Chapter 621 Blocked at the door, annoyed

After the wild boar incident, Jian Dan did quiet down for a few days, but for some reason, more than a month later, he suddenly faced a counterattack, and there were even more marriage proposals.

With the village affairs settled, all the visitors were strangers, claiming to be from some commune. Jian Dan was going crazy. Although they weren't red-lipped and had black moles, their enthusiasm was overwhelming. After receiving two groups, Jian Dan was starting to feel overwhelmed.

With nowhere to vent her frustration and depression, she could only hide in the mountains after work. Since she couldn't fight anything else, the wild boars on the mountain suffered again, and her space was soon filled with another pile of wild boar carcasses.

Perhaps she was so engrossed in venting that she didn't even notice the splattered blood on her body, and even a few drops got on her fair face. Her face tightened and her expression darkened, which was quite frightening.

At the very least, the people blocking the door were so frightened that their faces turned pale and they didn't dare to say a word. They took several steps back. Seeing this, Jian Dan's anger was finally relieved.

"I've already said I have no intention of getting married. If you come to my door again and say something irrelevant, don't blame me for not giving you ladies any face. Marriage is about the goodwill of two families, and both parties need to agree, right?"

"Your attitude makes it clear you're trying to force me into a sale, using public opinion to coerce me into agreeing. Anyone who didn't know better would think you have a grudge against me, and that you're deliberately trying to take advantage of me because I'm all alone and helpless, hoping to fleece me."

She had already said both kind and harsh words the previous times, but this time there was a familiar face who clearly thought she was an easy target, so she didn't want to give him any more face.

The women exchanged bewildered glances. Something about what she said didn't quite make sense, but when they saw that small face and the blood-soaked machete in her hand, the few red spots on her face only intensified their fear.

"No, no, we meant well. The conditions are really good; they're for city workers."

The conditions were good, but being stared at like that by Jian Dan made him stammer and his words sounded guilty.

The others were similar.

"Yes, yes, I'm a leader here, at home, yes, yes,"

He simply tossed the machete against the wall by the door.

"What does it mean that a leader can disregard the wishes of female comrades and force them to establish a revolutionary relationship with him?"

"No, no, young lady, I'm doing this for your own good. It's not safe for a young girl to be alone. If you get married, you'll have a man in the family, someone to rely on, right?"

"For my own good?"

Simple frowned, feeling a tightness in her chest that threatened to explode. She didn't notice the figures hurrying towards her from the direction of the village, nor did she realize that their voices were getting louder.

"Who are you to me that I need you to do things for me?"

My father was a revolutionary martyr, and my grandfather and maternal grandfather were also progressive people who donated all their family property to support the country's revolutionary construction. They still have commendation certificates from the national government and leaders in Beijing.

My uncle and brother are both soldiers who defend our country and guard the borders.

I am also a proud educated youth sent to the countryside.

My whole family is contributing to the country's development, so in what capacity are you trying to help me?

Was it my father who was sacrificing himself, or my uncle who was in the army?

I have clearly refused many times. I am an educated youth sent to the countryside. Going to the countryside is in response to the national call to contribute my strength to the construction of a new countryside.

I bought a house and settled down as soon as I arrived, which is enough to prove my determination to take root in the countryside and build it up. Now I just want to focus on building the countryside and have no interest in personal matters. What do you mean by this?

Why have you come to bother me time and time again?

If I don't agree, will all sorts of rumors about me start flying around tomorrow?

Is there some dissatisfaction with the policy of sending educated youth to build rural areas, or is the perpetrator deliberately suppressing educated youth to achieve some ulterior motive?

She was furious, and her voice grew louder and louder until it became quite venting. She was really annoyed; she didn't even know who they were talking about, yet they came to her door to act as matchmakers.

They kept nagging and complaining, saying all they wanted was for her own good, but in the end, they just wanted her to marry into the family and serve them.

The group of people who came over at the sound only heard the end of the story, but Jian Dan's pale face was immediately noticeable.

Jian Dan is now considered a celebrity in the village, and the villagers suddenly became somewhat hostile towards the angry glares from the strangers. However, the commune is only so big, and some of them must have seen him before.

Especially for mothers with children of school age.

"Hey, doesn't this person look familiar? I have a strange feeling about him."

"It seems so. I think I saw that woman over there once at my second aunt's brother's house. She seemed to be a matchmaker."

"Oh dear, doesn't Xiao Jian have an uncle and an older brother? They just come to her door like this, aren't they forcing their child?"

"Hey, the other day my sister-in-law wanted me to introduce her to Xiao Jian. My sister-in-law's son is old enough, isn't he? He's a high school student, and I think he and Xiao Jian are a good match, right?"

“That’s true. Xiao Jian is getting old too. When my daughter was this age, the eldest was already three years old.”

"What do you think Xiao Jian is thinking? Those educated youths from the city are the same, they just won't budge. The woman is young, so they can still be picky, but once she's past that age, she'll just be the one being picked over."

Holding her child, Mingzhu squeezed into the crowd. She had heard these words so many times in the village that she was tired of them, and she knew that arguing with them was pointless.

However, she was also startled by Jian Dan's appearance.

"You,"

He glanced around at the people nearby, then swallowed the question he was about to ask.

"Go back and wash up quickly, aren't you uncomfortable all over?"

She simply hummed in agreement and glanced at the people opposite her. They didn't dare say anything more, as the looks they were getting weren't exactly friendly.
