Chapter 576 Finding a Way Out

Cheng Jin was almost laughing in exasperation at her.

"Don't you have any normal understanding of the food your family eats?"

Other families might not eat meat more than twice a year, but you go two days a year without it. Tell me, with your family's meager livelihood, who wouldn't be envious? Let alone the kids, just thinking about it makes me green with envy.

Simple, your sarcastic tone is making her feel embarrassed.

However, it's clear that this matter has been approved.

"Hehe, Uncle, you can't blame me. There are so many good things in the mountains, mostly meat. They're right there, and we can't even eat them. I just couldn't resist."

Besides, I'm still growing. If I don't eat well, what strength will I have to fight off a wild boar or something if I encounter one again?

"Fine, fine, you're always right,"

Cheng Jin didn't intend to offer any advice. After several years of working in the countryside, this child wasn't someone who lacked sense of propriety.

He knew very well that people were living much happier lives before he met them. It was only after he became familiar with them and recognized them that so many troubles arose.

That evening, Cheng An woke up and was overjoyed to hear that he could go to Jian Dan's place to recuperate, and that Cheng Rui could also rest there. Both children were so happy that they couldn't wait to leave.

Cheng An's injury wasn't just on his arm; he also had one on his left ribs, where the bone was exposed and he almost fractured it. It would take time to heal, and it was unlikely he would be able to move around for a while.

Seeing this, Jian Dan didn't linger. She left a few pounds of meat in the basket, which she could use as an excuse that it was meat distributed by the village. If she took anything else, she would need to find another excuse. She couldn't possibly know in advance what would happen and always bring out something that was so suitable, could she?

With Cheng Jin taking care of things here, and the main force still out on training and not back yet, she wasn't worried. The weather was a bit chilly, which was quite suitable for wound healing.

Cheng Jin agreed to let them come, but he wasn't in a hurry, and it took about a week before the package arrived.

By now, the fire in Jian Dan's house was already lit, and Cheng An, who had been brought over, had recovered considerably; he could walk with small steps without any problems.

This time, Cheng Jin personally delivered the gifts, not only clothes for the two children, but also a whole bunch of things he bought in the county town: grain, meat, snacks—he probably bought everything he could think of, and left behind a pile of money and coupons, clearly afraid that he was going to give too much money to the children.

Jian Dan didn't stand on ceremony and accepted everything without hesitation. It wasn't a question of whether it was enough or how much. If he didn't accept it, Cheng Jin would probably feel guilty again.

It's not officially winter yet, and the first snow hasn't fallen here. Jian Dan hasn't been idle either. She took Cheng Rui to the mountains a few more times. They didn't go deep into the mountains, but just wandered around the stream, fulfilling the child's wish to catch fish for his younger brother to nourish his body.

On her way back, she ran into Liu Weimin loitering in front of her house. Jian Dan was a little confused. He had stopped working, so what could he want with her?

"Uncle, what's wrong? Is something happened at the greenhouse?"

This is the only excuse that Jian Dan can think of. She is so low-key that other things have nothing to do with her.

This question caught Liu Weimin off guard. He did have something on his mind, and it wasn't a small matter. He had been thinking about it for days and couldn't figure it out. That's why he ended up here.

Seeing him staring at the fish in their hands, Cheng Rui tensed up for a moment, and the hand holding the fish involuntarily pulled back slightly.

In these mountains, everyone generally agrees that the little ones can take whatever they want back to eat. These days, eating meat is a rare treat, so there's usually no big fuss about it. To be honest, even Liu Weimin was a little surprised to see so many fish.

"You can catch fish in the mountains? Is it that little river halfway up the mountain?"

Jian Dan wasn't surprised; he knew the area too. After all, the person in question was a native local. It was understandable that the deep mountains were dangerous, but it was normal for him to be familiar with the surrounding area.

"Uncle, is it against the rules to catch fish in that area?"

She hadn't heard the villagers mention this either, and Jian Dan didn't really know either. The key point was that, apart from her and her few friends, she genuinely didn't know any villagers had ever come to catch fish.

Liu Weimin shook his head.

"No, that's not it. That stream comes from deep in the mountains, and the current is swift. The fish in it are also very clever. A few years ago, the villagers also tried to catch fish there, but after several attempts, they caught nothing and stopped thinking about it."

"It has to be you! You still have this skill."

It's a bit embarrassing to say, but they've actually eaten a lot of fish there, and have even made it their base.

He chuckled twice.

"Oh, really? We were just lucky. The child was injured, so we thought we'd get him something to eat to help him recover. The fish weren't in a hurry today; they were swimming slowly, which is why we caught them."

"By the way, Uncle, who brought me here?"

"Ah, right," Liu Weimin slapped his forehead.

"There's something I've been thinking about for days, and I was wondering if you could help me make a decision. What do you think?"

The simplicity was suddenly a bit startling, and also gave me a feeling of being flattered.

"Uncle, why are you asking me? What advice could I possibly give?"

She just wanted to live her life quietly and didn't want to get involved in other important matters. Didn't you see that she didn't even want to get involved in that cooperative? She only accepted the salesperson position, which was just a nominal one, when she had no other choice.

Liu Weimin didn't go inside; he just stood in the open space by the front door and started gesturing to her.

"Here's what I'm thinking. Look, this summer, the vegetable sales have stabilized. As for the greenhouse, ever since we started planting, I've had experienced people watching over it. We're almost ready to harvest the first crop after the snow. I was thinking..."

Liu Weimin rubbed his hands helplessly.
