Chapter 332 Encountering a Bear

The people behind, especially the new recruits, had somewhat ambiguous expressions when they saw a young girl leading the team, but they didn't dare to say anything because of military discipline.

The veteran in front had an expression that said, "You don't understand anything." As Jian Dan moved through the crowd as if it were nothing, he indeed drew a lot of dumbfounded stares, which was in stark contrast to those who thought, "As expected."

Lin Zi and Xiao Wu followed behind Cheng Chao. They were lively and not so restrained, chattering away.

The deeper they went, the quieter the voices in the group became. Everyone knew the dangers of the deep mountains, and at this moment, their attention was not only on their feet, but also on the possibility of an 'enemy attack' suddenly appearing from any direction.

People who have been on the battlefield often have a strong sense of ferocity, making them unsuitable for wild animals. Few of them will actively provoke them.

Aside from two wild boars that suddenly appeared and the two of them being bitten by a snake, everything went relatively smoothly along the way.

The closer we get, the more cautious we become. A night and a day have passed, and we still don't know if anyone has noticed.

Seeing this, the people behind also tensed up, not daring to make a sound.

"Front,"

He simply walked around in circles twice, scrambled up a tree, and quickly slid down with a red ribbon in his hand. He then found a mark he had made yesterday under the tree and breathed a sigh of relief.

"It's this tree."

Immediately, two people stood by the tree, seemingly ready to guard it.

Jian Dan ignored it and walked a little further, then gave Cheng Chao directions.

"Put aside the rocks in front, and you'll find the cave."

Fearing the other party would discover the traces, and not daring to move the tree that might be a trap, they deliberately moved a large stone to block the entrance before leaving.

Cheng Chao first settled her aside.

"Don't go in. Wait outside. If you hear any noise from inside, just come down the mountain. Understand?"

Is it because they're afraid of danger that might affect her?

"If it explodes inside, can I really hide here?"

Cheng Chao hesitated as expected.

"Don't worry, bro, I'll take you in, and I'll come right back."

She had absolutely no interest in the pile of bones.

Lin Zhengde nodded.

"Okay, we'll follow you. If we encounter any danger, we'll quickly move aside."

Entering the cave for the second time, with so many people following behind, Jian Dan wasn't as scared as she had been the day before. She quickly reached the innermost part, where the small door was just ahead. Jian Dan turned to look at Cheng Chao and Lin Zhengde.

"You need to be mentally prepared."

Their hearts sank again, and they nodded.

Simple turned around and walked back. She couldn't pass up this opportunity. She regretted not going inside yesterday, but she would go now. Anyway, they definitely wouldn't be able to finish in a short time.

After leaving the cave, Jian Dan continued his journey back into the mountains, just like yesterday.

We don't care what kind of medicinal herbs, fruit trees, or wild goats, deer, roe deer, or bison are delivered to our door; we just accept them.

She collected plenty of large ones, and also small ones like pheasants, ducks, rabbits, and even wild eggs. She didn't mind any of them, except that the water source wasn't nearby. Otherwise, she would have gone to the water's edge to find a whole bunch of wild duck eggs.

However, when you think about it, there are still more prey. After all, she doesn't really know many medicinal herbs. Apart from the more famous ones like ginseng, lingzhi, and he shou wu, she doesn't really recognize the others.

As we were about to head back, we encountered a black bear. It was standing on its hind legs, over two meters tall, with four short, thick hooves, a robust body, a round head, large ears, small eyes, and heavy paws. With each step it took, the ground trembled. It was heading straight towards the direction of the bear.

This was the first time she had ever seen such a thing. Putting everything else aside, just its height and size alone were quite intimidating.

Step by step, the ground trembled incessantly, and Jian Dan was shaken from side to side, forced to cling tightly to a tree, not daring to let go. Soon, the stench of blood and decay reached them.

Without hesitation, Jian Dan darted back a few meters and, taking advantage of the brief moment, quickly pulled out a handful of sleeping pills from the base's storage space and scattered them. He then pulled out a triangular knife and held it horizontally in front of his chest, keeping a close eye on the figure.

To speed up the effects of the medicine, and of course, to escape, they simply and directly led the black bear in circles.

The black bear was bulky, but it was still quite agile. Following behind, even in circles, its speed did not decrease at all. However, its roars became increasingly impatient, clearly indicating that it was losing patience and was about to be provoked. Its speed even increased.

Simple ran forward desperately, with the black bear chasing after it. Enraged, the bear put down its front paws, landed on all fours, and darted away like a slingshot.

Fortunately, Jian Dan didn't run in a straight line. It circled around trees, turning every two or three trees, forcing the black bear to brake suddenly. In doing so, it tripped over itself and tumbled several times.

The enraged roar was deafening, but the effects of the drug gradually took hold. After swaying for a distance, it still wobbled before crashing to the ground.

Jian Dan quickly packed up, tidied her messy clothes and hair, and then walked out.

With Cheng Chao there, she didn't dare to go too far. She would go out for a while, then come back and wander around to let the people who stayed behind see that she was safe before going off to have some fun.

Before she could even explore the entire room, Cheng Chao emerged, looking pale and with a hoarse voice.

"Are you hungry? I'll go hunt you a wild pheasant,"

He glanced at the sky briefly. They went in in the afternoon and came out once in the evening to arrange for someone to guard them. Now it was the afternoon of the second day. Was he asking this seriously?

"Brother, are you alright? Um, what do you want to eat? I'm fine, should I go get it?"

Cheng Chao shook his head.

ā€œI’m not hungry,ā€

Judging from her complexion, the redness and dark circles under her eyes, it's easy to imagine that something serious is going on.

"I doubt she can be of much help," she whispered, pulling Cheng Chao aside.

"Brother, how much longer?"

Cheng Chao glanced back, looking somewhat dejected, with anger hidden in his eyes.

"It will take at least three days."

If it's only for a day or two, it's not impossible to persevere. But for such a long time, no one can go without food or water.

I didn't bring a basket with me when I came out; I only had a small shoulder bag to cover it up, and I couldn't take out much stuff.

After looking around twice, I suddenly became excited.

"Huh? I remember now, brother, come with me,"

They pulled and dragged Cheng Chao to a place about three or four hundred meters away. Cheng Chao was somewhat absent-minded.

"What's wrong? What's the matter?"

"Brother, look!"

When Jian Dan returned, she saw a wild pear tree with quite a few fruits on it. Since it was so close, she didn't touch any. This was a good opportunity to give Cheng Chao something to do.

"Brother, let's pick this and share it with everyone to quench their thirst. Nobody can stand going without food or water for so long."
