Chapter 3 Collecting Interest

At the beginning of the 1960s, there were natural disasters and initial chaos, with a few educated youth going to the countryside.

The prevailing phenomenon is poverty, very poverty, extreme poverty.

Despite having government awards, the original owner's identity as a descendant of a capitalist isn't guaranteed. It's too conspicuous. If all else fails, she could learn from the heroines in novels and find a place in the countryside to live a quiet life.

Looking at the stun gun in her hand, she remembered that there was still an attempted murderer outside. Thinking of this, her throat hurt even more. When had this young lady ever suffered such injustice? If she didn't get a chance to bleed, she wouldn't be so simple.

Ah, right, and the original owner's life too.

She stormed out of the room, but the person on the ground remained motionless. After a moment of preparation, she staggered out of the door. Wang Hongmei was still rummaging through the kitchen when Jian Dan was caught off guard and had already run into the stairwell.

Having witnessed the commotion, the neighbors were still chatting, not quite finished. A short while later, they saw the little girl wobbling out.

"Hey, isn't that simple?"

"What happened? Oh dear, what happened to your neck?"

They were gossipy, but they were also genuinely kind. As soon as they saw the bright fingerprints, some people ran out to look for her, while the others helped support her limp body.

"Jian girl, is this... is this Lin Jianshe?"

The simple yet difficult opening.

"Auntie, Brother Jianshe, it wasn't Lin Jianshe who didn't want to give me back my job! He, he, he's going to kill me! Waaah..."

The evidence was so obvious, there was no need to question it. Wang Hongmei screamed and ran out.

"Simple, you bitch, what did you do to my son? Why isn't he awake?"

He simply cowered pitifully, avoiding her gaze, and instead turned to make the mark on his neck even more visible.

Sure enough, the aunties and older women objected.

"What are you talking about? Look at the mess your son has made! I had no idea we had a murderer hiding among us!"

"That's right, Jian Dan was almost strangled to death by your son. Did he kill her just because things didn't go your way?"

"Even the landlords a few years ago weren't this domineering!"

"That's right. If I had such a dangerous person around, I wouldn't dare to go out anymore. You know, we don't know if they're in a good mood or not, and we might end up offending them."

"How could someone from our working class have such malicious thoughts?"

Then the discussion went even further off-topic.

"We're the working class, very simple and honest, so people might not be so sure,"

"Oh dear, that's quite possible. Every time you come before, you say it's easy, but you always come empty-handed and leave with big bags and small packages."

“No one can plunder like this when visiting relatives. I took a look at Jian Dan’s house yesterday, and all the good stuff is gone.”

"Do you remember yesterday, Jian went out fine, but when she came out today, her head was covered in blood? It seems like they came looking for Jian yesterday too."

Now that you mention it, it seems like I saw it too.

When the murderer uttered the first sentence, Wang Hongmei was stunned.

Once this reputation gets out, her son will be lucky to get jail time; he might even have to go to a farm for reform through labor. And what about his wife?

The factory area and the staff quarters are all in the same area, and Director Chen arrived in no time.

Without uttering a single word, the kind-hearted auntie explained the whole situation clearly and thoroughly. Chen Hongjun, his face grim, looked at Wang Hongmei on the stairs.

"Wang Hongmei, is that what happened?"

When Wang Hongmei came to her senses, she quickly denied it, but there were many people at the scene who thought they knew the truth. They accused Lin Jianshe one after another, and soon the police arrived and took him away. Jian Dan was also sent to the hospital.

The head wound and the fingerprints on his neck were genuine. Chen Hongjun left with a gloomy face. It was shameful, truly shameful. The steelworkers he led actually did such a thing, and the victim was a young girl who had just lost her parents, an orphan of a martyr.

Putting aside the fact that this is the orphan of a martyr, just considering the contributions of the two old men back then, they should have protected her. I feel ashamed.

After everyone left the ward, Jian Dan quickly sneaked a bite to eat to replenish her strength, and then breathed a sigh of relief. This day had been like a battle, no, it really was a battle.

I was sick and tired, but after taking the medicine, I fell asleep quickly.

I woke up suddenly in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep.

Lost in thought, pondering this and that, it suddenly occurred to him that Lin Jianshe was probably going to get away with this crime, and the Lin family would definitely spend money to pull strings and find someone to help him. Then...?

Suddenly, Jian Dan realized that it was her own money.

The job her grandfather gave her, and they turned around and bullied her. Giving her this money as compensation is perfectly reasonable.

I looked at the sky, then took out my watch and checked the time. It was one in the morning, the night was deep and quiet.

Excellent, the timing, location, and people are all in place. Let's go.

There were no night shifts at the hospital. After eating my fill and regaining some strength, and since the ward was on the first floor, I simply and decisively climbed out of the window.

The Lin family lives in the steel factory's staff quarters; they're all in the same area, so it's close and easy to find.

As someone involved in organized crime, picking locks and opening doors was naturally a basic skill for her (cough, this is just based on her past life, not something to be encouraged).

Upon entering, I put on a mask, gloves, shoe covers, and a sleeping potion. Although the floor was all concrete, caution was always the best policy. Only then did I boldly take out a flashlight and begin my treasure hunt.

She didn't intend to accept it all, as that could easily cause widespread panic. When people are in dire straits, they're capable of anything. She just wanted to scare them a little to vent her anger.

Lin Jianshe and Wang Hongmei were taken away together during the day, but it didn't affect Lin Tiesheng at all; he slept like a log as ever.

After a quick inspection, I started with the larger items: the wardrobe. Hmm, there was a box in the innermost corner. I opened it and saw a stack of banknotes, probably at least a thousand. I took it.

I casually flipped through the pages, and wow, they're really living a good life. Half of their clothes are unpatched, which is better than 99% of families these days. This family is something else.

There are two more quilts down there, wrapped up so tightly, they're new. Hmm, take all the new ones away.

Under the bed were two bags of grain, a basket of eggs, and oh, a small wooden box containing several pairs of newly made cloth shoes. Hmm, these can be stored away.

As she backed away, the flashlight slipped from her hand and fell to the foot of the bed with a crisp sound. Jian Dan's eyes lit up immediately. That hollow sound meant there was something underneath. I knew it! She was quite the expert at treasure hunting.

After some tapping and knocking, he found the exact spot, and with a gentle pry of his dagger, "click," the floorboards came out of a groove—oh no, it was a thin cement slab, yet another box. Jian Dan couldn't help but mutter, "Does he like boxes so much?"

However, it doesn't affect the results of her harvest. If she's hiding it like this, it must be something good.

Just as I was about to leave, a flashlight beam shone, and near the head of Lin Tiesheng's bed, the wall seemed to be a different color from the one next to it.
