"Awoo!"
The little one, stumbling and wobbling, crawled out from under the feet of several dogs, tilting its little head to make its presence known.
"Awoo?!"
I haven't looked at it closely these past two days. It's a three-month-old little thing, still making a babyish voice, with pure gray fur that looks incredibly soft to the touch.
However, it only lasted for a moment before Jian Dan felt tense, as if facing a formidable enemy. At the same time, she heard Cheng Chao's cautious voice in her ear.
"alert!"
When she looked up again, she found herself being protected behind Cheng Chao once more.
Across from them, at the edge of the forest they had just left, stood a large wolf they had only briefly met a few times and had just seen. It was looking down at them from its high perch. What was even more unsettling was that behind the large wolf stood a row of more than a dozen wolves.
With their imposing figures and heads held high, the advantageous terrain placed them unknowingly on the upper level of the confrontation, while the group below remained tense.
The wolves above remained silent, and Cheng Chao and the others below dared not utter a sound either.
For a moment, the only sounds were the chaotic barking of a few dogs and wolf cubs, and the rustling of the cool morning breeze through the branches.
Jian Dan was stunned for a moment. No way, no way?
Is this situation unavoidable?
The wolf pack stood at the edge of the deep mountains, while they, carrying their belongings, had already walked down the hillside. In fact, they were not far away, only a dozen meters away. If they were any closer, they could almost smell the stench of the wolves' breath.
"Awoo!"
The wolf's howl was no longer as aggressive as before; it was just a low growl, its hooves kicking at the pebbles on the ground. The people below immediately tensed up and raised their weapons.
However, Jian Dan was a little puzzled. She looked at the father, who had his child in their hands but was not worried. Instead, he had the leisure to scare people. It didn't look like a war was about to break out.
She vaguely sensed that there was still disdain in the wolf's eyes. Thinking about it, her fear lessened considerably, and her strong will returned.
You big wolf, why do you look down on me?
"What are you yelling about? We didn't take your things."
So what if I stayed on your turf for a short while?
"We're taking human things, not yours, so why are you following us?"
Cheng Chao stumbled in fright, staring blankly as his sister stood with her hands on her hips, yelling loudly at the wolf opposite them. Realizing what was happening, he quickly rushed over and covered her mouth.
"Girl, are you crazy? That's a wolf!"
He was getting a little carried away with his cursing when he suddenly remembered the first time he saved Lin Jianshe right under the wolf's nose, how he was chased and ambushed by the wolf yesterday, and the wild boar that had just been torn to pieces. Suddenly, his stomach started churning.
To everyone's astonishment, he simply covered his mouth, then suddenly bent over and vomited violently.
Cheng Chao was stunned, everyone else was stunned, even the dogs around him were stunned, and the little wolf cub tilted its head and let out a "woof" to express its confusion. What's wrong with this human?
Even the large wolf opposite him was stunned for a moment and took two steps back.
"Awoo?"
Were they terrified?
Before noon, Cheng Chao led his men down the mountain, carrying sacks and looking blank. Behind them were four auspicious animals wagging their tails, with a mischievous little wolf perched on their heads.
In the middle was a simple feeling of utter despair; just thinking about her embarrassing moment made her want to disappear into a crack in the ground.
It was a truly unexpected incident, and she genuinely lost control of herself.
Further behind, in the distance, lay more than a dozen leisurely wolves.
The wolf pack followed the wolves all the way to the outer perimeter. Looking down, they could clearly see villagers digging for wild vegetables on the hillside in another direction. Only then did they stop and hide themselves in the shade of the trees.
After walking a considerable distance, Cheng Chao and the others exchanged glances, realizing that the sense of being watched behind them had disappeared. Using a large tree around the bend as a guide, they looked back.
"I'm not following anymore, the wolf didn't come out."
The group breathed a sigh of relief.
They are certainly capable of fighting, but once they start, casualties are inevitable, a situation none of them want to see.
"Hurry up, the car's at the usual spot,"
Looking at the shadowy figure standing tall and proud on the edge of the woods, and then at her listless sister not far away, and the little wolf cub hopping around at her feet, Cheng Chao felt somewhat uncertain.
What's going on here?
They went to the wolves' territory to look for something, but they were discovered. However, instead of fighting the wolves, they were escorted back.
His sister even brought the wolf cub back?
Most importantly, he seemed quite unhappy about it.
Can he really go back with peace of mind?
He always had a surreal feeling, wondering if a wolf would suddenly jump into his sister's yard, and his sister would crawl out of bed and start yelling at the wolf.
Thinking about it, I could actually visualize it.
He quickly shook his head, banishing the strange thought from his mind.
"Hurry up, hurry up, we need to get back and get busy."
He was also worried, but in this situation, no matter how worried he was, he had to go back and take care of this matter first, as it was no small thing.
Before leaving, he repeatedly gave instructions.
"You're not allowed to go up the mountain anymore, do you hear me?"
No one can understand a wolf's thoughts. After all, it is a wild beast, and its moods are unpredictable. This time it was kind, but who knows what will happen next time? Can you guarantee that it will be like this again next time?
You absolutely mustn't be careless, you know? Don't underestimate it just because you're skilled. Let me tell you, wolves are different from wild boars. They hold grudges and are notoriously vengeful. If you kill one wolf, a whole pack of wolves might come after you for revenge, and it won't end in a fight to the death.
"Sister, you can't do anything rash!"
Jian Dan's face darkened. He had encountered a wolf and escaped unscathed, so why was he still so worried?
"Brother, I'm not a child anymore, I'm not so young that I don't understand this little thing."
"I do care about my life, don't worry. I know that wolf. I'm not familiar with it at all. We've only bumped into each other a few times and are just vaguely acquainted. I don't even know it, so I wouldn't have any designs on it."
Cheng Chao's fatherly instincts prevailed, and his trust in her was already teetering on the edge.
"Remember this: you are not allowed to go up the mountain, especially not deep into the mountains."
Sister, you have to think about us. What am I supposed to do if something really happens to you?
There are only a few of us in our family, we depend on each other for survival, so you must live well.
I simply wanted to cover my face and run away.
"Stop, brother, the way you're talking makes it sound like I'm going to be gone tomorrow."
Cheng Chao immediately jumped up and down.
"Pah, pah, pah! Don't talk nonsense! How can you say such things so casually?"
However, the interruption made him relax a bit.
"Alright, remember what you promised, keep your word. I'll come over to check in a couple of days."
