A group of people quickly climbed up nearby trees and hid. Lin Zhengde and the two hunters' children, Shen Jianguo and Shen Heping, also noticed that something was wrong.
"Commander, this commotion is a bit too loud, isn't it?"
Lin Zhengde frowned as he looked in the direction inside. A few days ago, he encountered a pack of wolves, but there wasn't such a commotion. The ground was trembling, giving the impression that this was a huge creature.
This made Lin Zhengde a little nervous. What was going on this time? Why did he encounter something every time he came in once or twice?
"Watch quietly."
Jian Dan, perched in a tree opposite, stared intently into the depths of the woods, her expression somewhat subtle. "Is this another big one?"
Her gaze inevitably fell on Lin Zhengde on the other side. She wasn't afraid. Even if a bear came, she couldn't beat it, but she could always run away and escape unscathed.
However, it's unclear what Lin Zhengde's intentions are—whether he wants to take this opportunity to practice or seize the time to complete his mission.
Soon, the large item appeared before everyone's eyes, and Shen Jianguo gasped.
"Holy crap! Commander, it's a bear, a blind bear!"
Shen Heping slipped and almost slid down, but Lin Zhengde caught him with a large hand, and Shen Heping cleverly reached out and grabbed a tree branch, thus avoiding falling directly into the bear's mouth.
"Whoosh! Whoosh!"
Sitting on a tree branch, patting his chest, Shen Heping felt a chill on his skull.
"Oh my god, I was so scared! I almost became the bear's food instead of its food."
Shen Jianguo slapped his mentally challenged younger brother on the back of the head in anger.
"Shut up! You can fall off a tree? Have you been wasting the last ten years of your life?"
Shen Heping quickly grabbed the tree branch beside him.
"Brother, brother, I'm your own brother, how could you be so cruel?"
The ground shook more and more violently, snowflakes fell from the trees, and people in the trees coughed from the tremors.
Soon, a burly, dark-skinned figure, easily three meters tall, appeared in everyone's sight. Every step he took seemed to pound on people's hearts, causing the forest to tremble. People in the trees couldn't help but hug the branches around them, their expressions growing increasingly tense, and even their breathing became lighter.
He glanced briefly at the black bear under the tree, then looked up at Lin Zhengde across the way. Seeing that he was just frowning and looking at him, he didn't rush.
"Commander, shall we go down?"
Lin Zhengde looked around, but finally settled on the two young hunters in front of him.
Are you confident?
Shen Jianguo and Shen Heping exchanged a glance, then took a deep breath.
"We can give it a try!"
"Okay, give it a try, but don't overexert yourself; your safety is the most important thing."
Of these new recruits, only these two could barely put up a fight, and Lin Zhengde wanted to see just how far they could go.
Of course, he couldn't just relax like that. He followed the two brothers down the tree, but hid behind the tree and watched the two children fight the black bear.
However, given that it was a black bear over three meters tall, and the two children's hunting skills were still somewhat immature, they never gained the upper hand. Instead, the bear struck their arms several times, and soon, the momentum they had finally built up was completely crushed by the bear.
Seeing this, the people in the nearby trees couldn't stand it any longer and jumped down, weapons in hand, circling around the black bear, ready to strike when the bear wasn't looking.
However, being inexperienced, their blows not only missed vital points but also lacked force, feeling more like tickling than actually irritating the black bear.
The large bear paw slammed heavily onto the tree trunk, and the trunk, as thick as an adult's arm, snapped with a "crack".
The young soldiers surrounding them trembled in fear, then grabbed their sticks and prepared for the next round of combat.
Lin Zhengde was also shocked, but he could also see that they had reached their limit. If they continued to fight, they would suffer more than just these external injuries.
He genuinely wanted to train them, but now wasn't the right time. There were still unpredictable missions waiting for them deep in the mountains; a brief trial would suffice.
Jian Dan could see that too, but this enraged bear was indeed not easy to deal with. She did not dare to underestimate it and did not give the black bear any time to react. She got up and kicked the bear in the chest.
Simple strength is great, and this kick was delivered without holding back; even the bear's enormous size swayed, and it staggered back several steps.
Lin Zhengde seized the opportunity and quickly followed up with his stick, delivering several kicks in succession. Although the impact was much weaker, it was still like adding insult to injury for the black bear, which had just been kicked a few times.
However, being the local tyrant, he rolled over and quickly got back to his feet, but he was thoroughly enraged.
"roar!"
The ground shook again, and the group of people were thrown about.
"roar!"
The group of boys quickly got up and formed a circle, their faces turning serious. Even though they knew they were no match for the others, they did not back down in the slightest.
Lin Zhengde was no longer the carefree man he had been moments before. He held a dagger in one hand and gripped a pistol tightly in the other, his face solemn.
"Be careful, don't engage in direct confrontation,"
He glanced at it out of the corner of his eye, knowing that this was a last resort, since human life was the most important thing.
However, this bear has thick skin and tough flesh. If you can hit it with one blow, that's fine. But if you can't, you'll definitely provoke it. An enraged bear's fighting power will double.
The people behind them weren't simply looking down on them; it's just that they had only been in the army for a few days and were still at the starting point of their growth. They hadn't yet experienced training—or rather, they were currently in the process of training, but the starting point was so high that they were struggling to keep up, which was normal.
