"You regret it?"
With a simple sigh, Qin Qinghuai felt completely dejected.
"Are you regretting it?"
Once things were out in the open, the tone of voice became much more intimate, though it sounded a little aggrieved.
He glanced at him briefly, without hiding anything.
"I was thinking, I'm such a glutton, I'll definitely go to great lengths to get something to eat in the future, so don't complain about the trouble then."
This wasn't exactly a tactful way of putting it, and Qin Qinghuai immediately understood what she meant.
"Of course, there's no reason why getting married should make you suffer."
However, it's not exactly peaceful over there. Let me know what you'd like to eat, and I'll try to find something. Being a man makes things easier for me, after all.
Simple tilted her head and watched him tidy up methodically. She thought he was thin and weak because of his clothes, but she didn't expect that his arms under the sleeves were full of solid muscles. His movements were smooth and his lines were so smooth that Simple could hardly take her eyes off him.
"Tsk tsk, good-looking people are pleasing to the eye even when they're working."
"Bang~ Bang~ Bang,"
These words felt like a thread twitching in the man's heart, making him itch and his face flush.
He flirted with someone without even realizing it, and immediately forgot about it after saying that, turning his attention to the other things he had at home.
“I still have a lot of vegetables in my cellar. I’ll go find a basket to give some to my second aunt, and take the rest with me.”
I was originally thinking of taking some, but since he drove, it's better to take the obvious route so that he won't have to cheat again in the future.
Qin Qinghuai quickly put away what he was carrying and followed behind.
“You say so, I’ll do it. With me here, you won’t have to lift a finger for these chores anymore.”
I glanced at him briefly, and realized he was actually quite kind.
"Alright, the baskets and sacks at home are in the woodshed. See if that's enough. If not, I'll ask the villagers to exchange some."
The two weren't really familiar with each other, but as they spent time together, the atmosphere was starting to resemble that of an old married couple.
After descending into the cellar, Qin Qinghuai saw two shelves almost full and the floor piled high with stock. A hint of surprise flashed in his foxy eyes. This little girl, who said she was lazy and greedy, even a farming family with several laborers might not be able to store so many good things.
Simple stood there, looking on with amusement.
Do you need my help?
Qin Qinghuai's helpless voice came from below.
"You should learn to trust your man. This little job isn't something that should be difficult for me."
Having lived here for several years, Jian Dan is a hoarder. Not to mention the things he has collected in his space, there are quite a lot of good stuff in this cellar. Various vegetables harvested from the garden in the summer, autumn vegetables he has stored, grain distributed recently, wild boar meat distributed, and mountain products he has collected, the two shelves in the cellar are filled to the brim.
She hasn't been hunting in the mountains lately, but she's unsure when they'll be coming. There's plenty of meat left outside, and at this temperature, it should keep well.
The ground is covered with round watermelons, and on the bottom shelf of one side, there is a pile of sweet potato stalks cut into sections. These are the two things that the two children like, and they are easy to grow and quite common.
This cellar was filled to the brim with sacks, baskets, and bamboo crates.
Qin Qinghuai was no stranger to good things, and he was also full of amazement. He thought to himself that even his family in the capital wouldn't have such a large stockpile. This whole cellar, even if no more was added, would be enough to feed one person for more than half a year.
And in the corner basket were bags of snacks: candy, malted milk powder, milk powder, oh, and some cooked food: slightly frozen steamed buns, bean buns, cornbread, steamed cakes, tightly wrapped pancakes, dried vegetables...
There was already a thin layer of dust on the lid, which meant that these were probably simple, untouched dishes. I don't know if they hadn't eaten this much yet, or if they simply didn't like the food.
After thinking for a moment and scanning the area twice, I decided to start tidying up carefully and then hold up the neatly organized items.
They had a lot of stuff, but the simple thing was that they went to Uncle Liu's house to exchange for a few burlap sacks and baskets. They also brought back a laborer along the way. As soon as they entered the house, the laborer took over half of the work from Qin Qinghuai. One of them lifted the load, and the other took it from Qin Qinghuai. The two of them worked much faster.
Mingzhu was a little sad.
"You're leaving already?"
To be honest, although she was also a sent-down youth, she talked more with Jian Dan than with Li Yan and the other sent-down youths.
But now that Li Yan and her husband are gone, and Tan Yajun is married, her focus has shifted to this little child. With Jian Dan gone, she has even fewer people to talk to.
It's simple, yes, but she doesn't think she's the sentimental type, and she's always been independent in her past life, so she feels okay. She's a little reluctant, but not too much.
“I’ll go over there and take a look. It’s not far. We can write letters. They travel back and forth, and I might even be able to come back to see you on my way.”
Mingzhu was truly heartbroken. With Jian Dan gone, besides Lin Dongfang, she had no one else she could trust.
"You make it sound so simple, but it's not as convenient as it is now. You can just step out and come here."
But knowing that this was already a done deal, she stopped saying those hurtful things.
"How's the packing going? I see you have a car, that's convenient. Just pack everything you can use and take it with you. You can just open it and use it right away when you get there. It'll save you a lot of trouble since you're unfamiliar with the area."
He rolled up his sleeves as he spoke.
"And those need to be packed together, I'll help you with that."
He made a brief, perfunctory stop.
"Uh, no need. He said he'll take care of everything."
Mingzhu paused, looking at the simple yet somewhat hungry eyes, and then teased.
