Chapter 373 Another new educated youth has arrived?

Cheng Chao didn't think much of it.

"They're probably just tired. They didn't sleep well last night. If they're tired, let's rest for a bit."

"Not tired at all, brother. Look at the educated youth office over there, why are there so many people?"

The autumn breeze is just right now, neither too hot nor too cold, and I think it's quite nice.

Cheng Chao glanced at it and then turned his head away.

"It must be another new educated youth arriving. Isn't that woman on the bus also a new educated youth?"

"Too."

They hadn't walked far when Jian Dan stopped, grabbed Cheng Chao, and looked delighted.

"Brother, look, isn't that Master Liu the Third?"

"Hmm? Oh dear, you're right, you're right, we're really lucky,"

Cheng Chao himself didn't care; the journey was nothing, but Jian Dan wouldn't have to suffer along.

Jian Dan has already run over there.

"Third Master, Third Master, what brings you here?"

The old man also looked pleasantly surprised.

"You're back? Tiger said he missed Xin Xin yesterday. Hey, where's that child? Why hasn't she come back?"

Cheng Chao also came over carrying his things, nodding in greeting.

"Third Master, what's wrong?"

After glancing around at the row of several oxcarts, he asked, "Are they here to pick up the new educated youth?"

"That's for sure,"

Upon hearing this, Old Master Liu's smile vanished.

"You know, in previous years we could at least get people to come when things weren't too busy, but this year is different. Several people came before the autumn harvest, and not only do they not know how to do anything, they also cry and whine all the time."

It's only been a little over a month, and it's harvest time, yet I'm being asked to come out and pick up people again. I got up really early, thinking that if I picked them up, I could go back home early and work for a while.

Look at the time! It's almost noon, and everyone's still not here.

"Stop talking, get on the bus first. It'll be crowded again if more people come and put their things in later."

Just then, people carrying large and small bags came over from the educated youth office. The two quickly sat down, and Jian Dan kept talking.

"Third Uncle, how many people were assigned to our village this time?"

"Wei Min didn't say anything, he just said that he would accept whatever Secretary Lin gave him, since things are already like this, so it doesn't matter if it's a few more."

"Oh, Third Master, what are you worried about? What if we get a few strong and healthy male educated youths this time?"

"Liujiatun, where is Liujiatun?"

Third Master Liu quickly replied,

"Here it is! Here it is!"

She simply sat to the side, swinging her legs without paying attention, and even turned her head to talk to Cheng Chao.

"Huh? Easy?"

"Huh?" Simple turned around, puzzled.

"Huh?"

Isn't this Bai Xiaoqin, who we just broke up with not long ago?

"You were sent to Liujiatun as part of the rural work program?"

In this unfamiliar place, seeing someone she knew relatively well who had saved her made Bai Xiaoqin very happy. She immediately felt more at ease, and her whole being radiated joy.

"Yes, yes, are you also going to Liujiatun?"

Simply sit up straight and point to the other side.

"Put your things up here first, and sit here. You didn't say you were going to Liujiatun. If you had said so earlier, we wouldn't have had to separate."

Bai Xiaoqin was almost laughing until tears streamed down her face. She tossed her things into the car, wiped away her tears, and sat down next to Jian Dan.

"I didn't know either. I just found out at the educated youth office. I thought, I thought..."

"It's alright, it's alright, don't worry too much. The villagers in Liujiatun are all fine, and the educated youth are fine too."

Two male educated youths followed behind Bai Xiaoqin. Seeing her board the oxcart, they couldn't very well not greet her. Looking at Liu Sanye and Cheng Chao at the front of the cart, they wondered which one was the leader.

"Hello, we are educated youth who came to Liujiatun as part of the rural educated youth movement. May I ask your question?"

The old man raised his eyelids and glanced at them. Seeing that they were two boys, he didn't say much, but pointed to the cart floor.

"Put your things in the car. You'll have to wait a while. If you need to buy or pick up something, hurry up. The supply and marketing cooperative and the post office are both over there."

"Wait another hour. What time is it now?"

Cheng Chao raised his hand to look at his watch.

"9:40,"

"Then let's wait until eleven o'clock, and leave when it's eleven o'clock."

The two boys, carrying rather large packages, were overjoyed upon hearing the sound, thanked the man repeatedly, put down their things, and ran over there.

The educated youth from other villages gradually gathered, and some oxcarts had already set off. It was almost eleven o'clock, and Uncle Liu had already fed the old ox grass and turned around to prepare to leave. Two figures slowly walked over from the educated youth office.

One of them was even waving.

"Hey bro, wait a minute,"

The old man turned around and squinted at it for a long time.

"Is that Secretary Lin?"

Cheng Chao had been here for so many years that he probably knew many of the leaders. He glanced up, but his eyes turned cold.

"It's Secretary Lin, and there's another one, an educated youth."

That tone wasn't right. I glanced up at him briefly, then turned to look at him too.

Wow, what a coincidence!

He then turned to look at Bai Xiaoqin beside him.

Sure enough, Bai Xiaoqin's face turned ashen, her fists clenched tightly as she stared at Chen Ruonan walking towards her.

Chen Ruonan stared in shock at Bai Xiaoqin in the car. In the blink of an eye, she saw Jian Dan and Cheng Chao beside her. The color drained from her face instantly, and she could barely lift her feet as she followed behind Secretary Lin.

She could try to coax Bai Xiaoqin with kind words or put some pressure on her family, but why are these two people here too?

She had planned it all out. She had already asked Secretary Lin to only tell the village chief about this matter. She would then send some gifts to build a good relationship with the village chief's family, so she wouldn't have to worry about the village chief telling anyone.

But what is she supposed to do now that things are like this?

Even if she could appease that idiot Bai Xiaoqin, she couldn't say a word to those two. She had offended the woman long ago, and the man's single glance was enough to scare her into not even looking up. What should she do?

"Brother,"

"Secretary Lin,"

After getting out of the car, Liu Sanye also got out to greet him.

"Secretary Lin, is this also an educated youth sent to Liujiatun?"

Chen Ruonan didn't dare to look up. Her hand gripping her luggage tightened, and she trembled. Secretary Lin, he wouldn't, he wouldn't reveal her secret in public, would he?

Secretary Lin glanced back. Was there something he didn't understand?

He gave a barely audible sigh, gesturing for the two to talk aside.

Once they were far away, Chen Ruonan felt the fresh air around her return, and she took deep breaths.

I didn't hear what they said, but when they got back, Secretary Lin nodded to the people in the car, especially Jian Dan, and even smiled before turning around and leaving.

Uncle Liu didn't say anything, but pointed to the empty seats in the car and said something in a neither loud nor soft tone.

"Get in the car!"

I sat down first.

Chen Ruonan nodded as if she had been released, picked up her luggage and got onto the oxcart from another direction. She sat down close to the side, holding on tightly, but she let out a long sigh of relief. Behind her, cold sweat had soaked through her clothes.

With a puzzled look, he glanced at Secretary Lin walking away, then at the silent old man, and then at Chen Ruonan, who was sweating profusely behind him. He nudged Cheng Chao, then leaned closer and silently asked,

"Brother, what happened?"
