really loves to eat. Whether it's stewed chicken, stir-fried dishes, or even mushroom soup, she eats them with great satisfaction.
She brought back some more seedlings from the Liu family, and together with the few she had prepared herself, it took her and Jian Xin two days to finish planting them.
The garden was half-planted, with the outer half still empty. Jian Xin ran from one end to the other, then ran back.
"Sister, do you all grow watermelons?"
"Growing only watermelons might not be feasible; can you eat that many?"
"Yes," the little girl said, stretching out her arms in circles.
"I can eat so much, and I still have to give some to my uncle, to Brother Cheng Chao, to Brother Hu Zi, and to Third Grandfather,"
"Okay, stop it. You little worryer, just make more, alright?"
"Uh-huh,"
Planting half a garden of watermelons at this time is obviously impossible. Compared to last year's dozens of plants, this year's approach is certainly much simpler and more generous.
"Plant potatoes in these two rows, cabbage and radishes in this one, and green beans in these two rows. What else would you like to eat?"
"Sweet stalks, those are sweet,"
"Okay, I'll plant sweet sorghum on the two furthest rows, and watermelons next to them. We'll see what to plant on the rest of this plot later."
"OK,"
Just like last year, plant a few squash vines, a few horned melons, or a few melon seed vines in the nooks and crannies.
Not far from the wall in front, there was a small empty patch of land. Not knowing what to plant, I simply left it to the child.
What do you want to plant in this area?
"Do I have the final say?"
Seeing this, the little girl nodded simply, ran back into the house, and came out a moment later with her fists clenched.
Can this be grown?
At first glance, they were just a few peanuts in their shells. Whether Cheng Chao brought them or they had been dug out themselves, they couldn't remember.
"Want some peanuts?"
The little girl nodded and then shook her head.
"No, I eat, they watch and they're tempted, but they don't get any."
Simply put,
"You mean you want to grow them yourself and feed them?"
"They're all hungry, their stomachs are always rumbling, and sometimes they even have stomach aches,"
The little girl looked serious, clearly not joking. I don't know if it's right to have this kindness at this moment, but I'm still quite pleased.
Why would you think that?
"They were hungry and miserable. I've been hungry too, so I know."
Dad said it's okay to help others, but you have to ask an adult first. It's only okay if the adults say so, because it's the result of their labor.
"I see," he said, glancing briefly at his vegetable garden.
"What if it's all your work, or all the results of your own labor?"
"We shared the fruit we picked, one for each of us,"
Okay, I understand.
I took a quick look and have some thoughts.
Originally, when the west house was expanded, the back garden was also expanded to the west quite a bit. In fact, with such a large garden, there was almost enough food for the whole family.
There are only two people in her family. They live a simple life and often sneak out of the country. They can't possibly finish all the vegetables they grow. Even with such a big garden, there are still a lot left over for the two of them. They still have last year's squash in the cellar.
Thinking about it, Jian Du is like the wolf in sheep's clothing who lured Little Red Riding Hood.
"Xin Xin, do you want to grow your own things?"
"You'll be in control of what you grow yourself, then you'll have plenty to eat!"
"Yes, yes, really?"
"Really, really, if you want to eat watermelons, you can grow watermelons; if you want to eat peanuts, you can grow peanuts. The adults definitely won't accept what you grow, so you can eat them however you want."
Really?
This can be eaten however you like, which made Jian Xin's eyes widen. She tilted her head and asked Jian Dan for confirmation.
"They can eat however they want? And they can still get full?"
With a simple shrug,
"I don't know about that. Anyway, you can arrange it yourselves. If you collect more, you can eat as much as you want. But if you collect less..."
He paused briefly.
"The more you harvest, the more you eat; the less you harvest, the less you eat."
The little girl thought for a while, but was still somewhat unsure.
"Are you really letting us plant them all? And if we harvest the watermelons, we can eat as many as we want?"
"Um."
"What about the vegetables?"
"Too,"
The little girl clenched her fist and blurted out,
"What about meat? Can we eat it all we want?"
Easy, you're awesome.
"If you can grow meat, I promise I won't take it. It's all up to you."
"You keep your word?"
Simple and easy to use.
"You little brat, when have I ever gone back on my word?"
Jian Xin turned and ran out, while Jian Dan followed behind, laughing heartily.
They're just kids, they don't think farming is any easy job. But she's very pleased that the child has this idea and this heart, and knows how to find ways to benefit his friends.
Soon, a group of children rushed in. Leading the way was Jian Xin, followed by Hu Zi, Xiao Hua, and Hei Dan. Jian Xin couldn't quite recognize the other children, but they looked familiar, as she knew they were the ones she usually played with.
He stared intently at Jian Dan as soon as he came in; Tiger was definitely older.
"Sister Jian, is what Xin Xin said true? You really want us to grow it ourselves?"
