Four dishes, three of which were main courses, made Fang Ping and Sheng Zhiyuan feel rather embarrassed.
Just when we thought that was the end of it, the village chief, who had been told he wasn't home, showed up at our door with someone else, looking anxious.
"Uh, village chief, what's going on here?"
Liu Weimin never expected that when he went to deliver some good news, Secretary Lin would come along.
But since they were already there, Jian Dan quickly realized what was happening.
"Come in, come in quickly, village chief! We were just looking for you!"
It was noon, and Secretary Lin hadn't thought about lunch. Liu Weimin was the same; the villagers usually ate two meals a day and had long forgotten about it.
Upon entering the house, a wave of heat and the irresistible aroma of meat made the two grown men immediately stop eating. Had they caught the culinary rush?
This is not considered polite in this rural area.
Lin Dongfang, who was inside the house, had already spotted it.
"Village Chief, Secretary Lin, come inside and warm up."
Secretary Lin often visits villages, and he remembers several people from Liujiatun, including Lin Dongfang and Jian Dan.
The room reeked of meat, which startled Liu Weimin. He quickly grabbed Jian Dan.
"What are you doing? Weren't we supposed to go to the village office tomorrow?"
Uncle,
To put it simply once again,
"This was just brought back by Jixiang,"
Liu Weimin had heard that simple dogs could bring things back, but this was the first time he had ever seen one.
"Ah, Jixiang, Jixiang brought this back?"
At this point, there's no longer any talk of the dog killing something unclean or containing bacteria. Even if you were to come into contact with it, it wouldn't be handled as cleanly and thoroughly as it would be in a simple case.
"Yes, Uncle, I didn't have time to go up the mountain today either."
Then he asked cautiously,
"Uncle, we'll eat this, is that alright?"
Liu Weimin was already intoxicated by the incense.
"Eat, eat, no problem."
Cheng Rui and Cheng An, who were behind them, covered their mouths and laughed.
In the west room, Secretary Lin and Sheng Zhiyuan met briefly upon entering. Secretary Lin stopped in his tracks, looked at each other, and then looked away.
They looked at each other again, then looked away.
They looked at each other, blinked, and then, realizing something was wrong, looked away.
Thinking it over, I realized something was wrong, and unconsciously shifted my gaze there.
Lin Dongfang, standing beside him, stared blankly as he turned his head. Finally realizing something was amiss, he looked back at Cheng Rui, who was carrying a basin of vegetables and waiting to enter the house, and timidly raised his hand to ask a question.
"Um, Secretary Lin, shall we go inside and sit down?"
Secretary Lin was startled awake. Feeling a little embarrassed, he quickly sat down in the chair Lin Dongfang had pointed to.
"Ah? Oh, oh, oh, I'm so sorry, I got so engrossed in watching."
The food was served, and the group sat down in a circle. After explaining again that the food was indeed the prey brought back by the dog and did not count as food for the people, Secretary Lin reluctantly agreed, even though his stomach had been rumbling from the aroma.
For Northeasterners, the dinner table is the best negotiation forum. Even without drinking, relationships can progress rapidly over a meal. While they may not immediately become brothers, they can certainly become much closer.
No alcohol was prepared for this meal; it's a female educated youth's home, after all, and it's not a good thing to say that way.
Smelling the delicious aroma, they lost their appetite and decided to eat first.
However, there was a bowl of meat, a bowl of mutton soup, a bowl of cabbage, and a bowl of watermelon—all served in bowls. The appetites of these grown men were no joke. After Jian Dan, Zhu Yan, and Mingzhu and her son left the table, the two boys followed suit. The rest was devoured by the group. In the end, there was nothing left, including the soup, vegetables, and dry rations.
Several people were simply clutching their stomachs.
Lin Dongfang, Sheng Zhiyuan, and Liu Weimin all knew that Jian Dan was not lacking in this aspect, so they ate without any burden.
Based on the limited information Fang Ping gathered from his wife and her usual generosity towards their family, he guessed that they were probably quite well-off. Besides, he had personally witnessed the sheep being brought back by that 'dog,' and they had certainly eaten quite a lot.
The only one who couldn't let go was Secretary Lin, who, like the villagers, was also struggling to make ends meet.
But now that I've eaten, I'm reminded of my initial impression of Jian Dan. Oh, wild boar, is this the female educated youth who can hunt wild boar? Well, she certainly doesn't lack meat. I can always save some extra food coupons later. That's how I convinced myself.
After Lin Dongfang led the two children to quickly remove the table, the group began to discuss their business.
Everything had been agreed upon beforehand. Secretary Lin came over simply to confirm this. After the gold nugget fell on his head last time, he felt that this time was not quite real. Liujiatun had been poor for too long, so now all that was accumulating was good stuff.
He can't sleep unless he confirms it himself.
After finishing his business, he turned his gaze to Sheng Zhiyuan, glanced at him briefly, and realized he had forgotten to introduce him.
"This is Secretary Lin from our Xiangyang Commune, and this is Fang Ping, the representative from Beijing for this cooperation."
Finally, there's Sheng Zhiyuan.
"This is, um,"
Actually, she doesn't even know Sheng Zhiyuan's current identity, okay?
He paused for a moment,
"It's Sheng Zhiyuan, the person in charge of the transportation fleet."
In fact, Sheng Zhiyuan's eyes lit up when Secretary Lin was introduced, and when Sheng Zhiyuan was mentioned, Secretary Lin's eyes lit up even more, and he stood up.
"Young... Sheng, Comrade, is it really you?"
Once their identities were confirmed, Sheng Zhiyuan stood up, and the two grown men immediately embraced. They didn't cry, but their eyes were definitely red with emotion.
Having exchanged glances a few times before the meal, they weren't particularly surprised by the scene, but they still stared wide-eyed.
