Cheng Chao glanced at it, then looked away.
What's going on?
“I came out after hearing the noise. When I came out, I saw him throw this woman over. I could only reach out and catch her. As soon as I put her down, he came at me, so I punched him.”
"We'll have to ask this comrade about the previous situation,"
Clearly, Lao Qin and the people behind him couldn't understand her punch. How hard could a little girl's fist be, looking so delicate and soft?
Cheng Chao didn't care whether others believed it or not; he only needed to know for himself.
The flight attendant rushed over with a first-aid kit. The girl with the student-style haircut, who had been leaning against the carriage, finally regained consciousness and overheard Jian Dan's words. She struggled to sit up.
"I, cough cough, comrade, let me speak, let me say it."
The flight attendant helped her into the carriage and bandaged her injured arm and neck. She recounted what had happened in fits and starts.
"We were sent-down youth to work in the countryside in Northeast China. My name is Bai Xiaoqin, and my companion is Chen Ruonan."
Cough cough!
We went to the restroom, and when we came out, we ran into this guy. Chen Ruonan bumped into him, and he tried to grab her, but Chen Ruonan pushed me out and said to him,
Her gaze shifted to Jian Dan, almost unable to meet his eyes. Her face flushed. Although it wasn't her doing, she still knew the most basic principles of propriety and shame, and she found herself unable to utter these words.
She said there were other people in our carriage, and they were rich and good-looking.
Cheng Chao's face immediately darkened, and he became like a leopard poised to pounce, his fists clenched so tightly you could hear the bones cracking.
Where is that person?
The student shuddered, lowered his head, and dared not look at Cheng Chao, his expression also showing some dejection and sadness.
"She pushed me out and then ran away."
The group of grown men looked at each other, all of them valuing relationships where they could rely on each other. But then this guy showed up and betrayed them right to their faces. If this kind of person were on the battlefield, he would definitely be a traitor.
"Hey? Is your companion the one with two big braids?" Suddenly, one of the flight attendants remembered that a female colleague had gone into the restroom earlier.
Bai Xiaoqin thought for a moment.
"Yes, she wore two braids,"
The flight attendant clapped her hands.
"Brother Qin, didn't I say there was someone who was so scared that he hid in the toilet and hasn't come out yet?"
"Is that her?"
"Tsk, maybe it really is. Wouldn't that be considered murder, Brother Qin?"
Bai Xiaoqin took a breath and continued,
"He took out a knife and forced me to take him to our carriage. He said he only liked money and wanted to make money. I refused, so he slashed my neck and then dragged me forward by the hair."
Bai Xiaoqin's hair was indeed a mess, like a bird's nest, with blood droplets in some places. It was obvious that the scalp was the most directly damaged by the rough dragging.
Bai Xiaoqin had obviously thought of this as well. She stretched out her uninjured right hand and gently touched the top of her head, making a series of hissing sounds of pain. Just listening to this, Jian Dan felt her scalp tingle.
"Then I walked over here, and this comrade came out, probably to save me. But he just threw me out. If this comrade hadn't caught me and given me a buffer, all the bones in my body might have been broken."
The two accounts were identical, and the two phases flowed seamlessly together. Old Qin glanced at Cheng Chao, then at the little girl Cheng Chao was protecting to the side; neither seemed inclined to speak. He sighed.
"Comrade Bai, where are you going to go to the countryside, and at which stop will you get off?"
Bai Xiaoqin reached into her pants pocket with her right hand, pulled out a train ticket, and handed it to Lao Qin.
Old Qin squinted his eyes.
"Anji, Anji? Hey? Old Cheng, isn't this... going the same way as you?"
"Comrade Bai, are you also sent to Anji County for rural work?" Jian Dan peeked out from the side.
"Yes, I was forced to take someone else's place to go to the countryside. They also arranged this sleeper train ticket. Chen Ruonan came to keep an eye on me, afraid that I would ask someone else for help halfway, or go and complain."
I was momentarily stunned. I'd read about this kind of thing in history books and seen it in novels, but this was the first time I'd encountered it so directly.
Aren't you friends?
Bai Xiaoqin revealed an awkward smile.
"I thought we were friends, but this has immediately brought me to my senses."
Jian Dan couldn't quite explain her feelings towards her. She hadn't followed anyone to harm her; she was a person with a conscience who could distinguish right from wrong; and she had been hurt because of this. Anyway, she didn't feel any aversion towards her for the time being.
The two girls quickly hit it off.
The others also got out of the carriage. Lao Qin arranged for people to search for Chen Ruonan, but Cheng Chao refused to leave.
Old Qin also felt somewhat guilty.
"Look at the mess this has made, someone got hurt. It's all thanks to the girl, otherwise who knows what might have happened?"
"Wow, this girl is amazing! She managed to send that 100-pound man flying that far!"
At this point, Cheng Chao's expression softened considerably, tinged with a subtle hint of pride.
"Yes, my sister is strong."
Old Qin wasn't in the mood for long pleasantries; the aftermath of this matter still needed to be handled properly.
"Alright, you go back and keep your sister company. I have to go back. Now that we've caught the person, I need to hurry back and make arrangements. Also, these two wounded soldiers need to be treated properly. Oh, my head is spinning."
Before leaving, he gave some more instructions.
