Come to think of it, quite some time has passed, and the messages that need to be sent should have been delivered by now.
However, they didn't mention it while they were on the mountain. Was it news they had just received? Or were they plotting something?
Or is it simply about revenge?
However, to be able to climb into the yard without triggering the trap and then quietly pry open the door to enter the house, this person is quite skilled.
Before long, the children discovered that the items did not belong to them and were not hidden well; in fact, their methods were quite crude.
"Sister, this book isn't mine,"
"There's a letter here,"
"Sister, what is this?"
Jian Dan was so angry she almost laughed. What grudge did this person have against her?
A foreign language journal, a telegram, and finally, what is this? A radio station?
"They really think highly of me, using something this heavyweight? Are they trying to kill me with one blow?"
Cheng Rui and his brother had seen this before and knew a little about its importance. Jian Xin hadn't seen it before, but seeing how serious her older siblings were, she knew she couldn't mess around and listened quietly.
Jian Dan never intended to hide this from the child. In her eyes, there were only a few people in the family, and she felt more at ease having the child under her own nose than with someone else.
"Sis, what should we do?"
Cheng Rui and Cheng An both clenched their fists.
"Sister, you tell us, we'll listen to you."
Simple hadn't figured out what to do either; she'd deal with whatever came her way.
"They're in the shadows, we're in the open. They've framed us, and they'll probably be coming to settle scores soon. What do you suggest we do?"
"Sister, let's burn everything first, so they won't find anything?"
Cheng An frowned, glanced at Jian Dan a few times, and a ruthless glint flashed in his eyes.
"Sis, do you know who it is?"
A quick glance at him
"I roughly know. What's your idea?"
"Treat them as they treat you."
After he finished speaking, he looked at Jian Dan anxiously, afraid that Jian Dan would think he was heartless.
"Sis, do you think it's okay?"
Simple and straightforward, he even smiled.
"Sure, of course. If you let others bully you, that's what a coward does."
Cheng An's eyes lit up instantly, and he nodded emphatically.
"Uh-huh!"
That's what they say, but this is something we can't let kids do. It's a bit inappropriate, and we shouldn't hurt their young minds.
"You came up with the idea, so I'll be the one to execute it,"
"Sis, what about me? What about me?"
"You and Xin Xin, pack your things up and check them carefully. Pick out anything that's not good, and then I'll deal with it."
They must have come in a hurry; there were really only three things, which they simply wrapped in paper and quietly slipped out of the backyard.
After returning a while later, he sent the child away.
"Go ahead and shout it out loud. The more people who hear it, the better. I'll be waiting for you at home."
However, be careful, you know?
The three children solemnly accepted the task and ran outside, quickly opening the front door and casually rummaging through the house.
Soon, a lively crowd arrived from the direction of the village. Leading the way was Liu Weimin, who practically ran over. He was startled to see the garden so wide open.
"Oh dear, what's going on here?"
She came out of the house as soon as she heard the sound, her eyes still slightly red.
"Uncle Village Chief, I... I just went up the mountain with my child and we just got back. Look at the state of our home!"
The villagers who were following along all craned their necks to see what was happening.
Actually, there's nothing unusual about the main things. To put it simply, the shelves against the wall are mostly empty cabinets. The cabinets that were built into her room before haven't been used much. They're just used to store a few clothes on the floor of the west room, and everything else is on the shelves.
"Uncle, I don't have anything valuable, but, but, he shouldn't have taken my dad's martyr's certificate. That was the only thing my dad left me."
As the little girl spoke, tears welled up in her eyes. Upon hearing it was a martyr's certificate, the villagers immediately fell silent, then began to murmur amongst themselves—no, they were filled with righteous indignation.
"Village chief, this won't do! When did our village produce someone like this?"
"That was a martyr! Village chief, we must find this heartless man!"
"Yes, yes, a martyr! How dare they insult a martyr like this? It's unbelievable..."
"Oh dear, you can't talk nonsense. She's all alone now, and that's all she has left. It's really pitiful!"
She didn't want their dirty hands to tarnish Jian Liye's medals of honor, but she just wanted to use this opportunity to make a scene. She hated those petty, scheming plots; she'd rather just kill them outright.
"Village chief, the money and stuff were given to me by my brother and uncle. I can do without it, but you absolutely must help me get that certificate back. My dad risked his life for it!"
Although it was all an act, she felt a pang of sadness as she spoke and thought about it. Jian Liye, a martyr, and his lonely daughter—if it weren't for her chance encounter with him, wouldn't anyone have been able to trample on him?
Many villagers are easily moved to tears, especially the older women. After hearing just a few words, some of them immediately started wiping away tears.
Liu Weimin was also furious. Liujiatun may be poor, but when has such a thing ever happened?
They even specifically mentioned the older brother and younger uncle. What does that mean? Don't you understand?
He just couldn't understand it. Now everyone in the village knew she wasn't an orphan, and her relatives were even stationed in the army. How could anyone still dare to make a move on her?
