Chapter 570 Restlessness

With a newfound confidence, Liu Weimin broadened his perspective considerably and became less resistant to educated youth. His smiles also became more genuine.

The oxcart that was supposed to pick up the educated youth hadn't returned yet; instead, two bicycles and three men who looked like cadres arrived at the village entrance first.

After showing Liu Weimin the letter of introduction, he swaggered over and insisted on visiting the village office, the educated youth compound, the tractor, and finally, he even wanted to see the cowshed.

Liu Weimin's brows were so furrowed they could trap a mosquito, but he had no choice but to cooperate.

After circling the village and then the cowshed, Liu Weimin saw the man off, completely bewildered.

He was still scratching his head, puzzled, as he watched the bicycle leave from the village entrance.

"Old Han, do you figure out what they're trying to do?"

"I don't know, but he doesn't look like a good person. The one with glasses, his eyes are suspicious, you can't tell where he is."

Xiao Jian peeked into the yard several times, and he wasn't still in the cowshed either, rummaging around and looking everywhere.

He was staring at it for a long time after we changed shifts.

He even joked as he spoke.

"They have a letter of introduction. Otherwise, I would have thought they were just here to scout the place. They don't look like decent people at all."

Liu Weimin paused for a moment, not because he was overthinking it, but because the village's current situation couldn't afford to have any mishaps.

At noon, as the villagers finished their work, smoke rose from the village chimneys.

The day's work in the cowshed had ended, and the few people who returned noticed that things had been moved, though not obviously.

Cheng Jia sat on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) to catch his breath, and then reached out to touch the corner of the wall next to him. As soon as he touched it, his hand stopped.

In the evening, during the routine gathering at the educated youth compound, Jian Dan felt a little uneasy, but she didn't think much of it, assuming it was just because she was tired.

She had only gone halfway when she heard a commotion outside. Her heart skipped a beat, and she dropped her chopsticks without noticing as she got up and ran outside.

"Huh?"

Tan Yajun and Mingzhu on both sides were stunned for a moment, but Lin Dongfang on Mingzhu's other side suddenly remembered something, handed his son to Mingzhu, and ran out as well.

It was already getting dark outside. As soon as I stepped out of the courtyard, I could see people running towards the village entrance. It was noisy, and I couldn't make out what they were saying.

Jian Dan ran out the door and ran off. Ling Weidong entered the courtyard, and the two just brushed past each other. However, they ran into Lin Dongfang, who was a step slower, and Jian Dan whispered something to him.

"Something happened at the cowshed. Someone sneaked in, apparently looking for something, but was caught red-handed and has already been attacked with a knife."

Lin Dongfang's brow twitched, and he quickened his pace.

There were only three adults and one child in the cowshed, yet they actually started fighting. He had a vague idea in his mind who was behind it, and he felt even more uneasy.

In the cowshed, two men were locked in combat with a figure whose movements were noticeably slow. Seeing that the villagers were gathering around, they became anxious. They had originally wanted to finish the fight quickly while no one was around, but they never expected the commotion to escalate. If they didn't leave now, they would really be stuck.

In his anxiety, his movements became somewhat chaotic. The shorter man, enraged, pulled out a knife and stabbed forward recklessly, ignoring the taller man's attempts to stop him.

"Hey? What are you doing? Are you crazy?"

Seeing blood, even the short man got a little excited, and a flicker of excitement appeared in his eyes.

"Hurry up, this guy is really tough. I'll deal with him. If we dawdle any longer, everyone will be here."

Go check right away, have you found the item?

The tall man hesitated for a second, then decisively turned around and went back into the cowshed.

The short man pulled out his knife and, without pausing, plunged it into the person in front of him again.

There was no light, and the militiamen who surrounded them were holding homemade guns. They could only see two people entangled together, and they dared not fire.

As the militiamen lit their torches, Jian Dan arrived and saw a man grinning maliciously, holding a blood-stained knife, stabbing at Cheng Jia, who was covered in blood.

Cheng Jia had no strength, but the things from the past few years were ingrained in her bones, and she held on tightly to the person, refusing to let go.

Jian Dan's murderous aura suddenly became somewhat out of control, and she rushed forward without stopping. Lin Dongfang and Ling Weidong, who arrived a few steps later, followed closely behind and were somewhat worried when they saw her state.

"broken!"

With one kick, the man and the knife in his hand flew several meters away. Simple but not enough, before the militiaman's gun could be turned around, he followed up with a barrage of punches and kicks, not even noticing the blood seeping from his fists.

Turning back, Lin Dongfang and the other man had already helped Cheng Jia up and sat her down next to Ling Weidong. Then Lin Dongfang got up and looked around for Lao Mu. At this point, he didn't care about being exposed or not; lives were at stake.

The commotion outside was quite loud, and the people inside noticed something was wrong. They rushed out, muttering to themselves.

"That's enough. Don't actually kill him. It'll be hard for us to explain when we get back."

He was met with a kick that sent him flying backward. Lin Dongfang, with his sharp eyes, dodged to the side and slipped into the cowshed through the gap.

Simple's eyes lit up, but there was also a hint of barely perceptible grievance in them.

"Brother, you're back."

The one who made the move was Cheng Chao, who had just entered the village. He never imagined that when he returned, covered in dust, he would see a scene that would almost take his breath away.

The tall man was thrown so hard he vomited blood. Now, Cheng Chao didn't need to lift a finger; Lao Han and his men subdued him. If that wasn't enough, he might not even survive.

Soon, Lin Dongfang dragged the old man, who had just been roused, out in a hurry.

"Quick, look at him."

Cheng Chao didn't move, but his whole being exuded an unapproachable, chilling aura, with both fists clenched tightly.
