Chapter 453 Meeting

Go with me?

Cheng Chao immediately thought of his sister's mysterious places.

"no!"

Cheng Jin hadn't thought that far ahead yet.

"What do you mean it won't work? It's so chaotic outside. Are you sure you can trust your sister to go to the county town by herself?"

Besides, those people haven't been seen for so long, and they haven't changed their minds, so who knows? Your sister is just a young girl, aren't you worried?"

Cheng Chao paused. Of course he was worried, but he was even more concerned that his sister's secret would be discovered. Besides, judging by her skills, it seemed that he shouldn't be the one worrying about others.

Their concerns were understandable and normal. In recent years, the situation outside has become increasingly chaotic. Not to mention looting and vandalism, even a young man outside cannot be said to be completely safe, let alone a fair-skinned young girl like Jian Yi.

After Cheng Jin said that, Cheng Chao also started to feel uneasy.

"Little sister, how about I go with you?"

Jian Dan and Cheng Jin rolled their eyes in unison, Cheng Jin being quite blunt.

"How are you going to get there? Are you going to have someone carry you?"

Cheng Chao hesitated, his gaze shifting to the layers of gauze on his body, and he immediately deflated like a punctured balloon.

Oh, I forgot, he's practically a cripple now, and you're still protecting him?

He angrily pounded the bed.

Simply speak up quickly.

"Hey, I haven't even said anything yet, why are you all in such a hurry?"

I'm capable of protecting myself to some extent, but if you're worried, how about having Brother Wu accompany me? He knows the county well, and if anything happens, he can help, right?"

Xiao Wu?

Let alone Xiao Wu, he wouldn't feel comfortable even if Cheng Jin went with him, or if Cheng Chao went alone.

However, he was now a cripple and had no say in the matter. After much hesitation, he reluctantly agreed. After thinking it over, Xiao Wu was the only one who seemed suitable.

Cheng Jin looked at this and that, then coughed.

"Isn't there anyone more suitable?"

He stood ramrod straight, and Cheng Chao vaguely sensed an air of pride and self-importance. He frowned and stared for a few seconds, about to say something, when suddenly his eyes widened, and he raised his only remaining intact arm.

"You're not going to go yourself, are you?"

"Hey, is that not okay? Aren't I much more reliable than this kid?"

Knowing that his younger sister had a secret, he wouldn't trust anyone, no matter who it was, and wished he could personally guard her by his side at all times.

However, if this person was Cheng Jin, he hesitated for a moment. Putting aside the political commissar's identity, he was, after all, his own uncle, so there was no doubt about his trust in him.

However, he still looked up to look at Jian Dan first.

It doesn't matter if it's simple, since she definitely can't just conjure it up out of thin air. If Cheng Jin discovers something, he'll probably cover for her, right?

"Uncle, you're coming with me? That would be wonderful!"

Brother, I forgot to ask you, that little courtyard next to the hospital, has it been empty these past few days?

Cheng Chao's thoughts shifted slightly, and he met her gaze in mid-air.

Then, he nodded slightly and called out towards the door.

"Xiao Wu, the key to the small courtyard next to the hospital."

Despite his inner turmoil, Cheng Chao was still muttering to himself before he fell asleep, reminding himself to be careful about this and that.

Simple wanted to finish quickly, so Cheng Jin, along with a few others, drove away from the camp.

Beyond the garrison's camp, tender green shoots sprouted from the crops along the roadside, creating a thriving scene from afar.

However, none of them were in a good mood, partly because they were worried about Cheng Chao.

You can often see people carrying baskets to dig for wild vegetables by the roadside. Their coarse cloth clothes are faded from washing, with layers upon layers of patches, and they sway as they walk.

There were also some children of all ages following behind, all bouncing along.

Cheng Jin's voice was somewhat heavy.

"Was it like this in your village too?"

"It's alright,"

Jian Dan felt he had adapted quite a bit, but the mental state of these people was clearly worse than even the villagers of Liujiatun, so he couldn't help but sigh.

"When food is scarce, everywhere is pretty much the same; the city is not as good as the countryside."

The closer we got to the county town, the more people there were on the roadside. As the car sped by, we could clearly see two people arguing and fighting over a wild vegetable, eventually even coming to blows.

Cheng Jin, standing behind her, could see everything clearly. Seeing Jian Dan's quiet demeanor, he tentatively asked,

"You can't bear it anymore?"

Simply shake your head gently.

"Not really, I'm not a soft-hearted person, but life is really hard for ordinary people in this world!"

"Yes, everyone is rushing to the city, but who knows that city people are all glamorous and who knows their suffering?"

Simply and unconsciously looking out the window, I thought, "Yes, only the one who knows my suffering."

Upon entering the county town, we were immediately intercepted on the road.

To be precise, it was a crowd that blocked the road.

Two ragged old men were forced to kneel on the ground, surrounded by a group of teenagers. When they arrived, they were still raising their fists and shouting slogans.

Down with capitalism! Down with feudalism, capitalism, and revisionism!

"Down with the reactionaries! They're all paper tigers!"

The slogans were shouted with great enthusiasm, but the group of seven or eight people who were cheering were all quite young.

The people around were clearly on high alert.

Some of the younger ones dared to whisper a few words, and occasionally one or two would cast envious glances, clearly longing for this kind of glamorous scene, but they were quickly suppressed by their parents and elders.

The older folks kept their mouths tightly shut, keeping an eye on their children, either with their eyes or by physically intervening, for fear of provoking these devils again.

The two old people were numb like walking corpses, kneeling when told to kneel and kowtowing when told to kowtow. Their completely mechanical actions drew laughter from them, but it was not challenging at all, and they quickly lost interest.

Soon, someone pulled out an electric clipper, pinned the person down, and placed the clipper on the person without a second thought, regardless of whether the blade left jagged stubble or streaks of blood.

"Haha, big brother, is it good?"

"Hmph, this is what happens when you don't listen."

"Go, drag them back and let them rest for a couple of days. We'll come back when they've recovered. I don't believe you two old fogies can hide those things. Haha, let's go!"

The few people remained silent, standing at the back of the crowd watching quietly. Cheng Jin clenched his fists tightly, almost rushing out several times. Even after the crowd dispersed, the murderous aura emanating from him lingered.

Let's go!

Once back in the car, everyone fell silent. Cheng Jin was on the verge of exploding with rage, his eyes fixed on the direction in which the two elderly people had been dragged away, and the glaring red color along the way.

This kind of chaos is not unusual; each of them has seen it more than once, but each time it brings them a different kind of shock.

He simply sighed.

"When the sun is covered by dark clouds, the day of sunshine will always come."
